Not a bad latte here, and with the big bonus that it's not a 'chain' cafe, so prices are rather more modest - for example, a bacon and egg baguette with a tea or coffee is £3.95. Friends working nearby are regular users. They have seating inside and out and, while the view isn't very exciting, it is right next to the Church Street stop of Croydon Tramlink.

The drinks menu is impressive with a full selection of coffee and tea drinks throughout the day, and a well-rounded cocktail menu for the evening drinkers. A simple selection of sandwiches and pastries are also available during the day. I can vouch for their turkey and cheese panini, as well as their lattes. Both are delicious and fairly-priced, despite being located in such a trendy spot for tourists and local workers, alike. As to the cocktails, I can't say much, though they do have discounted drinks- if you order 2 of the same one- after 5PM. And, honestly, I'm down with any place that has a good Espresso Martini on the menu. If you're going during the evening on the weekend, make sure you call ahead and make a reservation. They tend to get packed.

Woodbridge Cafe is a neighbourhood breakfast and lunch diner that seems to be well-established in…read morethe community. I had breakfast on a few weekdays and the weekend, first ordering the breakfast specials (bacon, sausage, eggs), and gradually selecting smaller combinations to reduce the quantity of food to start the day! Every breakfast was cooked to order freshly, and was served piping hot within a few minutes. Having chips for breakfast somehow seems wrong, so I ordered and enjoyed the sauteed potatoes (and skipped toast, as loading on too many starches). The layout has a series of long tables with chairs, and a few seats at the window to look out onto the street. The clientele included a lot of workmen. Some ordered breakfast to be eaten right away, and then a sandwich as takeout, presumably for lunch. The posters of winners and losers for competitive eating -- the Mega Breakfast, and Burger Challenge -- were entertaining. They also reflect the good humour of the staff, continuously circling amongst the mostly quiet customers. I was staying at the Acacia Villas across the street, and stopped by on a few mornings on the way to the university. This place starts early in the day, and was closed by the late afternoons on my return.

What I love here is the good old fashioned 'greasy spoon' workers cafe atmosphere (not that it's greasy but you get my point). Drive past on a weekday morning and you will spot a sprawl of illegally parked work vans surrounding the small hut-like cafe. The service is friendly, the tables are clean and the food is delicious. There is a lot on the menu to choose from but I've honestly never given it a second look the only thing I ever go for is the biggest cooked breakfast on offer. Definitely worth a visit no matter what your walk of life also a good place to stop in for a cuppa!

There are better branches around to sit down and linger in, but if you want a quick stop off on the way to work, its perfect!

It looked like a proper independent coffee house where I might be able to get a decent espresso to drink in on a weekend or take away on my way to work. How wrong I was. The coffee is burnt. The pastries are taken out of their plastic packets and then left to go stale. The takeaway cups leak spectacularly. Oh, and staff who ask if you'd like sugar. What's that about? If I want it, I'll put it in myself, thanks. All in all, a total disappointment. The walk to the DLR is now made worse by the sight of what COULD have been a great addition to a morning routine.

But, the best way have things improve is to talk to the owners; I'm sure they're more interested in building their business than serving burnt coffee. Imagine if no-one ever said anything and they closed down without ever knowing why. I didn't much rate watching Cheryl Cole fighting for her love on the hig-mounted tv, but then again the locals aren't just us new urbanites and some people, inexplicably, like telly in their lives. But it wasn't loud. It is nice & moderrn inside and it's friendly. I quite liked being asked if I wanted sugar; being served is sometimes nice and I can cope with someone doing it for me. And if you don't take sugar it makes absolutely no difference anyway. The chavs would steal the daintily wrapped sugars!
