Flying into Canada has its perks, but here I was flying to Regina, Saskatchewan just because I had…read moresome business to attend to in the city. Plus, I enjoy the small city town vibe that Regina had to offer.
The 5th annual Saskatchewan Credit Unions Queen City marathon was being held on the 2nd Sunday in September and it was better to fly directly into Regina instead of Saskatoon. I flew Delta airlines in and out of Regina on this trip, which I believe is the only U.S. Airline to service Regina international airport. The airport itself was indeed an international airport, since it has flights to and from the United States. Although it's designed international, it's still a small regional airport, due to its size and number of departure gates. It's definitely similar to the regional airports in the United States. Just smaller and tight packed for your flying experience in and out of Regina. The Regina Saskatchewan international airport has the basic essentials of any airport in Canada and middle America.
The best part is that the rental car counter is in the terminal, next to the arrivals / baggage claim, and the actual lot of cars is just a short walk outside the terminal. You could return the car 1 hour to departure and still make it to your gate with plenty of time to sit and relax for your flight. The arrival process was rather fun, since we all were given the Canadian customs form on the plane to fill out. We arrived and funneled into the border customs area, where we were processed. My time here was rather fast, under 5 minutes, and I was on my way to the rental car counter, out of the airport, and to my hotel for the weekend ahead. They asked more questions than that of other border security officials ask, presumably that Regina is a smaller airport and the risk of anything wrong is certainly heightened. The time it took to get off the plane, through border security, to the car rental counter, and into the rental car took at most 30 minutes. I thought it would have been longer, but I guess I was wrong.
Be aware to keep your US Passport or any identification with you at all times. It really sucks if you lose it somewhere!
The Regina international airport is organized and functional at the fame time, even at 4:30am, it was already good to go. The airport business is really 24/7 and they cater to anyone and everyone passing through, for business or pleasure. The departure area is quite interesting, like a kiosk of a few gates huddled together, but when you start boarding, you enter a long hall way and it's like going to the movie theater where you need to enter the correct jetway number for the aircraft. Kind of cute in a neat way. The airport itself has even a Subway restaurant kiosk in the arrivals / baggage claim area, which is kind of cool too. Whatever your travels has you here in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, best bet would be to fly here directly. Wouldn't hurt to price compare neighboring cities for the best price either. It's a cute regional airport that you can get in and out quickly and safely. Just be sure you have your luggage and travel documents in check! Safe travels!
