High tea at Mangapapa Hotel is a real treat and at $45 per person (including a glass of bubbles) it's not too pricey for such a beautiful venue. Wander around the grounds after, there's a cook's garden out the back. Three tiers of beautifully presented goodies, savoury and sweet. Sandwiches on the day we visited included classic cucumber, beef, chicken and salmon. Sweet things included a strawberry macaroon made with local freeze dried strawberries, orange and almond cake, a petite chocolate eclair, chocolate dipped strawberry and traditional cream and jam scone. Lots of attention to detail, right down to the beef 'roses'. Worth a visit for a special occasion. read more
