I am about to celebrate my 4th anniversary as a member of Progress Fitness, and I can write only…read morepositive comments. This gym is a special place. Its motto is "We change lives," and I can attest that it changed mine. I hadn't exercised regularly for years when I joined. Now I'm fit and strong and many pounds lighter without "dieting." In addition, though I work hard there, I also have fun. At PF, one always works out under the guidance of a trainer. There are different kinds of classes, from strength training/cardio to tabata/toning to step or zumba or yoga. There are classes of different sizes. Some are as small as four people. The trainers are all very tuned into how each of us is doing and always have suggestions for modifying an exercise that doesn't work for any particular situation. Part of what makes PF special is the sense of community that Liza, the owner, and the other trainers have created. This is such a supportive, friendly place. I cannot imagine my life without Progress Fitness.

In December of last year I went with her to do a "buddy" workout and liked it. In the last week of December, I went to talk to one of the head trainers(Kim) for a health screen. I signed up for the one month trial that they offer. I did a "small group workout" and a Foundations workout, and really liked it! The trainers are very conscious of any limitations you may have, and help you modify any exercises that may be difficult/painful for you to do. Everyone who frequents the gym is very supportive of one another. It almost like a family! Liza Smith, who owns the gym, makes sure that everyone is taken care of and treats everyone who works out at the gym will respect. I have lost about 8 lbs in the time I've been going there. The workouts can be tough, but the trainers make them fun so you'll want to come back. If you live in the Harrisburg area, and want to get started on a healthier lifestyle, give the good people at Progress Fitness a try!!!!

Just joined up here this month and so far I am enjoying it however there are some things that annoy…read moreme slightly and I'll figure out how to get around it. So I am a member of Healthways and I love that Crunch is included, however it only includes the second membership that does include classes but not spin which is a bummer. If I paid $9 more I think it would include that plus I could have guest privileges which I thought would be cool to bring my mom here and there but its not for classes which is all she'd do. I do love Spin but the classes always seem full and there's no rhyme or reason as to when to sign up so I don't want to spend the extra money and then not be able to take full advantage. So they have this app which is great to sign up for classes but it only allows you to sign up within 24 hours which is fine but it doesn't always work that way. For example now - I look to sign up and I can sign up for tonight and tomorrow morning but not tomorrow evening which is still within 24 hours. And the spin is ALWAYS full. When does one actually see slots to get in? Makes me sad. Anyway though, the facility is clean and there's plenty of things to do and they have a foolproof circuit which I enjoy. The classes I've tried so far have been fun and at times that I can make it to. And they also have some 30 minutes classes which are great with my insane life schedule. So I'll continue to add this into my regime and hopefully someday soon I'll be buff.

The worst ghetto gym I've ever belonged to. No one puts weights away, people always "marking"…read moreequipment that they are going to use next ( including trainers), everyone carrying bags even though the rules clearly ban them in the exercise areas. It has to be the laziest staff I've ever seen. Heaven forbid they step from behind the counter and clean something. Equipment always out of order, running out of paper towels, etc, etc, etc.

Wish I would have looked the reviews before joining. Don't take the word of employees... read…read moreeverything. A lot of the negative reviews were years ago and pertained to this locations hours which has changed. Basic Gym. Pretty standard crowd. Not really a bodybuilder's place but easily could be. Half decent music playlist, no ads in between songs is a huge plus. Lots of variety when it comes to dumbbells, plates and cable accessories. Tons of room and space to work around others. Gets pretty crowded around 4-7 pm as expected. 95% of the people going here are legit about lifting. I'd say the other 5% is younger high school kids just socializing and screwing around who don't know how to rack their weights. Seems to be the case at almost any gym. Gym is relatively massive, kinda lacking in water fountains if you ask me. Only one water fountain per floor and they have rather poor water pressure but really who cares that much, they get the job done. Finally if you're looking for a gym with a sauna, honestly I'm not sure I would recommend this location. Yes they have one. But it seems it's abused by fellow lifters. I've been a member for probably 5+ years at this point and the men's sauna at least, has consistently been in and out of operation. In managements defense however, if I were running a gym, I'm not sure I would keep dumping money into something so under-appreciated anyway. Im not sure how I would resolve this personally. Either run the sauna during staffed hours or look at upgrading to a wet sauna. Probably wicked expensive though. 24/7 hours is a huge plus although previous members weren't grandfathered into that and had to pay upgrade fees. Not the end of the world. Staff is pretty chill and they tend to stay busy, either cleaning the locker rooms or re-racking the weights of those 5% high school kids I mentioned earlier. Also they got rid of the stair master, poor decision in my opinion. They also offer personal training and I think barre classes or whatever it is and there is a separate salon business in the same building. Pretty cool little community gym. It would be cool to see them support local charities or fundraisers. Overall, it's a great gym and it beats the other local spots in the Harrisburg area. A dynamic and affordable gym.
