This ice cream and coffee place is across from the templo santo domingo. It offers a large assortment of ice cream, from local flavors to usual ones. The pricing is fair, it was 50 pesos for a small cup of 2 scoops. I tried the manolo and pistachio, both are alright. The manolo from what I understood is a secret recipe, it has a sweet flavor. I love this place! They have a great variety of flavors. So far, I've tried limón (lime) and limón y pepino (lime and cucumber) nieves de agua. I loved the cucumber flavor! Why doesn't the US make cucumber flavored things? My boyfriend tried the chocolate nieves de leche during our first visit and coco (coconut) nieves de leche during our second visit. I also sampled the manolo flavor this time and it was good. I'm not sure how to describe the nieves de leche (milk). It's not ice cream but it's good. The nieves de agua is like really good shaved ice. This place is small, but very welcoming. We stopped by again tonight (Saturday) after we drank some mezcal at the place next door. We were the only people there so we started to chat with the employee while we ate our desserts. She told us that she studies English every morning and we told her that we are here to study Spanish. We talked back and forth in Spanish and English. It was one of my favorite interactions so far. Her name is Valencia. If she's working, you will definitely feel welcome! read more

They are good quality organic ice creams and I actually like them, but I prefer going to the ice cream stands outside La Soledad. They are more expensive than your usual ice cream but the quality speaks for itself. It's a bit annoying that every time I go wishing to try an exotic flavor, most of the time not all of them are available. I do like sticking to the more traditional flavors, my favorite combination is mamey & lemon, everywhere I go I order that combo, it's just unique. There's also some flavors for the people who want something outside the box, like basil & cheese, mole & chocolate, some are mixed with mezcal, leche quemada w/tuna (pricked pear), tamarind w/chapulines, the list never ends, so if you're lucky they might have the one you wish to try. read more

I LOVE Manolo Nieves. They always have such fun flavors, and there's the added "organic" aspect. They are quite a bit more expensive than the nieves you can get in the street (also freaking awesome), but they are artisanal and it comes through in the flavor. The portions seem small, but they'll be just right once you get to the bottom of the cup (or cone). read more

Nieves Manolo is a great little spot and a longtime fixture of Oaxaca. The ice cream is always excellent and they offer a wide array of flavors from pistachio to mezcal. However, their takes on more traditional flavors are some of the best I've had. Traditional flavors range from vanilla, tuna (a red cactus fruit that's a pretty common and traditional flavor for nieves) and leche quemada (also a pretty common flavor) all of which are excellent although may taste a little different to someone who is used to more name-brand or mainstream ice cream. This's because the ice creams such as pistachio doesn't just taste like it's pistachio flavored but rather that it's actually made with pistachio. Although the list of flavors rarely changes, the flavors available change nearly every day which encourages you to try new flavors. Additionally, Nieves Manolo is excellently located on El Andador right across a pedestrian-only, cobblestone street from the beautiful Santo Domingo church. Finally, Nieves Manolo has been a longtime fixture of Oaxaca. My dad, who was born and raised in Oaxaca tells stories of stopping on his way home from school to get ice cream from the Nieves Manolo cart. All in all, an excellent spot for anyone looking for excellent ice cream that very nicely compliments a stroll around downtown Oaxaca. read more
