We stopped in here on three different occasions during our Mexico City trip, and despite how viral it is there was never a line. The staff was very friendly, prices very reasonable, and order always came out super quick. My favorite things were the rol de guayaba, cafe de olla, and the puerquito de piloncillo. The guava pastry and puerquito were very fresh, soft and not crummy at all. The guava pastry was specifically memorable as it had the most delicious creamy filling in it that tasted like real guava and not overly sweet. The cafe de olla was addicting with the spices being perfectly balanced. It sets the standard for cafe de olla... it's not clear if I'll ever get one as good as the one they make here. This is a must stop during any visit to Mexico City.

I wasn't exactly in the mood for a large breakfast, because I have plans later with someone for the Chinese buffet. I got just two pastries, one concha rellana, and one taco de cajeta. I have had conchas a thousand times before, but this one actually had a filling, and it was quite delicious. The service here this morning was a little dissappointing. There were two young employees, male and female, working behind the counter and neither of them seemed interested in helping me. The female was glued to her cellphone, and the male didn't want to move at all. I had to ask him three times if he could come over and help me. I realize that they are both young, but I would think that this place would be better served with more motivated employees, who actually care about helping customers.

The display case held a variety of cakes and pastries, all beautiful and tempting. Being a tourist with limited time in CDMX I asked Ana Victoria for sightseeing, souvenir buying and eating tips. She provided a wealth of suggestions; my favorite tip from her was the weekend buffet at El Gallo de Oro a cantina/restaurant in the historic center. I look forward to returning to La Vicoca on my next trip and trying more of those luscious baked items and yummy coffee drinks.

This was the best churro- holy smokes.... We leaned into the afternoon churro and hot coco tradition here pretty easily. These churros are crispy and then chewy on the inside. Absolutely fabulous. I did also get a hot chocolate from this stall as well but it was WAY too sweet. I could only take a couple sips and then I had to throw it out. So the plan is- go here for your churros, and then head down to Cafe El Jarocho for their hot chocolate. BAM! You're welcome.
