The lazy river is great and the lap lanes in the indoor pool are nice (but few), except when they run the wave pool every 20 minutes... Then it's a fight for your life to get out before being bashed by people riding the waves in the provided pool tubes. Seriously. ;) For corporate events and family gatherings, the meeting room spaces are bright and well maintained and very affordable to rent. The Wildwood Family YMCA is exactly the kind of gym I like. I have never had to wait for a machine or give mine up after 30 minutes, and they have lots of TVs and machines with TVs on them, so your TV fix is set. The best thing about this location is their morning cycling classes with Lynn, who is a WONDERFUL cycling instructor. Let's face it, some cycling instructors suck. Lynn creates well-planned cycling classes and sets them to good, upbeat music that almost makes you forget what a crazy workout you're getting. Plus, the classes are free with membership so you can go all you want. So if you want a really unpretentious place to work out without feeling out of place amidst the triathletes and body builders, the Wildwood YMCA is for you.

The Y offers lot for a reasonable price. However, you also give up a lot for this price. I swim…read moreseveral times a week, and I am a lap swimmer. The rules are posted on the wall for lap swimming. On several occasions there have been people that get into your lane and do not abide by the rules. You tell the life guards, and they do nothing. Most of the life guards are teenagers, and they never intervene unless the situation is severe. I have had occasions where someone gets into the lane while I am swimming, and almost crashes into me because they did not look at the rules or follow them. The lifeguards saw all this but still did not say or do anything until the yelling started. This doesn't happen very often, and the offenders are not the lap swimmers. It is usually a kid who is not supposed to be in the lap lane to begin with (summertime issue when school is out and the pool is crowded), or someone who is not a lap swimmer and did not read the rules. Both times it was a huge safety issue. They list the days/times/hours for lap swimming, but do not enforce the rules. It can be very frustrating.

School of Rock summer camp is one of the experiences that launched my daughter's musical life. She's now done solos in her school talent show and had principal roles in musical theatre shows. These camps are perfect for beginners who show an interest in music and want to give it a try. It's a full week of fun and some instruction, plus exposure to what it takes to get up on stage and perform with with band. A child who wants to play an instrument or sing should definitely experience this. It's an encouraging, energetic environment. Make sure you plan to attend the performance at the end of the week because it's a big deal to the kids. And get there early to get a seat because both years my daughter did the camp, it ended up being standing room only.
