Fantastic vet to get your new pet up to date on shots and making sure they're healthy!…read more We've had all three doctors on the sign in the photos posted. Each one is incredibly friendly, loving to our pet, and very knowledgeable. We were here with our black lab a lot every couple weeks to get her up to date on shots. They still Royal Canin food here Only, so please understand that if you need other brands of food, you'll have to go elsewhere. They have a mini pharmacy here that also has heart guard and next guard, some probiotics, and other minor things. Again, major medicine like tramadol, you'll get a script to take to a full pharmacy. From the front desk to the doctors, they treat your pet like their own.

Bella has been seen by all three of the Veterinarians, and they've all provided excellent, warm and supportive medical care. The Veterinary Techs and office staff have been equally wonderful, making our trips to the hospital a pleasant experience. During the past two years, Bella developed a serious health condition. All the personnel we've encountered while pursuing care for this condition, have made the experience as positive and trouble-free as possible, thereby helping to minimize the emotional stress associated with Bella's illness. We'd highly recommend Animal Advocates Veterinary Hospital.

Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital is the only place I will go to for my dog to get the treatment he needs. Each and every time I go here, the staff is kind and welcoming and I am always able to get in the exam room almost immediately. Dr. Socks is an excellent doctor- she explains all of the medicines and diagnosis's very well and is extremely patient with my dog. The other staff are always happy to see us and vice versa. Their patience is wonderful, especially with such an energetic puppy like mine. They are well staffed and I am always satisfied with my service. I can always trust them with my dog and I am assured that he is in good hands here. Not only are the staff attentive and caring, but the veterinary office itself is clean and organized. There are no smells that nauseate you the moment you walk in the door- or pet smells at all!- and everything looks extremely well-kempt. The lobby and exam rooms are nicely decorated and makes for a very home-y feel. The parking and location are also very convenient. I will always bring my pet(s) here no matter what!

Dr. Socks always does a good job explaining the treatment for our dogs as well if there are ever any preventative measures we could take. Such a great trustful place to go!

The front office staff reached…read moreout to let me know when they received the records from my former vet, and were always very professional and friendly. We were welcomed and shown into a room immediately, and our vet tech was wonderful. Our cat is a big old scaredy cat, so we really appreciated how kind and gentle both the vet tech and Dr. Tate were, and that they were even nice enough to wrap our cat in a blanket they misted in calming pheromones. One reason we left our last vet was because they kept trying to sell us on every test and unnecessary thing our cat didn't actually need. So, I was really grateful Dr. Tate did a great exam, told us possible tests (i.e. blood work options) and then let us make our decision without judgement. We're so grateful we found Dr. Tate!

In the annual check-up she detected a heart murmur and "gravely sounds" in my 6 y/o cat's lungs. She said she didn't think there was a need for additional testing, and told me to keep an eye on his respiration rate - count it when he sleeps and call them if gets fast. I did that, and over the next few months called their office on 2 different occasions to report respiration that was just over the "fast" side. The person that answered the phone took the information and I was told there was not a concern. I brought my boy back for annual exam. The night before he had a bad coughing fit. I was told they did an x-ray and that his heart was enlarged and he was in hear failure. I was there over an hour waiting and knew something was wrong. I was sent to Blue Pearl in Southfield - told they had vet cardiologists there. (NEVER go to Blue Pearl - terrible!) Discovered the next day that Veterinary Cardiology Consultants had an office only a few miles north of Troy Vet Hospital! At Blue Pearl they diagnosed my boy with congestive heart failure / hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This was approx. $3,500 visit - after spending about $700 at Troy Animal Hospital. I followed-up with Vet Cardiologist Consultant's for my cat's care. In the following 11 months I've spent another $2,000 - $3,000 on consultations, echocardiograms, fluid aspiration, monthly medications, supplements, holistic care. My boy was in advanced heart failure and died two days ago. I've learned along the way that in that initial annual check-up at Troy Animal Hospital in November 2017 that the heart murmur and gravely sounds detected in his lungs were early & strong indicators of cardio myopathy developing. I wasn't even offered the option of additional diagnostic testing - I would have done it! Instead told she "didn't think it was necessary at this time." If testing had been done and treatment started then he could have lived a long and healthy life with condition management. Instead, his quality of life deteriorated fast - he died at only 8 y/o - and it cost me approx. $7,000 in that 11 months along with so much stress, sadness and grief. My heart is broken. My boy was one of those special cats - the kind even people who hate cats love. He deserved better. I understand mistakes are made in life but this was inexcusable. I called twice to report fast breathing afterwards and they weren't concerned!! Is this a matter of being too busy to give proper attention? Why not suggest testing to rule out a potentially deadly condition developing? I wish I had never stopped going to my previous vet who specialized in cats. My boy would be alive.
