I was very happy with the room and wish we had more time to spend there. There were some chocolates and jellies waiting for us in the room when we checked in which were delightful! The location of the hotel is very conveniently located with a quick walk to the downtown Lugano area with lots of shops and restaurants. We had breakfast included which was buffet style. The first morning we got there early and had a spot outside to enjoy the view. The breakfast itself was just okay. The second day our group was leaving early so they had arranged for an earlier opening for breakfast but when we got there they were still setting up and did not have all the options available. All said, I would consider staying there again if ever back in the area. I understand there are two parts of the hotel and have heard negative things about the other part so would want to make sure I was in a similar lake facing room in the main hotel building.

Some of the many rooms the hotel must have are close to a quite noisy street. The infrastructure is definitely of a 4 star hotel - especially good and really also state of the art and very spacious is the fitness area. That's probably also one if the reasons why the Swiss national football team (Nati) is also staying in this hotel when they have a match in Italy. The infrastructure of the rest of the hotel is from the 80/90ies but the prices definitely from a todays 4 star hotel. In oder words - a quite good hotel but way too expensive for the outdated infrastructure.

Spectacular, Gorgeous Setting with Two Safety Issues…read more The setting of this hotel, and the huge balcony off our room with gorgeous views of Lake Lugano and the mountains, make me hesitant to raise two safety issues that might deter some. There was only one stairway in case of fire. It's odd that this is allowed in Switzerland of all places, but the layout of the hotel is rather unconventional in that the reception desk is at ground level and then guests take an elevator down a level which is linked to several buildings and you take an elevator up to your room in one of these. The website says that part of the complex is for long-term residents, part a conference center, with part serving as a conventional hotel. Second safety issue was entrance and egress from the tub/shower. A fixed partition meant that you had to step into the sloped bottom at the end of the tub. I braced myself on the nearby sink but I always found my feet slipping slightly on the wet surface as I climbed in and out. This setup should be corrected and grab bars installed. We did have wonderful meals in the hotel restaurant and the breakfast was excellent with (again) those breathtaking views. There is a very nice pool which also has a great setting. Be sure to ask at the desk for the free pass on local busses (bus stop just outside the hotel to center of town), as taxis in Lugano are outrageously expensive (one relatively short ride to a restaurant cost $60 one way!). Would I stay here again? Quite possibly (life has its risks), and it's too bad I have to identify two shortcomings.

Hotel City was outstanding: it was great in all the ways that Swiss hotels are great, and not…read moreflawed in the ways they can be flawed. The hotel itself is clean, modern, and elegant, even if in a slightly Euro way (some of the furniture can remind you of IKEA). The rooms are unusually large. The breakfast is excellent. The WiFi works really well. The staff are friendly and accommodating (the breakfast staff especially so). The public spaces are simple but pleasant (even the staircase was created with an eye for design). The floors are also laid out well. Every floor has a printer, shoe cleaner, and coffee machine (in addition to coffee/tea facilities in the room), which are constantly refilled. Call down for an iron and you'll have one in minutes. That is, this place works just as well for business as leisure. The rooms feature air conditioning. There must be times in the summer when that's really useful. Even during more temperate times, it can help if a room starts to feel stuffy. A/C isn't a given in many European hotels, so it's a feature worth noting. One other noteworthy quality: two blocks north of the hotel is a self-service laundromat [https://www.lavanderiaselfservice.ch/], which is open long hours, has English instructions, and has friendly staff who also speak some English. [Tip: the washers automatically dispense detergent.] It's close enough that you can start off a wash, return to the hotel, eat a 30 min breakfast, walk back over, and your washing will just about be done. The quality of location depends on what you're in town for. It's not next to the waterfront or the pedestrian zones, which are a 10-15 minute walk away. However, it is right next to USI (the main university). Also, if for some reason you can't or don't want to walk, there are several bus lines that depart from a block away in multiple directions that will get you to the pedestrian zone, waterfront, Parco Civico, central bus station, train station, Paradiso, etc. quite promptly, so this location even works for a tourist. What you lose in absolute location you gain in price, facilities, and quality of service. If I had to pick one nit, it's the silly WiFi registration system, which requires an authentication every time you return to the hotel network. If you forget to re-authenticate you aren't connected, which means you could be eating up data on an expensive roaming plan (wonder how I know that...). Without getting all nerdy here, it's not hard to improve the authentication step so that this repeated authentication isn't required, and that would be a clear improvement. But, you know, you're really plumbing the depths when that's all you have to complain about...

The breakfast was a nice selection of food for all types of eaters, coffee was so so. The only complaint is the walls were thin. I could hear the people next door to me so if you are a light sleeper, it may not be the place for you. Parking was right under the hotel and easy in and out during the day if needed.

It may be a bit isolated, but panoramic views typically require such logistics. But that shouldn't matter. There are several restaurant choices inside. The Havana Deck is a great bar/lounge. There are outdoor spaces to dine and relax. A few things to note, you will pay a fairly high price for this experience. It's a 38 Franc cheeseburger. Is the cheeseburger worth 38 Franc's? Also, no, it's good, it's delicious, it's pretty overpriced. As of the writing of this review, 38 Francs is about $48 USD. But breakfast is included in your stay so, assume you would have paid half of that for breakfast and we're back to even. I've stayed at the Parco 4 or 5 times now. I know the secret pathway from the Paradisio train station up to hotel - this is a must to know if you're traveling by train. Otherwise, you have a long, winding walk to the train station. Go down the the lowest level, hand a left out the stairs, and then exit into a cement stairwell. Walk up that short flight, then walk along the cement sidewalk and slippery wet steps until you can see the train station. Do not fail to take this advice. Walking on the street is a 20-minute effort, the path is 3-minutes max. Sometimes in the morning, on a weekday around 7am, when a large number of guests are getting ready for their workday, the shower will slightly fluctuate from the perfect temperature to slightly too hot, then slightly too cold. But the water pressure is amazing, the towels are always fresh and hung right by the shower, and a quick chill is something people have experienced in Switzerland for quite some time.

Very good location. 1 stop from the Lugano Center by bus or train. It comes every 15 minutes, we never waited longer. Also you can have a short walk to the funicular that goes to Mount Salvatore ( for that one you have to pay even with Ticino card). First of all - if you come with big luggage like us - take taxi! One can't rely on public transport because you will have to climb the stairs (approx. 10 floors) and then you come trough the back of hotel were you don't have access without a room key. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived so we went to town and when we came back from the back door we didn't had key and intercom didn't work either. Had to call hotel with a cellphone to open door for us. Rooms are very clean and spacious. We got upgraded to the suit and we had nice panoramic lake of Lugano view. But one can't enjoy patio too much because mosquitos are very brutal there. When we got to our room we had complementary bottle of champagne and greeting card. It was so sweet and welcoming. Our suite room had a complementary coffee and tea. But however water wasn't included. First evening we ran out of water and we went to get water and receptionist sent us to the hotel bar at Cuban place where they sold us Fiji water bottle for 10 francs!! While I discovered later there was a water in mini bar ( inside of the fridge) at the hotel room for half a price. Its funny because when we came to the receptionist the guy ask the same question and she sent both of us to the bar. It kind of disappointed me because 10 franc for water its more than we paid at Michelin Star Restaurant. Also they have water jar in the lobby but only during day time! Next day I just went to refill my bottle there. Hotel has good premises - I enjoyed my time at the pool, sauna and steam room. They also have small gym as well. And few restaurants. cuban bar was very nice with little options for snacks which was perfect because we didn't want to have a big meal that was at main restaurant. Cuban bar has a very nice view of Lugano and great cocktails. We spent there at least 3 evenings enjoying a great view. I highly recommend their salmon gravlax and tartar both were amazing. Also we tried their tasty burgers and they were nice to split it for us. We didn't had breakfast included but last day we were leaving for Milan and decided to take a breakfast which was 35 franc per person. I think it's very expensive for very simple buffet style breakfast. We just had an omelet and coffee each. Another bonus was Ticino card - ASK FOR IT!!! We didn't had to pay for for public transport in Ticino area and we went to Fox town, Lugano center, and funiculars for free! In general - good hotel and decent price with nice pool and restaurants on site. Nice steam room & sauna to relax. And very attentive service. They even left us complementary Swiss dessert day before we check-out to thank us for choosing them. I highly recommend this place and we will definitely consider when we come back!

The hotel is VERY dated, old furniture and fixtures. There were old bodily fluids on the bedspread, the towels had "baked in" dirt on them. When speaking to locals, they said they believe that the hotel is resting on its laurels and it's Michelin starred restaurant. Extra added bonus: they misplaced our car keys, finally finding them after 45 minutes. DO NOT STAY HERE EXPECTING A 5-STAR EXPERIENCE!!! Giving them the benefit, it's at best a 2-star hotel.

We took advantage of the inability to get swiss wine outside the country and ordered a nice 2012 Merlot that had a bit of age but was still clearly a young wine. The squash flowers had a flavor which they lacked earlier in the week at a restaurant in Milan and the duck was just fantastic--perfectly cooked with nice accompaniments. I forgot to snap a picture of dessert so I do not recall it but I know we loved it!
