Mango Habanero Ceviche Fried Tilapia Fillet # 6
    Syed Hammad Raza N.

I have had a chance to visit this Mexican seafood restaurant for early dinner on a friend's recommendation. The restaurant is located right next to highway I-45, and has plenty of parking. The ambience gives you the vibes of a mid scale Mexican place, with plenty of servers busy serving their customers. I started off by ordering Mango Habanero Ceviche. The food came out quick. I must say the food, although fresh was VERY hot (due to Habanero peppers) for my taste. I also ordered fried Tilapia, that comes with a side of bun and rice with shrimps. I liked the quality of the food, and it certainly helped me get my taste buds back after the initial burning from the ceviche. One thing missing was the usual salsa and nachos that I've become so accustomed to all the TexMex places. The prices seem to be very reasonable and the service was nice. Overall, I will try this place again.

comida increíble, un servicio excepcional y un ambiente vibrante con excelente música. Los platillos son deliciosos y los empleados son muy atentos.

This was a nice place with a large selection of seafood. Many choices from tacos, gumbos, fried seafood, salads, and more but there could have been more flavoring on the tacos.

Mambo Seafood has some of the freshest seafood I've ever had. Stepping into this wood covered restaurant and looking over their massive menu, you'd think you were somewhere in Galveston. The restaurant is very clean, spacious even when packed & the booths are not crowded. The employees were super pleasant despite being busy. They seemed to be pretty used to the fast pace. We started with the Calamari which were big pieces that were lightly battered. I was glad that they were not overcooked or chewy, they were perfect. We also ordered the Shrimp Scampi & the Mambo Combo. The scampi shrimp were huge & smothered in butter and fresh garlic. The Mambo Combo consists of a stuffed crab, fried fish filets, fried grande shrimp, stuffed shrimp, mambo rice & a salad. The stuffed crab was by far my favorite of this dish. It was packed with so much flavor & filling, truly a must repeat! The fried filets were lightly battered and perfectly flakey. The fried fish was also lightly battered, big in size and cooked perfectly. The stuffed shrimp were massive & were a little spicy. Their rice is pretty famous & for good reason. It's absolutely flavorsome with bite size grilled shrimp. The salad was also appetizing with fresh crunchy lettuce, tomatoes & a big size of jicama. The dishes are fairly priced, we actually expected to pay more than we did. How often does that happen lol... Already planning our next visit!

    OMG Mambo Fried Rice

After doing some business in the Houston area for quite some time, Chas had already stumbled upon Mambo Seafood months prior to this particular trip happening. He actually has a fun story (that we'll perhaps make a video in the near future) about meeting someone there who gave him some guidance on what to order and explained the wonders of the michelada and pushed him to give it a try. The Michelada here is damn good. So...this fried rice..To say this is a side dish is comical and honestly ridiculous to me...but we (as a group of three people) ordered the SMALL order of the Pork Fried Rice and lo and behold, this is what we received. So if you cannot tell already, Mambo is a seafood restaurant that is heavily influenced by Spanish cuisine. So all I can think of is we are in a Seafood restaurant with many Spanish folks having a meal, with many Spanish influenced foods/drinks, with many employees speaking Spanish...and I just had the best Asian pork fried rice of my life. This rice was INSANELY flavorful. Very fresh scallions, HUGE and tender chunks of very well seasoned pork, moist and airy rice...this dish is seriously just such a win. This dish was seriously somewhere in the ballpark of $6.50 ... like ... for the WHOLE thing. You must (must...like you cannot pass on this) try out Mambo's famous rice! Ahhh yes, now for what we've all been waiting for! The Mambo style shrimp is listed on the appetizer menu, but this is a MEAL, and should be treated as a meal. You order in increments of ten and you can add potatoes and corn as well. This is like most any shrimp or seafood boil you've ever had but the spices/seasonings are just so on point. There is a very heavy presence of garlic (which I LOVE) and I guarantee you'll be using every piece of food in the general area to try and soak up as much of this sauce as possible. I believe we ordered twenty shrimp with corn and potatoes, add that to the rice and the empanada appetizer and you nearly had to ROLL us out of this place! Each order of ten shrimp was somewhere in the ballpark of $9. SUPER affordable, and incredibly delicious. You can barely get a "value meal" at drive-thru fast food chains for that price at this point. Mambo Seafood was a victory in all things flavor. I had this place built up to me by multiple people for months and it still delivered and did not disappoint. The drinks were good, business was booming, fast service, friendly and helpful wait staff, the empanadas were tasty, quite honestly potentially the best fried rice we've ever had, and the shrimp was so fresh and so flavorful all while being very affordable. You'll be doing yourself a disservice in you skip this place when traveling to the Houston area.

A place I grew up in as a little girl in Beaumont but never have I've visit this "original" location. Stepping in to this spot felt like a restaurant in the country of Mexico. I ordered the El Henry. I absolutely loved my dish, only thing I would've chance was the cheese enchilada definitely would've swap for a chicken or beef one, or maybe even a flaunta. I really like the Mexican rice, it had little potatoes and carrots in it. Some of the best Mexican yellow rice I've had. They offer a cinco de mayo drink special. The only thing that seem to make it special was the drinks apparently were limited edition menu items. Nothing was special about the prices. The regular menu drinks were a dollar(s) less. The margarita I ordered first was peach coconut. I didn't taste the coconut at all. I swap for the peach strawberry ($14 or 15) which was great, sweet& strong. One did me just right. You get to select up to two flavors for additional $2 (for both verse each, that's a plus. Not worded on menu). If you select a third flavor an additional $2 would be added ($4 in total) I appreciate separate tickets provided after confirmation and no additional gratuity automatically added, which he got tip equally the same or more. When asked about the "empty" patio that was available, he informed us that the entire deck was reserved. Upon departing I noticed from the parking lot individual tables, of separate parties were occupying only 3 tables. It was 8 of us sitting at 2 tables. Which the table was pushed up against the wall, and one side was inaccessible, which took away spacing. Service was lovely space was really tight. Good thing some of the ladies didn't order full meals. Definitely wouldn't have been able to fit every plate.

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

The "queso" w/carne seemed to be out of a can-it was orange & didn't have the consistency of real cheese- wasn't really cheese & was disgusting. It was $9.99. I am including a photo of the overcooked beef fajita. A senior citizen can get the all beef lunch fajita special for virtually the same price as the fajita combo here ALL DAY at Pappasitos. It definitely is enough for 2. The meat melts in your mouth. EVERYTHING is better quality than here. Teo charged $1.50 for perhaps 4 or 5 slices of lime to make the happy hour margaritas made with a gross mix drinkable. That's outrageous. It reminds me that I had stopped going long ago when they charged extra for onions on enchiladas. Come on. You don't charge extra for chopped onions! I have never been to another restaurant that does so. Some even provide carmelized grilled onions gratis. I'm convinced that a $15. YUMMY mango margarita at Pappasitos would have given us the same buzz & tasted better than 8 happy hour margaritas here. I used to love the in house made flour tortillas at Teo. Tonight they were tough & uneventful. We arrived on a week night when they were not busy. (NOTE: ONLINE MENU ISNT COMPLETELY UP TO DATE)…read more First time here and had a great brunch experience! My husband's cousin raved about having dinner here the week prior so we decided to try out the Sunday brunch. My husband and I were somewhat skeptical at first based off of the photos. This is not our typical Mexican food. The plates looked a lot smaller online, but I am so glad we tried it because it was delicious!! To start we had a few drinks: 1. Flor de Fuego - it tasted like agua de jamaica with a splash of citrus, in my opinion it was very refreshing 9/10 2. Frozen Margarita - my husband's cousin ordered this in a yeti tumbler, he said the margarita was really good except it was a bit hard to drink since it was frozen the whole time lol 8.5/10 ***tumbler was an additional cost. It is a 16oz yeti. They do offer $10 refills anytime you bring the cup back 3. My husband drank a pacifico. Classic beer. They offered it in both bottle and in glass. 9/10. 4. Carafe mango mimosa - this served about 4 drinks total. It was very champagne forward with the tiniest amount of juice 7.5/10 APPETIZERS: 1. Housemade Bacon w/ Salsa Ranchera - in my opinion this was DELICIOUS. The salsa on this was amazinggg. This dish also comes with a side of authentic flour tortillas. 10/10 2. Tiradito de Hamachi - meh, it was good but wouldn't order again. It literally just tasted like strawberries with a salty aftertaste. We really wanted the aguachiles but they were no longer on the brunch menu. 6.5/10 3. Enfrijoladas - surprisingly this had a lot of flavor, it was paired with the same salsa at the bacon 10/10 ENTREES: 1. Ensalada de cesar - pretty solid, very lemony 8/10 2. Steak and eggs - this was really good, i would say that the steak looked a lot bigger online but it was still overall a delicious filling dish 9.5/10 3. Chilaquiles Divorciados - Probably my favorite thing on the menu. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS WITH THE BARBACOA! It had so much flavor to it and the barbacoa just melts in your mouth 10/10 4. Bacon Burrito - the other couple ordered this and said they enjoyed it, we all expected it to be a lot bigger though 8/10 DESSERT: 1. Tres Leches - the jam on this wasnt my favorite. It was very overpowering. The cake itself was really good. Would order again with fresh strawberries, no jam 7.5/10 2. Banana Pudding Bunelo - its your typical bunelo with a small amount of banana cream filling, topped with homemade banana ice cream 7.5/10 3. Masa Pancake - I am not the biggest fan of pancakes so I didn't try it but the other couple enjoyed it OVERALL: 9/10 experience!!! Total for our portion (Hamachi, 2 drinks, salad, steak, chilaquiles, and tres leches) came out to a total of about $120. We Will definitely be coming back to try out their dinner menu. Unfortunately, we were told that the green spaghetti is no longer on the menu !!!!

Parking ended up being easier than expected because we got lucky and found a spot at one of the neighboring businesses. To start, we ordered a few aguas frescas and the papas bravas. The aguas frescas were probably my first sign that this meal was not going to go the way I expected. Instead of tasting like traditional aguas frescas -- sweet, refreshing, and fruit-forward -- they tasted more like an Erewhon-style "healthy" remake. They were pretty to look at, but practically flavorless. I genuinely couldn't tell the difference between the strawberry and mango versions. The papas bravas, however, were actually good. They were seasoned well and cooked nicely. The prosciutto caught me off guard because the texture was closer to jerky than what I expected, but flavor-wise it was fine. The real issue came with the entrées. We ordered the mole quiche, chilaquiles, and steak & eggs. The chilaquiles were honestly such a letdown. They were plated beautifully, but the flavor completely lacked depth. I couldn't tell you the difference between the red and green chilaquiles because neither really tasted like anything. Most of the flavor on the plate came from the egg, avocado, and pickled onions. The barbacoa itself was okay -- it's hard to ruin barbacoa unless you completely overcook it. I love chilaquiles and I'll fully admit I'm a snob when it comes to them, but somehow this restaurant managed to make one of the most flavorful comfort foods taste bland. The mole quiche felt like "innovation" for the sake of innovation. In my opinion, mole and quiche simply do not pair well together. The dish was soggy and unpleasant to eat, and the mole itself lacked the richness and complexity that makes authentic mole special. It just tasted bland. The steak & eggs could've been good had the server asked how we wanted the steak cooked. I enjoy medium rare when it's a high-quality cut, but on a tougher cut of steak, it just doesn't work as well -- and my father definitely wasn't a fan either. The one redeeming part of the meal was the Banana Pudding Buñuelo. That dessert was genuinely good. The banana pudding and ice cream both had great flavor, and the texture of the buñuelo itself was really nice. I can't say anything negative about the service. Our waitress was kind and attentive throughout the meal, and someone who I believe was the manager was also very warm and friendly. Overall, I'm mostly just frustrated by how disappointing the food was. I came in expecting an elevated, memorable brunch experience and left wishing I had just made reservations at Xochi, Caracol, or honestly stayed home and had my mom make chilaquiles instead. That said, I may come back eventually to try their tasting menu because at this point I'm determined to understand why so many people rave about this place.

In addition to this, there can be a significant 2-4 hour wait to get seated during peak hours. However, all of the customers I spoke with stated that once you were able to sit down, the overall experience was worth waiting for. The main feature that makes Doña Leti's stand out from other restaurants is its focus on tradition in terms of how the food is made. Each dish has very unique flavors. The dishes are also very large portions and offer a great amount of comfort while still being high end. Additionally, the drink offerings are an excellent choice. They are made with the same attention to detail as the meals, and add to the flavor and enjoyment of your meal. The staff provides exceptional service even though the establishment is full. The staff keeps up with the large number of people coming in and out with a sense of professionalism and friendliness. One thing that Doña Leti's does exceptionally well is provide a lot of food for the price. As long as you don't mind waiting for your table, you will have a wonderful dining experience. The fact that Doña Leti's is so busy is proof that the service, food and drinks are all good, and well worth the wait

No other French toast will come close. Their homemade sauces make more tantalizing. If you like salty spicy, get the jojo sauce. I don't think it's on the menu And to finish, personally I like cocktails but their fresh filled churros are super fun. And can't beat the fresh factor! Brandon is an excellent attentive server. He knows the menu in and out. He'll steer you right. It's a neighborhood gem

A Cali girl-lala enjoying some Tex Mex…read more While in HTX I was able to meet up with a friend from college. He mentioned margaritas (not pictured) and food! So we met at Candente. Upon walking in the restaurant was clean it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but the aroma of the food! OMG! Our server was really nice and patient because my friend and I talked for about 30 minutes before we finally ordered our food. He has the beef enchiladas with rice and black beans. He cleaned his plate...literally not a grain of rice in sight! I had the smoked chicken verde enchiladas and WOW! What an amazing dish. I consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur especially being from California. I have always said Tex Mex?.....eeeeyuck! But Candente has changed my tune! I will definitely be back to visit when I return!

Glowing red. Burning. Candente…read more Let me start by saying that I'm not into Mexican food unless it's an auntie or grandma making it at their house. I prefer traditional homemade Mexican food but here we are. (Oh I googled and suggested this place lol) Went in for a team lunch on a Friday. Coworker's birthday lunch and she wanted Mexican. Party of 9 and we were seated promptly. They have a lunch menu and a happy hour as well as a full menu and full bar. The interior was nicely decorated. And open. There is bar seating and patio seating as well. Our waitress was Aisha and she was amazing. Friendly, helpful and patient. And able handle our large group and a few more tables with a smile. There were a variety of options. Salads, fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, etc. Also complimentary chips and salsa. My Order: chicken tortilla soup, lunch fajitas combo - chicken and beef. Chicken tortilla soup (3.5/5) - it was a bit salty for me but I am not a salt person so most things are salty to me; everyone else said it was tasty, there were tons of shredded chicken, avocado pieces, tortilla strips Fajitas - combo (4/5) - chicken was seasoned well and the beef (medium rare) was perfection and so tender and juicy, mexican rice was fluffy, and normally I would pass on the beans and get extra rice but my coworker suggested the charro beans and wow, that was a win - the seasoning was great, there were chunks of meat and the texture was nice, the only thing that could have been done better is the flour tortillas - they over-charred them making them too crispy and left them with a burnt taste. A couple of people got the elote salad and raved about it. So that will be a next time try. Def will be back. Everyone enjoyed their meals and some even ordered food to go. Would recommend.
