DO NOT BOOK STIVEN. I've been a loyal client of Man Cave for Men for over five years, and I've sent plenty of friends their way. Unfortunately, my recent experience with a barber named Stiven was beyond disappointing, it was infuriating. I arrived early for my appointment, waited patiently even when he was running late, only to be told I was somehow "wasting his time" by taking 2 minutes to show him the reference photos for my haircut. The audacity of being told that after he wasn't ready and I had politely waited for him for over 10 minutes honestly unbelievable. After I called him out on that he got defensive and said he refused to provide service because I was being "difficult"? You fucking kidding me? LOL. I left feeling absolutely livid. A place that hires someone who treats customers like that doesn't deserve my recommendation anymore. I can't in good faith send anyone there after this experience. I just had the worst experience here. I took my 10 year old for a haircut here. We had Daniel cut his hair. He kept asking a lot of questions and asked if we lived here full time. Yes I replied and proceeded to say what school my son goes to. What was he insinuating? When I went to payI then find out that they wouldn't accept the 10% off yelp offer. They never heard of it. That I would have to ask Dan if he would take it because it would come out of his pay. Of course, he says no. I was in luck with location as I was staying at a hotel close by and needed a haircut. I came here not really knowing what to expect as a new spot for a haircut is terrifying. I ended up getting a fairly safe haircut, nothing too adventurous. They did take a bit more off than I was hoping but that was fine. At least my hair wasn't butchered. At both locations they were borderline rude to my son and annoyed that he was fidgeting during his cut (mostly with his legs). Kids fidget. If you don't want to cut kids hair, don't offer a kids cut. Man Cave = Bad shave! I was in need of a shave and thought I would treat myself. It was no treat. First I got cold shaving cream and soon after I was cut twice! I have had dozens of professional shaves and was never once even grazed. This guy cut me twice under both nostrils. I waited to write this because I don't like writing negative posts. After a few days the scabs are still on my face and the cuts were even deeper than I thought. There are better ways to spend $35. Stay away! Okay. Okay. Let me explain how cool it is to get a professional hot shave. But, first, it's important to explain what compelled me to do so ... My sister purchased me a $25 gift card for the ManCave (a Christmas gift) and I certainly had some apprehension at first. Let me declare, forthright, that I'm a very practical guy. I would never spend $35 on a straight-blade shave. Further, I wouldn't at all consider myself to be grouped amongst those men out there willing to pamper themselves, and if I was explaining this to you in person you would politely nod in agreement just by virtue of looking at me. However, my attitude has since changed and if anyone out there wants to stock my wallet with gift cards for this place, I would accept them with graciousness and appreciation. The reason why is simple ... It feels so damn good! When I walked into this place, I had no idea what I was in store for. My master barber, Pedro, was terrific in retrospect. He is trained in this procedure --- straight blade shaving. The lady at the front desk assigned me to his chair and the process quickly began. Prior to the visit, I purposely let my beard grow knowing full well it would get shaved off professionally. Pedro used an electric clipper to minimize my beard to begin with. He shaved the beard and the neck (including the back of the neck). He also trimmed around the ears. Shortly thereafter, he leaned me back in the chair and put a towel over my eyes. He applied a hot towel around the lower portion of my face and around the neck. It was somewhat startling hot. Again, all of this is new to me so veterans of this procedure would accurately be thinking "rookie night." Yep. Indeed. No denying that. Pedro replaced the first hot towel with a second one, and, after about four minutes, he applied what I presume to be a pre-shave lotion. It felt somewhat abrasive. Again, I was somewhat startled as I would be on a roller coaster ride. I had to remind myself not to grip the armrest of the chair so tightly. I have the tendency to do this ... particularly at the dentist's office when I'm getting my teeth cleaned. Pedro completely wrapped my face with another hot towel and let it set for about four minutes. There were other patrons around me receiving a similar treatment. I felt some sort of kinship with them and was comforted by that fact. Meanwhile, across the way, other patrons were getting their hair cut. I could hear all types of conversations going on around me, and as I attempted to relax with that hot towel wrapped tightly around my face, I couldn't help but yearn for a little more peace and serenity. And, just when I found myself distracted, Pedro returned. "Oh shit," I thought. "What's next?" And, sure enough, Pedro managed to shock me again. He applied what felt like red-hot shaving gel, and the appealing aroma of it, coupled with the intense heat, compelled me, once again, to grip the armchair rather tightly. It was a subconscious act and one that I quickly recognized. I released my suction grip of the armrest, and silently scolded myself in the process. Next up? THE STRAIGHT BLADE. Muhahahaha. This is the equivalent of the loop-to-loop section of a rollar-coaster. Pedro tightly gripped my head and began to systematically, in short motions, shave my beard stubble. He would first shave in the direction of the stubble, and then shave in the opposite direction. He did slice away a tiny moll that rested on the right side of my upper lip, I presume on accident. Ah, I didn't want it anyway. I just never had the fortitude to eliminate it myself, so I was internally grateful to Pedro. I felt a trickle of blood, which he quickly dabbed with a hot towel. War wounds! I can live with that. Upon completion of the act of being shaved, Pedro applied what felt like a skin peel. Whatever it was, I could feel it hardening. Pedro took a hair dryer and pointed it on my face. Pedro disappeared for roughly five minutes and, once again, the conversations around me were distracting. My man Mark Tassy gives the best fade and scissor cut I've ever had. I've had my hair cut in multiple states and this man is skilled. He takes pride and pleasure in his cuts as well as his clients. He is a man of integrity and loyalty and I'm definitely loyal to him as my barber. I highly recommend him to anyone. You can go in there and ask him for anything and he can do it. Showed the guy cutting my hair a picture of myself after a hair cut I really liked. He started by using an electric trimmer over the sides and back of my head. Before I could say anything he had already shaved off way too much hair. Then he barely cut the hair on the top of my head. Pros -I got a "hair cut" Cons -started with and primarily used an electric trimmer to cut my hair -my hair is very uneven( about 90% of the hair on the side was cut and at most 20% was cut from the top) -the picture didn't help, my hair before the hair cut was more similar to the picture than it is now -he shaved the back of my neck with shaving cream, I never asked for this nor did I want it I just got the worst hair cut of my life and I have a job interview in a few days. They could give me $100 credit and I still wouldn't go back. read more

My first impression was okay, but before writing a review, decided to visit again. While two visits does not a trend make, it is better than a single point of reference and an opportunity to look for items of consistency. Let's start with the facility. It is okay; nothing special and the greeter did less than offer a friendly greeting both times. During both visits I got a haircut and a manicure. During the second visit I also got a pedicure. The first haircut was average. It was a decent haircut. The second haircut by the same barber was second-rate. Before cutting the barber "washed" my hair. In fact, it was more of a run some shampoo through my hair, rinse it and then get me to the chair. Was wet down my back and water splashed down the front of my shirt. Began to wonder if I resembled a former boyfriend and she was taking it out on me. The barber talked non-stop, and all about her. My fault for not letting her know I view the 20 minutes in the barber chair as a chance to close my eyes and relax. Also, got tired of hearing about how burned out she is of cutting men's hair. Really? Both manicures and the pedicure were professional and first-rate. I would go back to the ManCave just to get a mani and pedi, except for one thing, the constant talk about how she lost her salon. She was nice but again, really? The ManCave for Men seems to hang its brand on being a place where men can get grooming in a manly atmosphere and be offered a beer. That is not enough. With the strong competition for, and strong growth in the men's grooming market, everything about the establishment must make a customer feel like he is visiting a special place and made to feel special. If the owners asked for my advice (which they did not), I would offer: - The first impression is your greeter. She MUST be friendly and engaging. She should try to get to know customers a bit and enter into a conversation. - Tell the staff to keep their mouths shut about negative and private things. The reason they are called personal problems is because you keep them to yourself. You are there to give the best grooming service possible and make the customer feel relaxed and welcomed. - Get more product in the store, have your service staff use and then push the product. Men want more than a haircut, many of them want someone to help them with taking care of themselves. (Oh wait, that might be what a girlfriend or wife thinks they are for.) - Someone should always, always be sweeping and/or cleaning up. Customers visiting what they perceive as a high end place expect the place to be spotless. Too busy to clean? Refer back to my comment about personal problems. Figure it out somehow and keep the place spotless. - Offer the guys something as they head out the door, a bottle of water with ManCave vanity labeling, sample of shave balm, something.
