    After--beautiful!

We have a beloved but not well cared for fishpond in our backyard. The filter system was a real eyesore, and the pond had become pretty dirty. I'd been looking for someone to help keep the fish healthy and the pond clean and pretty for years so was happy to find Greg and Manhattan Aquariums online. Greg come out to do an assessment and scheduled a time for cleaning and filter beautification within a week. He's a total pleasure to work with and clearly knows and loves what he's doing, and the price was totally reasonable. Greg worked with the system we had and somehow relaid the stones we already had onsite so the filter is well hidden but accessible. We can now see the fish--and can't see the filter. Total wins on both counts. Thank you Greg and Manhattan Aquariums. We'll see you again in the fall.

In short, Manhattan aquariums is the best fish store in Manhattan. They have average prices for the area, and nice displays. However, the staff can sometimes be ignorant and rude. The livestock can also sometimes fall short of expectations.

I have been a customer at Manhattan Aquariums for many years. Aside from their impressive selection of saltwater fish and coral, they also have an incredible freshwater section. While I would not say that customer service is at their forefront (an honest criticism), they certainly are armed with a team of highly knowledgeable and capable experts who can help you with anything from setting up your system, to curating your tank, to answering troubleshooting questions. I recently had an incredibly positive interaction with Justyna at M.A. She knew I had been eyeing a beautiful green and yellow mushroom for a while and when she had an opportunity to frag it, she saved me one! That's the kind of custom customer service I would love to see more of. That being said, Melissa and Mike are always there when you need some help. And the service team is top notch. Carlos and Mario are just a couple of my go-tos if I'm on vacation and need them to stop by to check on my tank. Grateful to the entire Manhattan Aquariums team. They've seen me through my entire reefing process. It's one of my greatest joys.

Salt water fish, coral, aquarium size tanks oh my! Found this hidden gem as i made my way out to javitz. What a treat. If you are a big salt water fish aficionado or looking to start up one i would say this is the place to go to as i havn't found anything else in manhattan very similar. A wide selection of coral and and salt water tropical fish. It can get pricey but the staff is knowledgeable to get you started. They have a huge tank in the front of the store which you can stare at and meditate with tranquility.

    Thank you Manhattan Aquarium!

How does a reef store not carry live rock??? Fish looked ok, though expensive. But what's the point if you don't carry the essentials?

I have to admit, this is the best saltwater fish store in Manhattan in terms of selection and quality of stock.

Before I address the haters, I want to say this place is my top choice for a local fish store. John…read moreand all of the crew greet me with warmth and casual professionalism everytime I walk through their doors. Now if you are still on the fence about coming here due to some people questioning the durability of MA's fish with them getting sick" within a day or two after bringing home" or that "Selling sick fish is unacceptable". Let me ease your mind. Yes, fish do get sick sometimes. That is always unfortunate. It is also sometimes out of a LFS's control at times. Pathogens, parasites and protozoa are always present in aquaculture. Symptoms may remain dormant or negligible and cannot be detected from a glance. Hence it is why we in the hobby quarantine new fish, not just for diseases we can see but also those we cannot. However sickness can sometimes not be preventable. Something you CAN prevent is a massacre of your whole tank by simply QUARANTINING YOUR FISH. If you allow time to do its thing you will most definitely know whether or not any action needs to be taken. Simply dumping new fish into established tanks just means " I dont care about my fish", " If they die its not my fault since I didnt know they were sick". Now alot of people in this hobby are beginners and thats great! Just learn to ask for help. If help is coming from a person who "pretended he didn't understand what I was saying", GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. There's this pretty neat place call the internet. Oh? you're on it now? WOW! SEE look at that! Not so Hard right? BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!! :) All in all, sorry for the rant. It is just frustrating to see such a good and hard working establishment come under fire from people who dont do their research and go "oh no, the consequences of my actions" when they screw up. K Bye ;)

Very disappointed. I've been buying fish from this store for years, but the prices have become…read moreridiculously high, and the livestock quality has clearly gone downhill. Last week I bought several fish here, and they turned out to have ich. Within just a few days, every one of them died, and worse, the disease spread to other fish in my tank. This ended up costing me far more than just the fish I bought from the store. Selling sick fish is unacceptable, especially from a store that specializes in aquarium livestock. Longtime customers should not have to worry about bringing disease home from a fish store. After this experience, I seriously question their fish health standards and whether they are properly monitoring the condition of the fish they sell.
