Before checking in at our hotel, we opted to spend the afternoon here. There is no parking lot, so street-side parallel parking is your primary option if coming in a vehicle. When we arrived, the spaces closest to the park were taken, so we parked a little further down at a widened gravel shoulder next to the "Old Swim Hole" and walked the short distance to Manson Bay Park. The grassy area on the north end of the park is modest, but well-shaded by trees and very comfortable for sitting on a blanket. There are a few benches and an artist's sculpture on display. The swimming area is rectangular, with concrete steps leading down to the water on two of four sides. A floating divider separates the shallow part from the deeper end, where swimmers can jump/dive from the part that extends into the lake. Tiny pebbles cover the bottom, and can be walked on without any discomfort. A well-staffed team of life guards were monitoring the swimming area when we were there. Next to and below Wapato Way/Manson Blvd are public bathrooms and a water fountain. Our kids enjoyed swimming and collecting the driftwood floating in the swimming area; however, there is no "beach"/"sandy" area at this park. Still, it was a much better place than expected after coming here on a local's referral. read more
