While watching a college baseball game at Cal Lutheran, I wanted to grab some great Mexican food, since I do live in Oregon and there isn't much available up here. Been going to Manny's since the 80's when the late Manny still ran the place. Decided to stop in yesterday and pleased to report that the burritos are as good as they ever were, and gigantic! Definitely a bit on the pricey side for a burrito, but keep in mind it is pretty much 2 meals with how big it is. read more

I've had their breakfast burrito before and it was O-k. I tried them again recently and was a bit disappointed. I typically get a sausage breakfast burrito, but they were out of sausage(??). The biggest disappointment was the price. A burrito is now close to $14! At that price point I'll make one at home. They also charge a 4% fee for using a credit card. I noticed there were no prices on the menu so it was sticker shock when I paid. I like Mexican food but I'm not willing to pay a ridiculously high price for it. read more

They have really good hard shell tacos with your choices of meat. My goto are the carnitas, or chicken which is lightly marinated in salas. It's the same chicken they use for there quesadillas too which are delicious! There street tacos de Asada & burritos are good too, and there bean & cheese burritos never disappoint! I write my reviews with the context of the type of restaurant. For Manny's that's order-at-the counter, find a seat place. I was in the mood for a nice gooey enchilada. My H is always in the mood for a burrito. This time, "wet". So we ordered, my two filled with chicken, his with carnitas. Mine was a combination with rice and beans. His had everything wrapped in. Our total came to about $30. Seems that's about standard for not-fast-food lunch. The cashier brought is some house-made chips. They have a self-serve condiment bar. I'd already gotten some red salsa. I enjoyed it. It was thick enough to stay on the chips, a little bit sweet with just the right amount of heat. They also had green salsa, Onion-cilantro stuff, and some pickled peppers. So we crunched on chips while we waited for our food. My enchiladas were cooked perfectly. Although the chicken looked cubed, it was very tender and flavorful. I could have shredded it with a fork. I loved the sauce over them. It was savory and slightly spicy with just the right consistency. The beans and rice were ok. I'd have liked a bit more smoky flavor in the beans and a little more moisture in the rice. But they were fine. I didn't taste my H's burrito, but it sure looked good and he liked it. It was about 3" in diameter. The place wasn't crowded and there were plenty of tables both inside and outside. The TV was on the whole time and three of the syrups were out in the soft drink machine, hence a deduction of a star. Manny's is close to my home. I don't know why I haven't gone there more. Maybe it's because they've improved the floors, tables, and chairs over the years. We all know that when we are in search of legit Mexican food, there are only 2 places one can go... Option 2: (no not Taco Bell!!) but a hole in the wall Mexican joint. And you guessed it, Manny's Mexican Grill is all about option # 2. Sure Manny's has a digitized menu and it is very clean inside, but hey what's wrong with that!? Just because it's a hole in the wall, doesn't mean it can't have standards. Their food is authentically prepared and is so full of flavor. The menu selection is decently sized so you can easily find something for everyone in your party. There are 10 booth-style tables inside and a couple tables right out front. They have 2 t.v's going, one usually with a soccer game on and the other playing some nice Spanish music. Both their salsa bar and soft drink station are self serve so help yourself when you are here. Staff is always friendly and this is definitely a great place to eat in or order your food to-go. The menu is great, lots of options but my favorite is the asada plate. The Chips and tortillas are tasty, the salsa is good too but I add onions to mine to make it a bit more like pico de Gallo. Manny's is a local Mexican restaurant that has delicious authentic food at a reasonable price. They have a good variety of food options and I have never been disappointed by any of their entrees. The portions are definitely big enough to fill you up and they taste much better than the majority of other Mexican restaurants in the area. Their menudo that they serve on Saturday and Sunday is especially delicious and will remind you of the kind your mom used to make.
