We hired Downtown Electric to retrofit twelve sub panels and replace one sub panel in an apartment…read morebuilding. Twelve of them were bid at $750 each. The one new panel was bid at $1800 because it had more circuit breakers requiring a larger panel. Upon completion of the work I noticed the one additional panel was not replaced as per the estimate, but instead retrofitted exactly like the other twelve with the addition of two spare,(not in use) circuit breakers. When I called to ask the owner Joey Bloomquist about it he attempted to justify,(or confuse me) with some excuse about how he figured out a way to make it work, and then agreed to adjust the estimate and subtract $800, (still $250 higher than the other panels) but only because he got called out, not because it was the right thing to do. If I hadn't said anything he would have let us pay the full $1800 for it. My focus is still on the estimate. The $500 permit charge sounds way too high. I looked it up online which was dated three days after the work was completed and learned it was only $183. (I'm thinking this guy really has some nerve. First the $1050 overcharge and now another $317!) I'm feeling personally insulted now. Keep in mind, the estimate says,"REIMBURSE PERMIT CHARGE... $500." Maybe this is worded too vaguely and should be clarified because this sounds like he's claiming he paid Regional $500 for the permit which is obviously not true. I called to ask him why he overcharged $317 and I finally get a call back with the hidden charges explanation. "I had to go to the regional office"..." I had to draw pictures"... "I had to discuss the job"... "I had to do load calculations"..."I usually charge $1000 for this,"(he wouldn't have gotten the work). None of the other contractors estimates showed any of these charges so it just sounded like more BS. His estimate was within range of the other two closest bids. The only reason he got the work is because of the cleaner retrofit vs the other bids which were for new panels. It feels like Mr. Bloomquist saw me as an easy pushover he could squeeze some extra money out of and I wouldn't even know it. Maybe it wasn't just me, maybe this is a common business practice with this company. I never expected so much shade from a company whose profession is lighting. You would think that doing $10,000 worth of business with him would earn a little more gratitude than disrespect.

Not very cool - I wanted to hire them but they never returned my calls…read more I shipped a rare antique 1940s neon Swihart Hesitator Clock (see photo) to Pueblo, Colorado and unfortunately, one of the neon tubes got snapped by FedEx during shipping. I told the recipient in Pueblo that I would find a neon company in Pueblo. And I promised him that I would pay them to fix the neon tube - no matter how much money it cost me. The only neon place I could find on the internet in Pueblo, Colorado was Ralph's Neon & Electric. Unfortunately, they never returned my calls and they never answered my message. For some reason, they list 2 locations and 2 phone numbers on Bing (see photo). They look like a big establishment so they must have two locations. I called them several times at both numbers (see my cell phone log photo). I actually reached a woman at one number and I was referred to a guy named "Chuck" at the other number. He never answered and I left a message. I never heard from anyone. And after 2 weeks I just got angry, I blocked their numbers, and I wrote my Yelp review. I can't hire Ralph's Neon or use their services if they don't answer their phone or call me back! Was my job too small? Did they think I'm a scammer since I called them from another state? Who knows? They look like a huge, well established, multi-generational company so I'm being generous and giving them two stars. Although I'm tempted, I'm not going to knock them down to 1 star for dodging my phone calls. They must be doing something right to afford all of the heavy equipment and real estate. But personally, I was left high & dry and without neon light. -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. Ralph's complained to Yelp and they had my previous review removed by Yelp HQ because Ralph's told Yelp that I'm a business competitor. I can assure everyone that I'm not and I have never been in the sign business, the electrical business, the neon business, or the antique business . I'm a retired biologist that loves antiques. In addition, the guy I shipped the clock to isn't in any of these businesses and he's also a retired gentleman.

Finally they did call, after we had given the job to an out-of-town company. After all of that time had passed, the gentleman had the nerve to take an attitude. When we open our next location, we will certainly not attempt to contact Ralph's again. He must be awfully busy to simply ignore a potential new customer. We have happily recommended the out-of-town company to other tenants who have been moving in to our strip center.

Jason Tse was my tech and he explained their down payment and charges. I was given 3 quotes each for the difficulty of the repair. I knew it was going to be expensive. I signed to continue the work. Who else could I get at 5pm on New Year's Eve? Jason went to work trying to locate the source. He checked the breaker box, voltage and nothing was pinpointing the cause. Jason really wanted to find and fix the problem before the night was out. And back to work Jason went. He isolated the problem around 8pm after checking the lines in the attic and each room. I told him I'd like to finish up by 9 and continue after New Year's Day. Jason wanted to work until everything was fixed. He finished around 10:30 and during that time we had some lively conversations. Jason I would give 5 stars. I thought the pricing was a bit high but considering the day and the time I guess it was appropriate. I was given a folder that explained the different things they did like plumbing, garage doors etc. I was pleased that they did emergency calls, were very prompt, carefully explained everything, Jason wore booties while in the house, did a great job cleaning. Just a super nice guy.
