I had coffee here today and it was lovely a frothy latte in a tall glass. The Mocha Italian blend is served here and they offer to grind beans for you to take home. Many nice varieties of tea as well, plus luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows, cream and flake (wow!), and iced coffee. There are shelves on the left as you go inside selling various goodies, including dried pasta, biscuits, chilli jams, chutneys and other preserves. In the cafe you can have panini, sandwiches, tortilla wraps, salads, homemade pate, homemade soup of the day, bagels with imaginative fillings (including smoked salmon or banana and cinnamon); you'll find extra meals or snacks on the blackboard at the back of the cafe. Apparently, all produce is locally sourced wherever possible. There are milk shakes available and other soft drinks. There are shelves containing magazines and newspapers, which are free to read, on the left of the counter. I think the tables could be a bit nicer or, if not, then tablecloths would improve them, and the wooden floor is in dire need of a coat of paint as the black paint has mostly worn off and looks very scruffy. It's very clean, with small wooden tables (some square, others round) and wooden chairs, plus a few small armchairs, either leather or faux leather. There are also some high bar stools on the left as you go in, resting against a high counter in the window. It's waitress service, which I hadn't expected you can pay afterwards at the till - and the staff seem very nice indeed. There are attractive pictures on the walls and a blackboard for extras not in the menu. The coffee is excellent and cheaper than in many places I've been recently. A lovely frothy latte in a tall glass, with some butter tablet (a bit like fudge) on the side, is £1.80; an Americano in a large cup, £1.50. There are many other hot drinks available including tea of course, and hot chocolate with marshmallows. You can have breakfast between 8.00am and 12.00, from a cooked full meal to banana toasties; there are many options for light lunches including baked potatoes, panini, and baguettes. There are daily 'specials' at reduced prices, like soup & baguette, or coffee & scone (£1.95) A few more vegetarian options would be nice perhaps a cooked veggie breakfast, or at least some imaginative fillings for the baked potatoes at lunchtime. There seems to be a delicious range of cakes but I didn't try any today! For people in a hurry, there's a service offered where they can place an order by phone and it will be ready to collect or eat in. For a newish sort of place I sure got that old school feel from everything, from the homemade cake display to the staff uniform was old school, a little like the Waverly tearooms. The tables where pre set for diners to sit at that consisted of vintage cutlery to the old 1930's paragon tea set. Friendly staff, great atmosphere accompanied by great value food - as well as a takeaway option. Handy if you are in the town and need time out away from the crowds. (A pot of tea was £1.35) I didn't have anything to eat but there were various sandwiches, toasties, panini and baguettes available, also breakfasts, salads, baked potatoes, soup of the day and more. Could definitely do with some more imaginative vegetarian choices. The cakes behind glass looked delicious and you can also buy sweets from the jars behind the counter, or quality chocolates from boxes, which are put into pretty pink bags with the shop's address on a silver sticker.
