After taking x-rays, Dr. Gales showed me that I needed two procedures to be done, a root canal and a wisdom tooth extraction. So, as it is my right, we started asking questions about the costs of the procedure and what will be covered. Dr. Gales very quickly gave us some detail about the pricing, but would not give us a definite amount of what the procedures would cost. He also expected me to do both procedures right there and then in the office. This was a problem, because my insurance coverage is very limited and I would have to pay at least $1,500 for the procedures. We decided not to do the procedures that day, as we needed a definite answer on the pricing and the coverage I was entitled to. So we called the insurance company the next day and found out that there was a lot of things that Dr. Gales neglected to tell us, such as the fact that we would be responsible for paying for the anesthesia cost of the procedure. So we called Dr. Gales back to ask him to send a pre-authorization, as the insurance company asked us to request, and he went absolutely ballistic. He told my wife that she "was the problem," because she kept asking him questions about the pricing, which he repeatedly neglected to answer - and then proceeded to tell my wife to find another doctor to complete the procedures. . He also went on tell her that I would have had the procedure done if it wasn't for her. He also badgered her about the fact that we "didn't want to pay," which definitely wasn't the case - we just wanted to know what we were getting ourselves into. Because of his behavior, we now have to pay more for the procedures, because we have to have a new dentist examine me, and he used about $250 of total amount we are allotted yearly by the insurance coverage. Our piece of advice is to definitely call your insurance company to understand your own benefits. Do not leave this up to the doctors! By speaking to the insurance company we found out that we were covered for more than he was stating, and that there is a set list of pricing that needs to be followed!

I hope it's helpful for anyone considering visiting this practice. My family and I had been going to Dr Fleckner for years- his practice merged with Drs Angeles and Morales and then they ultimately took over after he retired. The first time I ever went there my experience was horrible - front desk was great (Fleckner's old staff) but the treatment was terrible- painful and uncomfortable- like the horror stories you hear about "going to the dentist." I switched when we moved. My husband needed some work done so he decided to stay with them until his procedure and subsequent treatment was complete. BAD CHOICE. He needed a root canal and not that those should be pain-free but his pain lasted for weeks so I finally got him to see the new dentist. Turns out the work was "shoddy" - the new dentist remained professional but clearly felt the work was sub-par. New dentist fixed him up and he hasn't been back since. (We still see the new dentist to this day.) This was all around 2006-2007. My parents live a few blocks away so they continued to go to this practice for regular cleanings and things were fine until they needed work done. My mom opted to have a dentist in Manhattan do the work and has been very happy. My father decided to get his work done here. BAD CHOICE. That's a story all on its own but here are highlights: 1. work had to be done twice because it was wrong the first time, dentist was annoyed that my father complained and redid it but in a "temporary" way. Now wants him to pay for full procedure anyway. 2. My dad asked for his records because he wants to switch- they won't release them to him (um... HIPAA violation?!?) unless he pays for the incomplete procedure AND "recommends" more work be done to the tune of $4k. 3. Insurance co called on my fathers behalf to request records and they sent his X-rays and list of paid visits. When he asked for the doc notes to share with new dentist they said no because those notes are "only for the dentist" and "irrelevant." tl;dr: STAY AWAY

Great hours and stupendous staff.

So as usual, they applied the numbing cream in her mouth and gave her the shot before starting the filling. The assistant left dental vacuum in her mouth after the shot. Almost 8-10min into the waiting, the assistant realized that the dental vacuum has been sucking on my daughter's uvula all that time. When she arrived home, her uvula was irritated, Swollen and her throat was hurting. We called the office only to be told to take her to the ER without having any apology rendered to us. we waiting for the next day to call and complain but no one answered. My husband attempted to reach dental office several times on Friday to speak to the doctor but no one replied. Finally, Ashley, the receptionist, answered on Saturday. My husband asked for to speak to the doctor who attended our daughter or someone who is in charge of the office. Ashley informed him that no one is here to address the concerns but SHE can help. Therefore my husband explained her the situation and requested that he will appreciate a call back from the doctors on Monday or Tuesday. Ashley's reply was, "if the doctors feel it is necessary, then she will callback!". THAT ANSWER WAS UNACCEPTABLE, especially if it is concerning about your child and to someone you have been giving business to. My husband then mentioned that if does not hear from the doctor by Monday, he will leave the review of this experience on google and Yelp. To that, Ashley called my husband rude and told him "to do what he needs to done from your end". It is sad that some of these professionals starts to slack in there profession until 'an accident' occurs, so we wanted to speak to the doctor about that, but no one deserves to be told off especially WHEN ONE DESERVE AN APOLOGY (as an patient done wrong to). It was not a charity work, but was paid services and believe you and me, there are a lot of capable businesses out there who would appreciate our business and complaint, if needed to be discuss.
