My own snobbishness didnt want me to be comfortable being in a "big room with others in the same space". I got over it pretty quick. Lots of space, most people were asleep and the white noise machines lets you create your own "space within a space". Now, I dont even think about it. The cost is very affordable (thank you). I highly recommend Manchester Acupuncture Studio (MAS). I discovered them in September 2019 after being forced to discuss my deteriorating knees with an Orthopaedic Surgeon. My experience was very positive. I went multiple times a week for a couple of months then dropped to weekly, then every other week. I was treated by various Acupunks, as they call themselves. All were very good. I have to single out Andy Wegman though because he is amazing! He fixed my knees. He even added some cupping which was very beneficial. Then COVID came and shut everything down. My knees are still in excellent shape all these months later! Absolutely amazing!! Even if you've never tried acupuncture and want to see what it's all about, don't be afraid to try them. I highly recommend going to Manchester Acupuncture Studio! I always wanted to try acupuncture but my deep fear of needles kept me from doing so. I first went when they were offering a 2-for-1 deal. A friend of mine convinced me to at least meet with them. You'll fill out your paperwork and have a consultation in a private room your first visit. They asked me to identify up to 3 areas to be treated. They discussed how acupuncture would benefit these areas and developed a treatment plan for me. They then showed me how the "needles" literally bend. Once I saw this, I was willing to give it a try. I was amazed at how if I wasn't watching where they put them in, I wouldn't know anything was there. If you have this fear yourself, I highly recommend going to meet with them first to see for yourself how they are nothing like the traditional needles we all have in mind when we hear the work needles. The studio is a community acupuncture facility. They explained to me this approach is to keep things affordable as well as they believe there's better healing in numbers. So after your consultation, you move into the community room. It's a large tranquil room in an old mill building so therefore the room has a very open feeling to it. There is relaxing music playing as well as many white noise machines. The lights are low and at night there are candles glowing all around the room. There are about 14 recliners I'd guesstimate. They provide blankets and pillows but you can also bring in your own if you'd prefer. They come in to treat you after you've selected a recliner and put your belongings in the bin next to your chair. They show you the sealed needles and take them out of the wrapping in front of you. They ask you wear clothes that you can easily raise your pants to above your knee as well as a shirt with sleeves you can roll up if need be. The placement of the needles depends on what your being treated for. Because of the white noise machines going, you never hear what the acupuncturists and a client are discuss, thus privacy is not an issue. After your needles are placed, they will put a blanket over you if you wish. They ask you if you need to leave at a certain time because almost everyone seems to fall asleep during their treatment. I am not one of those people whom can fall asleep during my treatment. I bring an ipod with reordered meditations I listen to during my treatment. They constantly walk around every few minutes to make sure everyone is doing well and doesn't need anything. When you are ready to leave, you sit up in your recliner and they'll come over to you and remove the needles. It's literally painless! Your needles are immediately placed in a biohazard disposal bin after they've removed them. They are open daily, even on holidays. They have great hours that anyone should be able to appreciate. You can schedule online or call. I've also noticed that even if it appears online they don't have an opening when you desire to go, if you call they have always accommodated my time. They are very understanding and flexible. If too many people are being treated, there is a second smaller community room they open when needed. They are also very affordable. It's a self pay, none insurance payment. They suggest a range between $15-$30 a visit. You pay what you can, no questions ask. If you have a FSA, save your receipt as it's FSA reimbursement eligible. They have a frequent recliner punch/loyalty card. After so many visits, you get a free one. I've also heard that if you have a more chronic issue being treated and they recommend you come often at first to treat it, they offer a deeper discount to those patients to keep it affordable for them. Manchester Acupuncture Studio I have been a client/customer/patient of Manchester Acupuncture Studio in Manchester New Hampshire. This is a Community based acupuncture program that serves the greater Manchester area and surrounding towns and cities. I have had greater than 40 acupuncture treatments since the beginning of July. The quality is very good along with the staff. The staff are very accommodating whether its working you in on a busy schedule with no appointment, or if you have some special needs and require a little special assistance. There are sixteen reclining chairs in a large ward like room. Community acupuncture provides an added benefit of group encouragement and healing. The treatments are reasonable; they are $ 15 - $ 35 dollars, on a sliding scale geared to help all participants afford the treatments. Tiny little disposable needles are carefully placed in the arms, legs, feet, hands, and head (depending upon what type of treatment you require). The clinic is also usually able to treat two or three issues, simultaneously. Warm blankets are provided for those who require them, and a bathroom is available inside the clinic. The needles are often not even felt when the "punk" places them, at the most, minor mosquito like bite and any minor pain disappears within a minute or less. The treatments themselves are relatively painless and generally last about an hour, though you are welcome to stay longer if you wish. I want to point out my two favorite practitioners; Andy Wegman and Amy Vlacich. Andy and Amy are very skilled, but they are also natural communicators and very in tuned to the patient need requirements. I have also had Elizabeth Ropp and Jodi Lemery, they are very skilled as well. I would recommend Manchester Acupuncture Studio very highly for treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, blood pressure, swelling and inflammation, back pain, neck pain and a variety of other treatments. On the first visit you setup up a short 10 minute consult with the acupuncturist to discuss your treatment plan and options for treating multiple issues or conditions. I have been going to MAS for 4 years. I had a chronic pain condition that was really bad years ago and I had tried everything the doctors recommended. EVERYTHING! One day, I was feeling desperate and decided to give acupuncture a try. I was skeptical because I had so much trouble finding relief from medications, injections, surgeries, and physical therapy. But to my surprise, acupuncture brought me relief. It's not a magic wand but there's something almost magical about it. I found myself going back, time and time again. I just read the review by Michael H, and I could not let it go un-countered. I have received acupuncture in many, many places before and since regularly getting needled at MAS; and the practices of acupuncturists that I've seen are universally the same with respect to "swabbing" and "gloving." There is much solid and reliable published evidence about the inefficacy and in fact potential for harm of "swabbing points" before needles are put in, as using alcohol is colloquially referred to. And increased potential for harm and needle sticks with "gloving." Clean hands are a part of universal precautions, and over the course of years, I have never witnessed one of their punks inserting needles without washing their hands. If you're worried about sitting in the same chair that someone else has sat in, bring your own blanket like they welcome you to do. Otherwise, trust a successful and well-reputed establishment serving, literally serving more than 15,000 clients a year to do their job well like they've done for more than 5 years. In Michael H's mouth, "relaxing environment" sounds condescending and pejorative. That clinic is serious business, doing serious work to help people get their stuff worked out and get better. Michael H sounds like he wants readers to believe he has a solid base of knowledge about acupuncture. If he truly did, he would know that the conventional medical model of listing your medical conditions on a health questionnaire is a clumsy, western adaptation of chinese medicine that does little if anything to support the true diagnostic elegance of the art, where talk is cheap and the needles do the work. My advice is to see for yourself, ask questions of the staff and 15,000 patients/yr (many of them your friends and family), and do your own homework. Great place to pick up a disease. The acupuncturists do not wash hands between handling needles from multiple patients nor do they wear gloves. They do not use alcohol on an area before inserting needles so that if a harmful bacteria is present on the skin and their needle goes deep enough there could be a serious issue. You lay on a reclining chair with a covering and when one person leaves they shake out the covering before putting it right back on the chair. This means if the person bled or drooled onto the covering the next person is laying on that. Bleeding from an acupuncture needle stick is normal, the acupuncturist not noticing is not. I had an inch blood trail and if I had a blood borne disease, since they do not wash hands, after she handled my needle these are the potential areas she could have spread that to: went and handled other peoples needles, used the door handle on the door, turned over a covering on a chair. It is a relaxing environment and I think the acupuncturists are friendly and have very good intentions. However, following universal pre-cautions is basic protocol as well as common sense. If they lack the basic protocol and common sense here, where else are they are taking short cuts? That they do not have you fill out a health questionnaire that lists your medical conditions is another short cut. To list my health complaints is voluntary. I am a big believer in acupuncture but find another place as unless they change their protocols this place is just waiting for a hepatitis outbreak or something similar. read more

Manchester Acupuncture Studio is the best, bar none. I had an injury I thought would never heal and was just resigned to living with the pain. Then one day the pain was unbearable and I was desperate. I found this place, proceeded with treatment, healed while experiencing benefits above and beyond my wildest expectations, and it was a revelation. My injury is long since healed, but I have continued to go here because frankly, I feel amazing after coming here. I sleep better, have less stress, feel happier, and I have taken my workouts to a whole new level. (I am a serious athlete and PR'd in the mile by a full ten seconds!) The only significant change I made in my training from my prior PR to my current PR was my patronage here at MAS. I've racked my brain trying to deconstruct the science involved in this breakthrough. My best theory is that receiving treatment here took my recovery to a level I couldn't reach just getting massages and stretching and foam rolling. The treatments physically feel amazing, like the end-point of the best massage ever, without manual manipulation of the tissues. I should add that I always take care to relax and get comfortable when I come in for a treatment, before switching on my ipod, zoning out, breathing deeply, thinking positive thoughts, and meditating. I think this mindfulness makes a difference. Before trying this place, I was the ultimate skeptic, not wanting to believe in any new age, unfounded, deceptive, placebo-effect type of treatments. Zealous searches for all the current, peer-reviewed research on "acupuncture" and certain blood serum markers (like, for instance, "immunoglobulin") yielded evidence that acupuncture does effect the body in a positive way, and not just fudged evidence, either, but the real kind: randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. On account that acupuncture stood this truest scientific test and passed, bearing in mind my anguish at the time, I decided to experience it for myself. And it's one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Try it out for yourself and you will see what I mean- If you have a friend with an injury or illness, or just going through a tough personal time, I would urge you to consider bringing them to acupuncture and going yourself as well. An acupuncture buddy will be your friend for life. Just a note for those apprehensive of needles, the "needles" are actually finer than a strand of hair and don't hurt when inserted. In the hands of a non-practitioner, acupuncture needles will actually bend when placed against the skin (rather than insert)- they are that pliable and gentle. The things acupuncture can do for your life are profound. In fact, I would personally love to see MAS hosting a health care providers fair of some kind, and getting those MDs into chairs for treatment, so individuals on the front lines of health care can experience for themselves the therapeutic benefits and make the informed decision to start incorporating acupuncture within their practices. I have scrapped the idea of gifting someone with a spa date and just send them here instead. If there is anything wrong with you, or anything going on with your body that is less than optimal, this place can probably fix it. This acupuncture studio is my favorite thing about the city. In my experience, it has been a beacon of healing and of hope. When you are suffering and have tried other things, and gotten anything less than superb results, the Manchester Acupuncture Studio has what you need. Acupuncture still flies under the radar, and that is a missed opportunity to the health and well-being of all those who have never experienced it. Because its virtues are still not widely known or understood, I felt it necessary that my review address both MAS and acu in general. How well does acupuncture work- if at all? And: How well does MAS do? The verdict? Acupuncture works & MAS rocks. Other details: The hours here are pretty great. Conveniently, they manage to be open late enough during week days and also on the weekends so that even someone juggling a demanding schedule can be accommodated. The environment is just as it should be: unassuming but still beautiful, comfortable, tranquil and serene. Aside from performing miracles while making you feel relaxed and rejuvenated, this place is set up around a very innovative treatment model that allows them to charge way, way less than anywhere else. They charge less than 1/10th of what the treatments are worth. I truly believe you won't find better acupuncture anywhere in the world than from Andy. Everyone on staff goes the extra mile to make sure your experience amazing, comfortable, relaxing and therapeutic. And I'll say it again: Andy is the best. I have been an acupuncture patient for over 4 years. When my previous clinic closed I followed my acupuncturist to Manchester Acupuncture Studio. Over the last year I have been treated by almost every acupuncturist at this clinic and I can honestly say they are all wonderful! I have been treated for a variety of health problems with amazing results. I would highly recommend this clinic and all practitioners!!
