He told us his daughter did the painting and that the piupiu (flax woven skirt) belonged to his wife's mother.

Chinese guy said it's really bad they are switching carriers. They said they would call me back with a fix and never did. In the am a nice girl at reception put me on the new test system in the lobby. She also said the old system did not work. I asked for a credit and it's been a week... crickets. Hotel has two buildings, laundry on site & is walking distance to restaurants and shops. Our room had a fireplace and jacuzzi that we didn't expect. The bed was very comfortable and the complimentary laundry facilities set the tone for the rest of our holiday. Definitely recommend and will stay here on our next stop through town!

My favorite Hostel in the world…read more 1) It's just plain classy with it's Art Deco interior, balcony overlooking the center of town, and private lounge upstairs above the madness. The rooms are also more than passing with sinks in each room. 2) The landlady is hysterical and a realist. Very friendly, able to answer every question, and more than accommodating. 3) THE BIG ONE, the Location. You can't beat it. Across the street information center with free WiFi. Pub downstairs, clubs down the street. Waterfront around the corner. Everything else is on the block or one block down. I wish I could have stayed here multiple nights, but had to move on. Whakatane Hotel, you rocked my socks off.
