This is a basic mural. It is the work of Department of Public Words, a group that aims to empower people through art and education. The group guided youth from the TeenWorks summer jobs program in creating this mural, which was painted in 2016.
It was intended to spread positivity and encouragement. The mural has bright colored polka dots against a gray background. Some of the dots have inspirational words such as "Have Fun", "Peace", "I Love You", "Laugh" and "Hope". The mural is plastered with "indy Variety Parking Only" signs, which really district from the mural. It is reported that Indy Variety is closed though and is the store opposite the mural.
The mural is located on the side of a dry cleaners overlooking its parking lot. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot during my visit, which unfortunately, blocked a good portion of the mural. I could still see the main part though.
There is free street parking available to park, get out and take a closer look. You can also park in the lot that the mural overlooks, but it is a bit tight though.
As I previously mentioned, this is one of the most basic murals you will find. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. read more
