What a special place. An absolute gem. This hotel is one of the last two original resorts remaining in Cabo. It has a Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez classic 50's vibe with all the modern upgrades and touches. The hospitality is second to none. We were greeted warmly by the front desk staff and handed a lovely welcome beverage. They instantly offered how they can help plan any activity to help make our stay everything we hoped it would be. They check in with us regularly. Property: The private 40-room property is tiered into the mountainside and draped in gorgeous pink bougainvillea. Many of the rooms are accented with brightly colored new hammocks. The maintenance staff is understated, however, they are constantly manicuring every corner of the property - from paint to landscape, to cleaning. It's a beautiful classic that is well maintained. We loved the flexibility and proximity of the beach cabanas, and beach and pool lounge chairs. The pool towels were fresh and the service was prompt. The pool was the perfect temperature and it was fun to mix up our locations each day. The layout of the pool and restaurant made us feel very private - which we loved. Rooms: The rooms were all very spacious, comfortable, well-appointed and had incredible views. The air conditioning worked great! The daily cleaning service always left something special. Food and Beverages: JUST YUM! Every single breakfast and lunch was DELISH. The avo toast, the bagel and lox, the fresh organic salads, the ahi tacos, I mean everything was sooooo good. We were worried one restaurant might feel stale, but we never felt that way on our 5 day stay. The staff was also open to making specialty drinks or even eggs and bacon if you asked. Staff: I mean - AHHH MAZING. The General Manager, Gerarado Vella, checked in with us multiple times and deeply cared about our feedback. We very much enjoyed our conversation with him and really respected his commitment to excellence. The food and beverage crew was just awesome - especially VICTOR!!!! Checked in with us often, always walked out to the sand, offered creative ideas ...and they were just GOOD HUMANS! We felt so spoiled and very grateful. If you have a chance to stay - DO IT!!! Romantic, delicious, beautiful and wonderful.

Sunrise starting while waiting for our shuttle to swim with whale sharks!

What a gem. I wish we could have stayed longer! This hotel offers the best of both worlds. Adults only boutique hotel that has the peace and quiet... but just next door, the larger Grand Velas resort amenities at your disposal. Just beautiful... from the pink lemonade upon arrival, the lush pink flowers overflowing at every turn, to the picturesque walkways and decor, you will feel a sense of tranquility. Encanto is perfection. Breakfast was included and SO worth it. For all times of the day, every dish was delicious. A special mention to Sergio our dinner server- thank you for taking such great care of us- everyone was so hospitable. Thank you so much for an incredible weekend!

A beautiful boutique hotel, with great service as well. My wife and I had an amazing experience here. The rooms were very clean, air conditioned, and the grounds were very well-maintained. And with the hotel being on the beach, it made it very easy to get to the sand from your room. Would definitely stay there again.

late afternoon beach view. SO CLEAN!

I stayed at this hotel via recommendation from a friend. When I tell you this is the best hotel. The service is a 15/10. The employees go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. Everyone is so nice. More importantly the rooms are beautiful and very very clean. The whole resort is beautiful. There's a private beach, hammocks, cabanas, gym and swimming pool. Not to mention the restaurant is AMAZING!!! I've had one of the best vacations of my life and it's due to staying at this hotel. I actually got emotional when I had to leave. I came at the end of April so it was not crowded. I made relationships with the staff and am sad to not see them everyday. This place is a GEM. Hands down. a

This is such a lovely boutique hotel. Quiet, beautiful and serene with a lovely private beach area. Service & food are truly fantastic. Everything we ate and every cocktail we ordered was perfect and fresh. Highly recommend.

We were also offered a complementary popsicle and I opted for the margarita one which was delicious. Once we checked in, we opted for their upgrade which I believe is called Altamar, which means high ocean and for an extra $150/day we get a top suite right in the center and it includes breakfast buffets, daily mini bar refill, and a few other discounts for massages. Our room was literally right under the Hilton sign on the sixth floor. We had a great view of the whole property from our balcony. It's worth it because the buffet is around $40/person. The property is very nice and well maintained. They have a hot tub, infinity hot tub, an adult infinity pool, and a massive pool right in the center. The breakfast buffet in the morning was great. Everything was really good and it tasted authentic. I opted for the Cook to order omelettes or eggs and chilaquiles. The avocado toast was amazing. They have a Rotating item where a cook prepares it for you on the spot. You must get the nachos by the pool. They're great for two people and they were so good. They have a total of three restaurants which we ate at two of them because we really enjoyed the Italian, called Velas. They had live music the nights we went. We also went to Lena on taco Tuesday, which was their Tacos and Margarita Night. The beach is beautiful, very walkable. There is a lifeguard on duty. Beautiful sunsets. All the employees were always working, they were very helpful, and attentive. It was a very relaxing day.

There are 2 hotels - Grand Velas (family-oriented) and Grand Velas Boutique (adults only). We stayed in the Grand Velas since most of the restaurants are located in the main hotel. From the vacation experience agent, Leonila, to our guest experience agent Thamara, to our personal concierge, Tony, this journey was destined for success. We enjoyed working with each person, even prior to our arrival. The car service arranged through the hotel was smooth except for the outer-bands, post-hurricane sudden downpour at the airport. It's weather so what can you do about it? I understand such events are infrequent in Cabo, however. Both drivers were friendly and conversational. The resort is beautiful with curved walkways, 3 outdoor pools, with at least 1 outdoor large jacuzzi, and a tropical landscape. The infinity edge of the adult pool extended its view into the ocean! There is also a Teen Clubroom and a children's play area near the family pools. It is a well-staffed property with pleasant and polite team members at every level. If we happened to lose our way, the staff not only provided directions but took the time to walk with us to our destination!!! Tony, our personal concierge was in constant communication and our go-to for questions and support. He elevated our anniversary celebration by providing us with several personalized surprises! His contributions provided us with great memories! Delightful experience at every restaurant, especially the many fine dining establishments. (Individual restaurant reviews coming soon). The luxury spa (the water journey was very relaxing), a reserved photoshoot (beautiful and professional photos), and wonderful poolside service, including a frozen treat cart and in-pool (literally) cocktail service, were all worth the time. The resort offers a daily schedule of on-resort activities in addition to access to off-resort activities. Two tips: 1) I recommend boxing out a couple of hours for post -water journey relaxation to enjoy the benefits of this detoxing, muscle stimulating, de-stressing experience. 2) plan for 2 appointments for the photoshoot, first for the shoot, a second, to select your photos. I've seen reviews of other all-inclusive properties where guests say after 3 days, they tire of the food choices. You will not have that problem here. Depending on your activity schedule you could easily spend 5 days here and not get bored. Looking forward to returning here as it was at the top of the list for vacation experiences.

They also offered cooking classes, mixology, and wine tasting exclusively at the regular resort. What a getaway! We loved everything about Grand Velas except having to join some areas with kids such as restaurants. They should have an adult only session of each restaurant, and not exclusively for those at the boutique but for those on property who have their kids in kids' club and want to just enjoy one another at dinner. My idea would by like the smoking and non-smoking sections in a restaurant; sure you're not "protected" against kids but you have a greater chance of being separated from them. Besides all the amazing all-inclusive food, my favorite part of each restaurant were the views.

The moment we stepped onto the resort property, I thought it was stunning. The views and decor to the stairs and down to the restaurant are beautiful. We were greeted by several staff members along the way who were very friendly. When we reached the stairs to Alebrije, we were greeted by the lovely hostess Fernanda, who escorted us to our table. The table was on the upper patio just off center looking at the water. There were two acoustic guitarists playing popular music while everyone dined. They were so talented. We really enjoyed their music. We had a team of people attending to us so we were never left waiting for service. Our server Samuel was so pleasant and went over the menu very thoroughly. When we asked about something on the menu, he dove deep into the details of each dish. He was very informative. We brought our own wine and were told it was a $50 corkage fee for each bottle. I've never paid that much anywhere domestic or international travels so it was shocking. Since it was a special occasion and very special wine we brought from the states, we went ahead and opened the bottles. Our sommelier....I found her pleasant enough but she was very persistent about something with our friend and kept pushing him and making side remarks when he said no. If a guest says no to something, she should have let it go but she didn't and kept insisting. Unfortunately that set the tone for an uncomfortable dinner setting for a brief time. We were brought bread under a smoke dome. It was warm and delicious. Following was a small piece of beef tartare over a potato. Tasty. I ordered the Lasagna which was cheesy delicious, it was served in a crock rather than a plate so it stayed nice and hot until finished. My husband went with the catch if the day. Ot was a local fish called Turbolt. He said it was absolutely amazing. Our friends ordered the eggplant Parmesan and the carbonara. They both loved their dishes. We decided to order the table side tiramisu. Wow, what a treat. Edgar pulled together the desert and it was so light and flavorful. What a treat. Edgar did an amazing job. I wish we would have walked over to the bar near the restaurant for a drink after dinner. It looked lovely and looks like a wonderful view of the water. If the weather was nicer, I would request a table near the beautiful lit tree on the lower patio. It looks like a beautiful spot to dine, however, any table is a great spot to dine as far as I could tell. Overall we had a wonderful experience. My husband and I would like to dine again on our next visit.

We stayed 5 nights in a Master Suite with rooftop plunge pool, and overall had an amazing experience. The property itself is BEAUTIFUL. The second you walk in and see the ocean view, you understand why people love this resort. The staff here is honestly one of the biggest reasons I'd come back. Every single person was friendly and helpful. Huge shoutout to Alberto "Tequila," Rooney at Canto Del Mar, Francisco at Sakke, Eddie, Michel, and Ana -- they all made our stay extra special. Food was also surprisingly good for an all-inclusive. Instead of having huge buffets with mediocre food, they focused more on quality. The wood-fired pizza at Pergola was amazing, and the ribeye tacos at lunch were one of my favorite things I ate all trip. If you're debating the Canto Del Mar wine pairing dinner, DO IT. Expensive, yes. Worth it, absolutely. A few small things people should know: The "ocean view" in the casitas felt more like a garden/partial ocean view. The plunge pool rooftop area was huge, but we didn't use it much. The main pools are cold at first. There isn't much within walking distance, so plan on Ubering if you want to explore. But honestly, the positives far outweighed any negatives. The resort felt luxurious, relaxing, romantic, and never overcrowded. We also loved that you didn't have to wake up super early to fight for pool chairs. The positives: The food and service were particularly good; they have a Michelin rated restaurant, Manta, on site, which has a 5 course tasting menu I recommend trying. We actually tried every food option (rooftop bar for dinner, pool bar for apps, Sunken Living Room for breakfast/dinner, The Ledge for breakfast/dinner, Manta for dinner) and found them all to be distinct in their own right but uniformly quite good. Most memorable items were the tofu salad at the Rooftop bar, the rice chips at Manta and the tempura fish tacos. Prices are pretty expensive, similar to CA Bay Area pricing. There are 2 pools and the beach immediately in front of the hotel was very nice (lots of surfers!). Some rooms also included plunge pools! The negative: the only issue we had was the constant loud music - from the pool bar during the day and from the rooftop bar at night. I wore earplugs the entire trip to dull the high decibels. The loudness seemed unnecessary to create fun atmosphere as it was deafening. Nevertheless, we would stay again if we are in the area. Though I strongly prefer the Costa Palmas area of Cabo more. Tip: Thompson is part of World of Hyatt; Globalists receive daily free breakfast that runs to 11:30am, which helped reduced food costs somewhat.

Upon arrival, I was immediately acknowledged for being an Elite member. Elite members have a separate checkin area with special privileges. Cool! Booking with AMEX, I also received additional perks including a room upgrade. We were moved to a panorama view rooom. Shortly after checkin, the bell hop (Juan) escorted us to our room on the 2nd floor. Honestly, the room was a disappointment. While the room might have given a panaromic view at one point, the trees and bushes were so over grown, all I saw was them. Being in Mexcio next to the Sea of Cortez, I wanted to be able to see the ocean. We told Juan that the room was not acceptable. Back to the Elite reception. Soon, they found us another room in another building. This room was better. Up on the 4th floor but not the "panorama" view. We got some views, but the palm trees are pretty tall and blocking views. But this is where we ended up staying. Breakfast brunch was included in our package. The buffet is done pretty well. Lots of options including several fresh cooked choices. The staff was also very helpful during our meals. The hotel is beautiful. Great views of the sea. A ton of different swimming pools, Multiple restaurants and pool service as well. Some challenges... Unfortunately, the hotel is located on the coast where you can't go swimming. The rocks and undertow are extremely dangerous. If you want to swim in the ocean, then you have to a different playa. Or to a different resort that is on a protected coastline. The adult swimming pool with the swim up bar could be great. But the pool is losing a ton of tiles. Ths pool needs to be repaired. The restaurant has a "deli" for soe quick grabs for breakfast. Not sure if they do any other meals but they are open until the evening. They taco restaurant is pretty good, but the hours are very limited. Other restaurants are good with various options and prices. There is nothing that close to this hotel. There is nothing close to the hotel except anothe resort. Other hotels do have attractions that are in walking distance. The JW does allow Uber to pickup right from the front, other hotels do not. We were notified late on the evening that they were doing an Elite welcoming. We were on the way back from the pool at the time the Elite event was stating so we missed that. Be prepared to climb a lot of steps. The hotel is on a hill that falls off to the ocean. Stairs go from the main level down to the pools and restaurants and other attractions. in general, there is no smoking on the property except at a couple of firepits. Overall, this is a great resort to get away and relax. There isn't a lot of excitement going on when we were there in early December. Great service, good food and great views (from some rooms).

Located right on the beach you can either sit right on the beach or on the shaded terrace - which is one level higher and also where the bar is. You can reserve a table via Open Table which makes reservations easy. The service wasn't very friendly. They acted like we were doing them a favor by eating there and our waitress was downright surly! The food was good but weird. Mostly because the menu descriptions did not exactly match what we ordered. For example we ordered the burrata salad and not only did it come with pesto as advertised, but they also put guacamole on it. Weird! We expected it to have both tomatillo salsa and pesto per the menu but not guacamole! Another example was we ordered the salmon tartare which was advertised as having mezcal aoli, tobiko, goat cheese and another sauce. Well when it arrived it is basically a cheese dip like you'd get in the MidWest with tiny (1/8" minced pieces) salmon shavings in the 97% goat cheese covered in a layer of "tobiko" but as someone who eats sushi multiple times a week I can say with pretty high certainty that it was actually the cheaper/smaller/milder masago and not real tobiko - I mean both are fish eggs but I can tell the difference. But fish eggs aside this was NOT a salmon tartare it was a goat cheese dip that consisted of a small 3% of the dish having minced almost microscopic salmon. I mean for a cheese dip it was weird but tasted ok but this dish for sure is NOT a salmon tartare. It's pretty sad my favorite thing I ate here were the sweet potatoes fries that come premade so they are impossible to mess up. Those accompanied the lobster roll that was so over-seasoned and overcooked you couldn't even taste the flavor of the lobster. The second best thing I ate here after the sweet potato fries was the Macho ceviche. That was good - I'd order it again. The grilled artichoke was also overcooked since it was over-charred so I kept getting a burnt taste in my mouth. Overall, the view was great, the service was bad and the food was weird. I won't be coming here again since there are tons of better tasting, better service restaurants in Cabo with just as good of a view.
