Called in here for some coffee today for the first time I'm gradually working my way around every…read morecafe in the area!! It's very clean, with small wooden tables (some square, others round) and wooden chairs, plus a few small armchairs, either leather or faux leather. There are also some high bar stools on the left as you go in, resting against a high counter in the window. It's waitress service, which I hadn't expected you can pay afterwards at the till - and the staff seem very nice indeed. There are attractive pictures on the walls and a blackboard for extras not in the menu. The coffee is excellent and cheaper than in many places I've been recently. A lovely frothy latte in a tall glass, with some butter tablet (a bit like fudge) on the side, is £1.80; an Americano in a large cup, £1.50. There are many other hot drinks available including tea of course, and hot chocolate with marshmallows. You can have breakfast between 8.00am and 12.00, from a cooked full meal to banana toasties; there are many options for light lunches including baked potatoes, panini, and baguettes. There are daily 'specials' at reduced prices, like soup & baguette, or coffee & scone (£1.95) A few more vegetarian options would be nice perhaps a cooked veggie breakfast, or at least some imaginative fillings for the baked potatoes at lunchtime. There seems to be a delicious range of cakes but I didn't try any today! For people in a hurry, there's a service offered where they can place an order by phone and it will be ready to collect or eat in. You'll find the cafe on the corner of the street and there's very good disabled access (including wheelchairs). I'll definitely visit again as the coffee was extremely good!

I had coffee here this morning. The cafe is rather ordinary inside with fixed wooden (or plastic…read morewood?) tables and chairs. You take your table number to the counter to order and the waitress brings the food and drink to the table. It was Beth who served me today and she was very pleasant. The coffees are nice but my large latte had quite a milk skin on it, and no froth, which is very unusual for a 'real' latte. I think it was just boiled milk poured over coffee but it was lovely just the same and came with a tiny biscuit - perhaps a bit expensive at £2.35 however? (A pot of tea was £1.35) I didn't have anything to eat but there were various sandwiches, toasties, panini and baguettes available, also breakfasts, salads, baked potatoes, soup of the day and more. Could definitely do with some more imaginative vegetarian choices. The cakes behind glass looked delicious and you can also buy sweets from the jars behind the counter, or quality chocolates from boxes, which are put into pretty pink bags with the shop's address on a silver sticker. I know all this because, before I left, I succumbed to the chocolate coffee creams and the violet creams (which were gorgeous all gone now!!!) There are various art works by local artists for sale on the walls, which are very attractive. Last food orders need to be taken before 3.00pm. Found in the High Street opposite the John Knox Church.
