Dr. Mike is Incredible! First I have to say that each and every employee that works at Maple Vet are great. From the minute that you walk in the door, they are all so kind and genuinely nice! After a hip replacement surgery (at a totally different hospital and surgeon) Josie wound up having to have her rear leg amputated. Dr Mike was always there for her, way more than her actual surgeon. He is the most caring Vet that I have ever met. We have been going there since we moved back to Michigan 11 years ago with our other Golden Retrievers and can't imagine ever having to go anywhere else. I still think they have an awesome staff but I haven't seen Dr. Smith for awhile; not sure if she left/retired. But anyways, the last two times that I took my pup here, haven't been as great of an experience. New vet that I've never seen before, but she was nice. Came here for her normal annual shots: lepto, bordetella, and rabies since they were all due. Had to schedule two separate schedules a week/two apart since she's so tiny and it would be too much for her to get all her shots at once. They allow owners to go inside with their pets now, and that's what I do since my dog gets nervous easily. Previously they would do whatever shots in front of you, but seems like they don't do that anymore? Took her to the back to get her lepto and bordetella. When they brought my dog back to the waiting room they said she was resisting a lot. Which I was surprised, because I've always seen Dr. Smith so professionally and calmly giving my dog her shots. She said she gave the lepto shot closer to to the top back than lower back/leg since she was resisting so much. Bordetella was given at the usual spot apparently. She asked if my dog has any issues or if I have any concern. I said not really, she's just an anxious and a shy pup. Vet recommended medication...... uhm... heck?.... said no it's okay. In my opinion it's normal for a dog to be anxious at times. Not all dogs need to be an extrovert. As long as she's behaving normally. Back home, my dog wasn't feeling right. Trembling a lot and couldn't sit. That can be a symptom of lepto, it's a strong vaccine, I've read up on it. So I thought, she should be fine. Even though the last 4 years she has not reacted like that at all after her shots. Few days went by and she's still having a hard time sitting and laying. Then I noticed her right thigh protruding a lot and I checked underneath her fur and her skin was all purple and the protruded area felt watery underneath her skin. Luckily two days later the swelling went down, but it was weird. Vet said the shot wasn't given on her leg because she was resisting. On our next appointment I told the vet about my concern and she said it was probably from her fighting from them to get away from her shots. Really weird response to be honest. No accountability whatsoever.... did you pull on her legs too much trying to get her to stay still? Did you accidentally poke her with the syringe attempting to give her the shot? It just felt like a salesperson trying to get me to do as much testing and purchasing as possible, if that made sense. Maybe I'm biased and just liked Dr. Smith more but I plan on finding my pup another place/vet to go to. This is just my personal experience and feeling. Dr. Mike is great. And I came here this other time for emergency and this other vet that I've never seen before was amazing and detailed as well. He did awesome at making sure I left with my dog at ease. But I love my lil girl and want her to outlive me. Currently on the hunt for a new place that I could trust fully. read more

Dr Holly was very friendly. Listened to my concerns about my almost 3 year old GSP. Groot has been having issues since he's been a puppy with cold products upon drinking (throws up every time). Previous vet said he has a sensitive stomach and I asked to do bloodwork but was ignored. Dr Holly explained and calmed my concerns and did the bloodwork and stool test (negative). But he also explained what other aggressive steps could be taken and how expensive they would be. He kindly suggested if testing came back negative, we try a new probiotic for Groot and see what happens. All and all I was pleased with MVH although prices seemed slightly higher than my other vet, but hey inflation. read more

For 3 months I took my cat here to see what was wrong with him , and for 3 months they just kept giving me the same medicine and tests only to finally after so much time want to do things differently. I contacted other vets to get a appointment and second opinion and they all told me the same thing, they don't have appointments for a week or longer , and to not even wait that long to take my cat the the urgent care immediately, so if it was that serious why are you guys sending me back and forth pretending to do something when my cat needs help? I moved to Royal Oak recently so needed a new vet. What a nice surprise to find such a good vet and staff. I took in 2 cats, one young, one old for shots and a check up. They called me back within minutes - yay! - and the tech weighed them, got their info and asked what I was there for. After that the vet came in fairly quickly and examined both cats and we discussed what shots I would like for them. No big upsell, no - oh they need this or that, just talked about the cats, any issues, and what care I wanted. Unfortunately my indoor / outdoor cat had fleas so I had to get flea treatment for both cats - an unexpected expense but my fault, not the vets! I really liked the office, the vet and her demeanor and the staff. We'll be back for our followup shots. read more

I'm so happy I found Maple Vet Hospital! I'm a first time dog owner. The vet I initially took her too seemed like they had never met an anxious dog before - the visits were uncomfortable and it was overall a stressful experience. Then I found MVH - they make my anxious pup feel so comfortable and they've been kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. They even trimmed her nails for me (the other vet tried but said they couldn't because she was too scared). AND they send happy birthday messages to your pet . I have never met a Vet like Dr. Mike. This man is one of a kind. The first time we ever took our shepherd there was because a different vet started treating her with some expired medicine so we knew we needed to make a change. Is there a better way to let a dog get to know you than to sit on the ground and let the dog investigate you? I don't know of one. That's what Dr. Mike did. My dogs love this guy. He builds amazing rapport with the dogs and with the humans. He always takes time to talk to you and get to know you and your family. I wish he was closer to us as we are now in Chesterfield. But when the dogs need something, I will gladly drive out to see him. Every tech and receptionist we've encountered throughout the years has been outstanding, caring and simply pleasant people. Amazing Vet and Amazing Staff. My parents Giant Breed Alaskan Malamute was taken care of so professionally it was an unbelievable experience. My parents dog was hurting very bad from leg pain she was crying so badly morning noon and night. We thought it was a sprain or a pulled muscle. They took her to their original vet which they didn't even listen to what my parents told them and took down all the wrong information regarding her leg. There old vet told my parents that everything was normal and there was nothing to worry about, but mean while she had a hard time walking They also told us she was over weight. It was time to get another vets opinion.. Maple did rounds of tests to get answers about her bad pain. My parents dog had bone cancer. We couldn't believe it. This vet took care of her like it was one of their own. They tried to make her comfortable until the time came to put her down. The cancer was spreading. With that being said with her not being able to walk my parents actually did a at home euthanasia. It was one of the hardest things, but the Dr. and Technician that came out to the house Were so professional and so incredibly nice. They took their time and went over the step by step process and gave us all as much time as we wanted to say goodbye. I'm so Thankful my parents found this vet. I am using this vet for my own animals as well. There animal chiropractor services are amazing as well. Never even knew it was a thing until my other parents dog hurt his back running and that helped him out a lot! One more thing I wanted to add my parents and I did contact the other vet after finding out it was bone cancer after they told us she was fine didn't even care they also told us the doctor took an X-ray of the wrong leg. What a great thing to hear! All they wanted was the money. Hard to trust vets this days but we love maple and we are staying! read more

Amazing hospital and absolutely love the helpful staff! Been going to Maple Veterinary Hospital ever since we brought home our Golden Retriever who is now 2 years old. We recently took our Golden on a road trip to Myrtle Beach... didn't realize she would be so anxious during the whole car ride! (panting, shaking etc. for 13 hours straight). As soon as we arrived to our destination, I called Maple Vet and they were so kind to contact the local pharmacy to prescribe some meds for the car ride back to Michigan. If I could give 0 stars I would. I took my kitten and puppy in on 10-31-23 after being told I had to have initial vet visits to establish them as patients to acquire neuter pricing. I did this. On 10-31-23, after the exams, I asked about neuter pricing when I set up December 11th appointments. I was told pricing would be emailed by the front desk staff. Nothing came for several weeks. I called to inquire. Again was told the pricing would be coming. Again nothing. I called on 12-7-23 and was told a tech would call me with pricing. Just this morning (12-8-23) I am called regarding surgery protocols. I again ask for pricing-still no information given. Finally, I get a call and the kitten is over $300 and puppy is over $500. Regardless of if this is standard pricing or not, it's not in my budget for December. The vet tech accuses me of being rude because I'm upset/shocked/blindsided. I was not, but had an elevated voice-no poor language choices at all. Additionally, I took my other cat in on 11-7-23 worried about a urinary issue. I was told he was fine. He wasn't and I no longer have him. Make your own decisions, but this isn't where I will ever go again! read more

Since my cat is semi-feral, unsocialized and amazingly huge, it took me two weeks of unsuccessful attempts to get him into a pet carrier. But even though I repeatedly had to cancel my appointments due to my dilema, the staff completely kind and understanding about it. Found this place when my regular vet was out of town and I had an emergency with my 9 mo puppy. Not only were the vets super friendly and compassionate they also had sensible answers and opinions to every question I had. Later when my puppy's condition took a nosedive, not only did they stay late (on a Friday!) to make sure she was transferred safely to the eVet, they also fielded any questions, and I had a LOT, over the weekend. They've been following up with me daily to make sure my pup is progressing and are here to happily answer my hundreds of questions. After some consideration I've decided to move my pet's care to Maple Vet Hospital. Not that my former vet was bad, this place is just...unbeatable. Recently switched my dog to this vet for a breathing problem her previous vet wouldn't look into. My dog was scared of her old vet & would hide behind my feet & tremble the entire time. Her very first visit to maple veterinary my dog didn't tremble once & actually likes her vet so much she walked up to the vet & nudged her to pet her & asked for a belly rub. The vet instantly knew what my dogs breathing problem was & fixed it no problem. I brought my cat here for the first time a few weeks ago and I was so impressed with the care she received. Dr Smith has gone above and beyond to try to figure out what's wrong with her, even as far as finding and emailing specialists to get their opinion on the matter. Maple Veterinary Hospital, located just off Dequindre near Maple/15 Mile, has been a pleasure to frequent. The staff are all bright and cheery and the offices and waiting room are as clean as can be. While I can't say from personal experience, except in the case of Dr. Smith, I have heard that all the vets here are talented and very likable. I was turned on to Dr. Smith through another dog owner and I must say, I'm thrilled to have her as my veterinarian. The wait to be seen is never very long and once there, the veterinarian is never in a rush to get you in and out the door like others may be. They show affection to your animal and handle it well and know all the tricks to make your dog trust them. When my dog was just a pup, we took him in for a round of vaccinations and Dr. Smith even went so far as to give us an impromptu training lesson, which was phenomenal. We see Dr. Mike Der Kervorkian, all three of our kitties are his patients. I would never dream of taking them anywhere else. We had two very sick kitties last year, and for whatever reason, our normal vet could not see us for several weeks. I tried Maple Vet because I called, and even though we weren't patients with them yet - they took my cat right away, even though they were busy. When we first met Dr. Mike, what struck me was how he was really thinking about how to help our sick kitty (who was really my BEST FRIEND)... really spending the time to discuss all of the symptoms and all of the options. I actually could tell from that first experience that not only is he a very good veterinarian, I could tell that he actually genuinely cared for my cat and cared for me as a pet mother. The differences between past vet appointments with other docs are huge. I have never felt like my pets received any care and I only received a bill. At Maple Vets, my pets get CARE and I am happy that we found them!!!!!!! read more

They have taken such great care of all of our pets for years. Yesterday, Dr. Mike came to our house to help us with the extremely difficult task of having to put our 8.5 yr old dog down. The fact that he came to the house and did it (for no extra charge) meant the world to us. I adopted a puppy in September and this was my first time going through the process of having a new dog and all the responsibilities and little things that go along with having a new puppy. When I adopted my puppy I scheduled an appointment for her to get her next series of vaccinations and to get her in with a good vet. I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Smith. She is such a nice vet. She's very patient and extremely knowledgeable. She made me feel like I could ask her any questions and gave me a lot of time. The vet assistants are also really sweet and helpful. They cut your dogs nails during appointments and that is a really nice touch. My Yorkie has a pinch nerve in his neck, my previous veterinary wanted to charge me for all sorts of services but yet couldn't tell me that my dog had a pinch nerve near the neck even with x-rays!
