I had high hopes for this place, as there were reviews praising their authenticity, however, I left here feeling quite un-sated. The setting is pretty relaxed. It's open and you get your choice of seating. Our server was very friendly, which was really the only positive of our experience. I ordered the Bistro Medallions, which came with 2 steak medallion wrapped in bacon and seasoned with mushrooms. It was served with a side of chicken alfredo and 2 shrimps. The shrimp was cooked well, but the chicken tasted like the chicken that comes with microwaveable pasta. It had a plastic taste. My sister got their Seafood Special, which included a crab cake with alfredo, seafood ravioli and shrimp. Her crab cake was hot on the outside and room-temperature in the middle and her seafood ravioli was lacking in filling and taste. My boyfriend got the Chicken Marsala Pasta. His chicken was similar to mine in that it did not taste fresh and his pasta was very runny. Overall, it was not a great Italian food experience. Food is mediocre Italian food, but it wasn't too bad. 2 stars just because service was disappointing. Took a little over 45 minutes to get our food, and it was 3 tables including ours. She did not seem busy, hanging around, but appeared to want to talk to the other workers who where busy cooking or rapping up food. Delicious! Clean! Big portions! Tons of options! Home made and made from scratch! I'll start from the beginning. Normally I don't enjoy salad bars because they are low quality and stale, but this one was quite the opposite! The lettuce was fresh and crisp, they had enough vegetable options and amazing house made ranch. I'm pretty sure the croutons were homemade, I could taste the basil. Was very satisfied for only paying 1.99 for the salad. It was just one trip. I got the spaghetti with marinara which was BAKED through an oven with mozzarella on top, tasted amazing. Was almost too much cheese, but I didn't mind it and just took off what I didn't want. The marinara is made in house and was not overly sweet. My fiancé got the Romano pasta dish. He thought it was delectable. The cream sauce was savory and he really enjoyed the capers. The artichokes (and other vegetables) were very fresh and tasty. Being an Italian himself, he gives Marchello's an A for authenticity. Both of our meals came with two piece of garlic bread. Both of our meals were also at least two portions. I am not a restaurant snob nor am I a connoisseur of fine Italian food. My experience at Marchello's today at lunch was abysmal. The service was very disappointing. The wait staff never checked back with me nor did he seem to care. To top it all off they wanted to charge me $2.00 for a to go cup. I asked the owner about it and he wanted to argue with me about the fact that the drink was included in the lunch special so they couldn't give me one to go. My chicken Alfredo was good but tasted like the chicken Alfredo at Pizza Hut. Nothing spectacular. My next Italian experience in Wichita will NOT be at Marchello's. Based on a friends recommendation, this was the spot to hit. This place could be a bit difficult to find with the horrible road construction. The inside had a great smell to it and was filled with people in the booths. There were plenty of tables that were empty. Our waitress was prompt and noticed us immediately. Service wise, it was great but sometimes a bit intrusive. It's better to have a lot of service than no service. I ordered the large portion of Chicken Parm, and a friend ordered the Hero sandwich. For drinks, just tea. The wait time was relatively short. About 10 minutes to be exact. When I get something quick, I am very suspicious if the food was even made fresh, but just reheated. My suspicions were correct. Our waitress brought our food and warned me that the plate was extremely hot. That part she was correct on and on the spot. The negatives - What I got was lukewarm to cold noodles, un-breaded chicken, and barely melted cheese on top. The sauce tasted like it was spoiled and too sour and overly tarty. My bet, since I've worked in the food industry that this was prepared probably not today but a few days ago, and was sitting wrapped up in saran wrap in a refrigerator. Which would explain why it was so cold, but the plate was hot. They probably threw it in a oven which was why the bottom was hot but the top not even hot. The only thing remotely fresh was the garlic bread. This really disappoints me as people rate it highly, but nothing was made fresh. For a 8-9 dollar dish, it should have been all fresh and took a good 20-30 minutes to be made. The noodles were legit and good, but the rest of it was pure disappointment. The Olive Garden produces better food than this. Why would any restaurant resort to lazy tactics? The only positive to this experience, was that the waitress offered me to have the dish remade or at least a different menu item. I kindly declined. She charged me for a small lasagna and took 10% off the order. With drink, I still paid about 8 dollars and some change. The two stars is only 2 because the service was its saving grace. The food.... well I wouldn't eat the Chicken Parm. Stick with the salad and sandwiches. read more

I went with my brother to order a large half pep half jalapeños. I don't know if the pizza was raw or undercooked. After we ate it 30 min later I went to quick trip on 31st and Seneca to go use the bathroom and it was like I had eaten Taco Bell. My stomach did not enjoy the pizza because it was like I had a ticking time bomb. I felt a lot of pain in my stomach like I was going to use the bathroom on myself. Should have I have known when we ordered the bruschetta and the bread was a half cut hoagie roll with a spread of ricotta cheese and mozzarella on top? The tomatoes looked like they were just cut when we ordered, put into the ramekin and added balsamic-no oil, no basil....terrible and sad attempt at this appetizer. Ordered the Lilly and was loaded with sauce and more cheese on top. paid $1.49 for artichokes and there was 1-2 pieces. it was ok. Husband had jumbo ravioli and said it was okay as well. 2 good comments are that the food was hot (ran through a pizza oven) and they had spumoni ice cream. Eggplant rollatini- I can't even really tell you everything that was in this dish but all I know is that it was delicious. The eggplant was flavorful without being soggy and I was surprised by how much I wanted to keep eating the marinara sauce. The cheese that covered and stuffed the eggplant was delicious as well. Definitely my favorite thing we tried. Spinach & artichoke dip- it wasn't bad at all but I've had better. Just kind of a basic dip. They also put marinara sauce on the top of it which was weird but not bad. Served with sliced and toasted focaccia bread. I think I would have preferred a less herby and whiter crustier bread. Pasta salad- I give it a B. Not bad, but not much to write home about (or to write in this review about, bada-bum). Chicken caesar panini- okay first of all, their paninis are definitely not traditional paninis. They are open faced, not grilled, and the bread is a thick bun of focaccia. They put so many vegetables on it (cucumbers even) that it was kind of a salad. I loved the smoked melted Gouda and Caesar dressing but I wish there had been more. I paid a dollar to add bacon but it wasn't freshly cooked, just packaged bacon bits. I was overwhelmed with bread I ended up mostly just eating the toppings off of it. Cannoli- I have no idea if I just don't like cannoli or if they make bad cannoli but we were not a fan of it. The ricotta cheese filling was just too chunky and made me feel like I was eating a cottage cheese stuffed hard taco, it had a very unpleasant texture. We got delivery, we also ordered a side salad and an italian panini but I didn't try that. It was $38 total including tip and delivery fee. Really not a bad deal, and I'll most likely order delivery from them again when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to leave the house. They have nothing on places like Bella Vita or Lucianos but I was surprised with how much I liked it, I didn't expect much. Cool. read more

Wonderful little hole in the wall Italian place! The food is so deliciously Italian that you would expect to find some little old Italian grandma in the kitchen cooking. I dined here recently and from what I see with one of the employees who makes the food to preparing what you order He doesn't care to wear any gloves and was outside smoking or doing whatever came back inside after touching things to go back to food line to make food Pizza what I seen touching toppings to whatever else... To go outside to coming back inside and go directly to preparing food without washing hands doesn't do it for me I find that to be gross! That's how people get sick in the long run. I love this place...one of the few great places to eat in this area of Wichita. We've only dined in once long ago...we usually get this delivered, so I can't speak to the service really. First, their pizza is really good...not crappy chain pizza, but like homemade with fresh toppings. We tend to order the same thing each time because we love them so much...hubby gets the Lily's pasta which I think is to die for, but since I'm not supposed to eat gluten or dairy, I usually get the Lily's salad which is my go-to there. Recently had a gal over to the house and she was ecstatic that we were ordering from there cause she used to work close and missed it. She got a calzone, and man did it look good, too. Delivery is not quick, so plan ahead...usually takes 45-60 minutes during peak hours, but is totally worth it. read more

This restaurant has good food, and reasonable prices. That being said, they are HORRIBLY unprofessional. Thank god it wasn't a first date, because I went with my boyfriend at the time. We ordered and waited while they argued over who should take our table because everyone wanted to go home (they weren't even close to closing, literally had like 3-4 hours before they closed). Then when our food came, it was amazing! The kitchen and chef know what to do and there's no doubt about it. But our waitress took 10 minutes to bring us our food after it was done - she was on her phone and bickering with coworkers while we saw our food sitting on the bar ready to be given out. I ordered a fettuccini carbonara, but what was plopped down in front of me was a platter of overcooked noodles, cream-based "alfredo" sauce and topped with processed packaged bacon bits. This is not a carbonara. I've talked before about the valley between authentic and Americanized versions of cuisine - largely when discussing Italian and Chinese restaurants. But where simplified Chinese food can still be somewhat decent - freshly-cooked meats and veggies aren't difficult in themselves - Americanized Italian food is typically subpar - heavy cream sauces, underseasoned red sauces sitting atop a pile of soggy noodles, a puddle of water pooling on the plate, and way too much cheese. Even in Wichita we have better options. Luciano's, Bella Vita, and Luca are all superior Italian restaurants, and then there are places like Ya Yas and Newport Grill that make their own pastas and would still be a better Italian experience despite not being actual Italian restaurants. The pizzas didn't look all that impressive, but I would suggest them or their sandwiches if you're looking to get a dose of marinara and carbs while avoiding disappointment. read more

Highly disappointing. In from out of town I was craving Italian and there were many good reviews on yelp including "the best Italian food in the entire city of Wichita" and "authentic. Made by real Italians." I tried a classic... Chicken Parm... or at least that's what they called it. What it actually was was pizza topping chicken slices on top of fettuccine (another strange choice) with sauce and cheese. The chicken was actually sliced strips! No bredding no taste no good. Heated in the pizza oven, not fried or pan fried. The "salad bar" which some people were so impressed with was no more than a "make your own side salad" area. Salad bar suggests interesting toppings, unique veggies and mixed salads. Certainly more than the basics that this had. On the plus side. The red sauce and the Italian dressing were both tasty. Both tasted homemade. If this is the best Italian food in Wichita I certainly feel bad for you all who live here. read more
