We began working with Greyscale Architecture, Inc. in the spring of 2024, and are still working with them, as of the writing of this review. It's been an interesting (and at times quite challenging, lol) road to navigate, but the bottom line is this: we are VERY grateful to have selected Grayscale as our architect, as they have done an all-around outstanding job.
When we interviewed architects and draftspeople for the job of redesigning and building our ADU, and also designing and building a large accessory workshop on our property, we were very impressed by Jarod Heath, Greyscale's Project Manager. He was friendly, efficient, professional, and everything else you would be looking for. But, and this was only for budgetary reasons, we ended up initially going with a cheaper option (a draftsman, not an actual architect), who had also bid on the job. In retrospect, this was clearly a mistake on our part. The draftsman was slow to turn things around, didn't communicate well, didn't know all the relevant building codes, etc. So, fairly early on into our project, we made the switch to Greyscale, and the difference between the two providers has been night and day. Greyscale is simply a professional operation, with all that that entails. They work fast, communicate well, know their stuff, strive to make the customer happy, know how to manage the arduous permit process, are conscious of their client's budget, have plenty of experience to draw from, and so on and so forth.
Perhaps what has impressed us most about the whole team at Greyscale is actually not just their technical know-how, but their commitment to doing right by the client. Specifically, at one point during the permit approval process, there was a discrepancy about what exactly should have happened, who was responsible for what, why the design for our project hadn't yet been approved--that sort of thing. We, the clients, were unhappy. And rather than finding a way out of it, or just chalking it up to the cumbersome permit process, Nick Oushakoff (Owner / Architect) brought us in, and insisted on making things right. We won't get into all the details of this arrangement, but suffice to say, it was very generous and professional how Greyscale chose to handle the matter.
The point is this, and we really can't emphasize it enough: there will be challenges along this road--whatever your project, whomever you choose--so you will be very glad to have a professional operation like Greyscale working beside you. To summarize, we would recommend Greyscale to anyone seeking a very honest and highly competent architect to get their design and building done right.
And finally, if you would like to hear more about our design and building experience, or discuss any other aspect of our working relationship with Greyscale, please do not hesitate to message us. Thank you.
