American skilled -Italian style is their MO. It works! Michaela was incredibly kind & welcoming after a hot morning spent walking. I live in Texas. So I'm proud of our brisket. When I shared my skepticism it was on the menu. She went & got Michele, he was humble but was certain that his brisket could compete. Y'all if you're missing home or even if you're wanting to be wicked surprised come eat here. Everything from the food, service & atmosphere is worthy of respect!

BEC on toasted bagel.

Was so happy we found Mammo. The crowd at breakfast and lunch is made up of college students who are mostly here from US. we enjoyed breakfast here twice and lunch only once. Everything we ordered was really delicious. Had BEC on a bagel, avacado toast with eggs and bacon and California omelet for breakfast. Lunch was chicken salad on a bagel and pulled pork on a bagel. No lunch pics but here are a few from breakfast. Go to Mammo! You won't be disappointed.

Bacon, egg, and cheese with avocado on an everything bagel

As a born and raised New Yorker, there's one thing that will always be a main staple in my diet...bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel. Having been in Rome and a bit home sick after 2 months I found this place like an oasis in a dessert. Thank you Mammò for giving me a taste of home! They had the best bec, bagels and toppings like cream cheese/Philadelphia, avocado, and cheddar. The food was delicious, cheap, and a little bit of NY right in Trastevere.

Stopped in here for a quick breakfast on our last day in Rome and I must say I was surprised but delighted!

We anticipated crowds and a wait, but there was actually no wait at lunch time and there were actually quite a few open tables. That was a bit of a concern at first (because a line and crowd usually means the place is good), but as I saw (and smelled) food coming out my concerns dissipated! Unfortunately our waiter wasn't able to identify another customer's pasta dish for us, but it all worked out in the end because I ended up loving our choices. We got the carbonara, which was cheesy and tasty,...Everything you want a creamy pasta to be! Pasta is al dente, felt so fresh and if you're from America, you're gonna love this because I felt the difference immediately. The meatballs were soft and tasty. We loved the chicory and potatoes! Those potatoes were so good I would choose them over fries (omg so American I know). I got the Mimi's spritz, which tasted like a Aperol spritz. One of my favorite spritz's of the trip! It's true what they say about Italian ingredients, and the price point is great. I tried some of my friend's Italian soda called Chinotto Neri, it's like a cola but less sweet but still tasty and refreshing. Mimi is a dependable pasta spot, with plenty of menu options for pasta and beverages. If I had more time in Rome I would have certainly returned especially given that they have several locations in the city. Highly recommended!

Authentic Rome on a plate worth the wait every single time!…read more This is hands down one of my wife's and my favorite restaurants in Rome. We first discovered Mimi e Coco years ago with friends, and on our most recent trip this fall, we made a point to visit twice. They now have two locations, and while the quality is incredible at both, we personally prefer the original Via del Governo Vecchio location. It was the first one we ever visited, and it just feels the most intimate and special to us. If you are coming from the States, forget what you think you know about Italian food. This isn't the heavy, over-sauced stuff we get back home. This is authentic Roman cuisine: simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The Must-Haves: The Food: You cannot go wrong here, but the Carbonara and the Lasagna are our absolute favorites. They are rich and flavorful without being heavy. The Drinks: Their spritz game is strong. Definitely try the Limoncello Spritz it is the perfect refresher after a day of walking. The Vibe & Logistics: Despite how popular Rome is, this feels like a true local spot rather than a tourist trap. The service is consistently phenomenal warm, welcoming, and fast. However, keep in mind that these are small spots (especially the Governo Vecchio one). I highly suggest making a reservation. If you walk in during rush hour, be prepared for a 30-minute wait (or more), but trust me it is very well worth it. If you want a real taste of Rome, put this at the top of your list!

Eating pizzas, pasta, dolci and drinking italian wine is great, there's no denying that. But once in a while, even when in the very centre of the Italian food empire, you just feel like something different! Smoke Ring is a new trendy american styled dinner with rustic interior and food court-ish styling. They play great american rock (Bruce Springsteen 'the Boss' is all over the place) and serve authentic pork and chicken BBQ with sides of coleslaw, baked beans and/or different sides of potato. You can get yourself a great local beer or the imported stuff, it's up to you to find your favorite amongst a decent selection. Give 'when in Rome' a nuance, try this

All-in-all, this place is different but pretty good! Prices were also good - they basically charge by the rib or piece of chicken. What we ordered: Ribs, chicken thighs, wings and BBQ beans. Verdict: The Ribs were absolutely the best. HUGE and well smoked. They don't really need BBQ sauce, but it makes a good addition. The BBQ sauce is light and different but surprisingly tasty. The chicken was pretty decent. If you want chicken, it'll do the job just fine, but I'd focus on the ribs. The beans were very different, but also pretty good. I'd definitely come back here if I'm in Rome again.

We wanted something basic for dinner, on the last night in Rome on the first leg of my trip. We…read moretried to hit this place that always seemed to have empty tables, but all of the tables were prenoted. We kept on walking up this small street in Trastevere that we hadn't been before, and it was busy on a Fri night. We ran into (The Duke) totally by chance, bc we saw empty tables inside: We were glad we did. For our primo, we shared a raw artichoke heart salad. For our secondi, ITC had the spaghetti guanciale (no pic), and I had the griglia mixta. Lastly, for our dolce we had a fruity dessert. First of all, the raw artichoke was a nice change of pace vs all the fried carciofi we had been eating. It had a nice texture, and the sweetness of the artichoke contrasted nicely w/ the light, slightly tart dressing. ITC really enjoyed her spaghetti bc it had the pork cheek. I had a bite and thought it was better vs the amatriciana she had in Tivoli. The small amount of guanciale was perfectly balanced against the al dente noodles. Thirdly, my dish of grilled meats was about as Roman as you are going to get. The meats were simply seasoned w/ sale & pepe, and came with a lemon to contrast the savoriness of the meat. There was no side, and I didn't eat the bread like most of the trip, bc I didn't want to waste room. Lastly, the light, fruity dessert was a good way to finish a savory meal. Regarding the ambiance, its rustic in here. Many of the patrons were locals, but there were at some Am tourists wearing workout shorts, T shirts and basketball shoes. By the looks of their bodies, their shoes have never touched a court - Ride da Solo (LOL). The service was good, not great. ITC felt our waiter was a little inattentive, even by Italian standards. BTW, tipping is optional in most of Europe. There is no line for a manchia (gratuity) on the check. However, most waiters/waitresses appreciate a €5 or €10 note, depending upon the size of the check. I highly recommend ID if you are looking for rustic Italian food, on a small street in Trastevere that only has foot traffic. The food is really good, and the ambiance is rustic and tranquil.
