Mannix heating and AC installed a central air conditioning unit in our home in Feb 2022. Following Ray's home visit, assessment of our needs, our home, our furnace, Mannix provided us with a quote of 3 different units which they felt would meet our cooling needs. We went for the most expensive unit on the list ($7,500) and this was mostly due to its features including quieter running.
Summer of 2022, we had issues with the unit cooling our home whenever the outside temperature was 80 F or greater. Ray came and made some adjustments to the system and recommended we open all the household vents for better airflow (even those in the basement) and that we install a lightweight furnace filter, because our heavier winter one may be inhibiting air flow.
This summer (2023), by the beginning of July, the compressor on the unit had burned out. We believe that this is most likely due to the air conditioner running continuously for 6-8 hours a day when it is over 80 F outside. We cool our home to 75 F (24 C). On a hot day the hallway thermostat is generally reads 77 F or higher so the a/c keeps running to try and cool the home. Ray came and replaced the compressor and charged us $2,500 for doing the replacement. This was for his labour and supplies, but not the compressor as that part was covered by the unit's warranty. We still cannot cool our home to the thermostat set point. Ray now feels our furnace is too small, our duct work is too small, the central staircase in our home pulls the cool air downward. All these things about our home have not changed at all since Ray gave his initial quote to us. Then during our last meeting in our home, a suggestion was made, we could install a $6,000 heat pump in our upstairs living room outside wall. That would mean our home has a 2.5 tonne central air unit, as well as, a 2 tonne heat pump. Our total home sq footage is 2,500. Therefore, at this point, it will cost us $16,000 to get AC working properly in our house.
Mannix and Ray take no responsibility for their misquote of our air conditioning needs or our home's characteristics to effectively cool. They feel they have completed their work and if we had only opened every wall in our home and put in bigger duct work and installed a larger furnace, then the system would work properly for us.
We are very disappointed and not pleased customers. read more
