Open since 1966, this is one of the oldest Italian pizzeria and restaurant in Munich. Surviving 50…read moreyears in a business is commendable and, you have to appeal to enough people to stay afloat. I suppose if you grew up in the area, you would have a connection to this place and, might even go back for old times sake. This place certainly did not do it for me. This place overall was at the most 3 stars perhaps even 2.5 stars for me. The decor is dated and the outdoor sign is simply not inviting enough. I have walked past this places heaps but never wanted to step in. We came here as one of my favorite places across the street was fully packed ;-)) The waiter we had was a bit grumpy and totally uninterested in serving us and, barely smiled, a little bit un-Italian if you ask me ;-)) The food menu is huge here and has a ton of pasta and pizza choices. They have lots of fish and meat dishes and, a daily antipasti bar with a selection of things you can order as starters to share. We decided to share a pizza bread and some mixed bruschetta to start and ,I had the Siciliana pizza for main. The mixed bruschetta was very nice (four different kinds tomato, Parma ham, pickled herring and mozzarella). The taste of the wood fired pizza was ok and nothing special for me. The pizza was a bit chewy and, I finished last at our table, a totally rare occurrence when the food is great. I could barely taste the anchovies and that is totally unusual. They pride themselves on Napoli style pizzas but, it was not as tasty as it looks. The prices here are ok and the wine we had was pretty average as well. I will not miss this place if I never went back. I will however give it another go and see. Munich has no shortage of great Italian places.

This is where I take people if they want the tastiest pizza in Munich. I also am a bit biased because I like a slightly thicker crust than the typical thin Italian crust, and Marios does it perfectly. The interior of the restaurant is a little formal, but works for dinner with friends or going out on a date (just don't get the garlic pizza then). If you want great pizza, then bei Mario will not let you down.
