In a word, unbelievable. That's in the best possible sense of the word. Kristine, John and their dog Nessie are the best of the best, two or four-legged. I'll spare you the long story (take a look at their website http://www.greenhill.co.nz) except to say the pictures don't do justice to the view, the furnishings, the peace and quiet, etc. If there's anything Kristine and John couldn't do was adequately convey, via the website, the depth and breadth of the satisfaction and comfort you'll find at Greenhill Lodge. Highly, highly recommended. Be prepared for some of the finest dishes you'll eat in New Zealand, one of the best wine cellars you'll encounter and some of the most comprehensive pampering you will receive anywhere in the world. Also, be prepared for quiet. The nearest medium-sized town is Napier, which is nice, but it's twenty minutes away. Or, you can golf Cape Kidnappers, about forty minutes away and one of the top 100 golf courses in the world. Fabulous place and a good challenge for very good golfers. Havelock North, about fifteen minutes away, is a quaint village full of shops and small restaurants. I would recommend four nights at Greenhill Lodge, three if you're itchy to travel or time constrained. Full disclosure, I had never met John or Kristine prior to my NZ trip and am completely disinterested in any Greenhill Lodge operations. You will LOVE it. read more
