I walked in with cash in my pocket, hoping to be surprised and be forced to buy a guitar I didn't expect to run into, as I do whenever I'm in a new or unfamiliar place against my will, as on this day. As I walked in the door, which I was glad to find open during business hours (often these days, doors aren't, especially with guitar and music stores), and was one of 3 customers in the store, the other two already inside, far from the solitary visible employee, who never looked up from the computer or spoke to me until I asked him two guitars on the third row of wall guitars up, that I didn't know by sight, to ask what they were. Instead of answering, he asked me if I was going to buy anything. How do I know if I'm going to buy anything, when I'm asking you what I'm looking at, when you ask me that? I'm going to say this was a "socially awkward person" issue, but that's not going to make me ever come back to this store. Someone at this store does not understand that once you alienate a customer who is apt to return if they feel good about you, you're never going to see that person again. But I hope you all survive. You are going to have to change the way you view and treat people walking in off the street to do that, otherwise why are you paying overhead to have a brick and mortar store just to make people feel unwelcome and suspect, when they walk in. I thought, walking out, this place is doomed, and maybe that's for the best, because the model of personal conduct shouldn't survive. I felt disliked, and unwelcome for no reason, other than that I must be stupid for walking through the door. It seems impossible this is not a common experience. "Are you going to buy something?" In fact, I'm writing this review while he is practicing "Scarborough Fair." He's come a long way since playing early pieces without chords. :) The owner hires excellent instructors. That's one of the advantages of going to a studio instead of trying to find someone on your own. He's had the same main teacher for his whole time here, but every substitute teacher that he's had has been very good with kids. That's another advantage of a studio: weekly lessons whether or not your main instructor can make it. If you want to make progress at an instrument, you need to make a weekly commitment. The system of instruction seems to be well-thought out. I like the main set of piano books that they use, and they also add other types of pieces--jazz, some pop tunes--so that he is learning more than just the classical style. The teachers have also been willing to work with my son's interests. When he expressed an interest in playing Master of Puppets (not my idea ...) and Pinball Wizard, they found suitable music for his level so that he could give the pieces a shot. Everything is really well organized. The shift to online instruction with COVID was handled very well. It's been easy to get online with the music teachers. We also get emails after the lesson detailing what he needs to cover in the following week. I think the class makeup policy is completely fair. It is simply unreasonable to allow students to reschedule classes. For one, there is no space for it in a teacher's schedule, and it is unfair to ask teachers to reserve a couple hours a week for makeup slots that might be filled or might not be filled, effectively denying them compensation for those hours in their week. A teacher should not be robbed of income just because a family can't make a regularly scheduled time slot. And the makeup lessons they do offer are fine--they kept my son on track with his musical development, which is what I really want to see. By the way, this is not just a studio for kids who love to practice and do so without being asked. My son is not always enthusiastic about practicing, but the teachers have done a great job of keeping him motivated and working with him on those days when he hasn't done enough or is feeling a little unmotivated. Also, the studio does a great job of using a rewards system to motivate kids to keep practicing regularly. Getting music lessons can be a tremendous benefit for your child's mind and spirit. If you are thinking about music lessons for your child, but hesitant about the investment, take a look at the research that shows how music benefits cognition, memory, and mood. For a few hundred dollars a month you can potentially help your child get more out of school, as well as open up new worlds of possibility for career and social life. Amabile is a great place to make that happen. Our family is very, very happy with how we have seen our son progress.

My daughter loved her and looked forward to each lesson. Even though she played "simple" pieces, they were always fun and interesting. They kept her engaged and willing to practice. What I loved is that Ms. Lee also developed her musicality and her appreciation of music. I was impressed at how much my daughter advanced in a short period of time. Unfortunately, we moved out of the area, but she graciously continued her lessons virtually until we found a new teacher. As a parent, I loved how she was so communicative with the parents and how organized she was (e.g. Google doc notes for every lesson, online theory practice, easy invoicing for payments, studio classes, makeup lessons, and recitals). Not all teachers are so organized (I have three kids who all play instruments), and I appreciated how easy it was to work with her. And... Ms. Lee also still performs, too, with local Bay Area groups - she plays beautifully, always performing at the recitals. Guitar came back playing much better and fret dents completely gone. High E string didn't sound…read moreright though, had sitar like sound I was surprised they didn't hear on the final inspection. It was too far a drive to bring it back but a little research told me the bridge point was probably a little flat and that I could file a sharper point on it and it might fix it. It did fix it. I brought another guitar in as well and they fixed everything wrong and even found a couple additional things which they fixed at no additional charge.
