Peccato...

It is worth to get there just to enjoy complimentary appetizer that Giuseppe has a habit of serving to the "new faces" that put foot in his "carnal atelier." It is a glass of "Vino Cotto" (local liquor wine) with a slice of ciauscolo straddling the edge of the glass. Then the show begins. Songs and poems to die laughing all accompanied by the sound and music produced or accompanied with pig rinds and vertebrae. Give a look the bow tie made in pork rind.

It was founded in the early twentieth century by Angelo Feroci (Fierce in translation). The store no doubt has been renovated since then. It's covered in marble all over, featuring marble on marble counter stands and benches with bull carvings. The floor mosaic is done in white Carrara marble tiles with black diamonds. A large and ferocious looking black statue of a bull, attached high on the side wall, overlooks your meat selection. Angelo Feroci was recognized for his butchering achievements back in a day, he received a gold medal at the international exhibition in London in 1924, as well as at the international fair of Rome, 'For fresh meat of fine quality'.

They recently moved to smart new premises overlooking the renovated Piazza Testaccio. While the old butcher's, further down Via Giovanni Battista Bodoni was a piece of local history, the new shop is very clean and appealing. A long glass counter contains meat of all varieties, kept at an appropriate temperature. Apart from the choice cuts of beef, veal, chicken, turkey, rabbit etc., there are also 'ready meals' prepared by Alfredo, from meatballs to saltimbocca. Other fridges contain excellent quality salamis and hams from Tuscany, salad and vegetables, and there's even a wine selection so you can literally buy goods for an entire dinner party. Highly recommended overall - signing off, a happy customer who has been served by the Boattini family for 12 years.

The butcher had just become a grandfather, with twin grandchildren born that day. It was fun as everyone in town was coming by to congratulate him! We did too! It was interesting to learn that the white-colored chickens, we are used to seeing in the US, are white because of unnatural upbringing including antibiotics. We bought a natural yellow-colored chicken which the butcher cut up and prepared for us. It was delicious!
