Handing my 50 euro bill felt ripped off since it was not worth it. The Asian waitress has an attitude when servicing us. I really regret leaving a tip once I walked out the restaurant. Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Coming from Vancouver, a spot with lots of delicious dim sum places, I wasn't sure how I would find the food at this place across the world, but I was craving it enough to try! We walked over on a Friday night and almost didn't go in because it looked like it was closed from the outside, but it's actually open, just super dark on the inside! It was extremely busy and since we didn't have a reservation the only spots available for the two of us were at the bar which we didn't mind. To start, I ordered the garlic bok choy and got the veggie dim sum as my main. The starter was delicious! As for the dim sum, it was pretty good too! Another really cool item on the menu was the vegan hot pot which I've never seen anywhere else and would have loved to try but you can't order it if you're sitting at the bar. The service was overall really friendly, even though it was a bit delayed, but this seems to be the norm in Vienna so nothing atypical. As for the ambiance, it's a pretty big restaurant and I like the fact that it is dark, but it was a smidge TOO dark because we had to use the light from our phones to be able to read the menu. Overall this spot is a nice dim sum place if you're looking for one in Vienna! I definitely recommend making a reservation though since it gets busy! read more

Literally as good as it gets, flavorful, delicate, tender home cooked food! I am not personally familiar with what Authentic Asian Cuisine is, but this place and the food here seemed to be what I would be eating if Mama Liu cooked for me in her own home. (I mean this both in terms of what I ate, and the quality of preparation) Rather than have large portions, this location offers smaller more tapas-style portions where you can try many items on the menu. I would caution against sharing meals here though. If you are sharing with one person, it might work, but not more. When I was here, I had one of the soups, tripe, and I believe the "Hong You Zhao Shou" (spelled this way on German menu, likely same on English menu) - they are Pork and Shrimp filled Won Tons in peanut sauce. I also had the ginger tea, and for dessert what I think were stuffed rice balls filled with black sesame paste rolled in coconut. Tea came in a glass container, and was allowed to steep right before you. Rather than give you a five cent packet of tea for much more money, the tea is loose leaf, and I am sure the tea is blended here. Everything I had was superb. The small portions mean that there is much more effort devoted to quality as opposed to quantity. This means that everything was well balanced in terms of flavors. I liked the simplicity of the soup, it was not overfilled with ingredients, but it was far from a flavored broth. I did encounter a tiny piece of cartilage, or bone, or shell, or something in the soup, but it was the size of a course grated piece of salt. I realize that this is inevitable in home cooking, and did not penalize them. Tripe was very simple also. I have to admit that I did not particularly like it, but this was not due to the dish being bad, I just didn't like tripe in this preparation (never had it before). It was delicate and the flavor was very mild, allowing the gentle texture and flavor of the tripe to not be blocked by extraneous elements. If this dish were a large portion, then I would penalize for this. However, seeing as how you are supposed to order many small dishes, this would be one of the simpler ones. The Won Tons were one of the bolder dishes I ordered, but was still somehow delicate. The won tons were steamed to keep the dough soft as could be without having it immediately fall apart. The filling was gentle and flavorful, as was the peanut sauce. Everything in this dish came together nicely. I also liked how mild the peanut sauce was, so mild I didn't recognize the peanut flavor (I neglected to read the peanut part off the menu) The desert was... you guessed it... tender and flavorful. I like that this dish was sweeter than I've encountered most desserts in Vienna, it was however not overwhelmingly sweet, and did not lose the sesame and coconut flavors within. Service was quick and very nice. Very uncommon for the check to be presented, and I was allowed to pay into the little booklet, where the server picks it up and processes payment. What a delightful new find! A modern Chinese restaurant for young professional people. We got a selection of 5 appetizers which the seaweed salad was my favorite. Then we shared a seafood hotpot with two different broths - one was tomato the other coconut curry. The tomato was nice and mild. The other was more pungent. It is some 'work' - like a fondue - but a lot of fun! An interactive dinner! Service was fast and super friendly. The interior is exposed brick and modern furniture. There are individual but also communal tables. There were no families so it was a perfect date spot for a quiet romantic evening! Huge plus: the entire restaurant is non smoking. The mix dim sum basket was fabulous. Ordered it steamed. Also added a side of fried jiao zi. Don't know which I will order next time as both were perfectly prepared. The hot pot was fun to try. Ordered the Scharfe ma la Suppe, the waiter warned me it would be spicy. I've been warned of hot food all over this bland city so scoffed to myself about the heat...people: they actually delivered! Probably the best meal I had while in Vienna. The service was the most attentive I've experienced in Europe, with wait staff coming by constantly to check on the meal and see if you need anything. The food was epic. We had three starters to kick things off, followed by a dinner made up of multiple plates of dim sum dumplings. Every single item was a winner. I found this restaurant by chance during my walk around the market. This restaurant is great for overall, nice decoration with the modern industrial looked. Seats are well arranged for the food they served. Food are also good. They have home made dim sum which is ok for me compare to my hometown dim sum, Bangkok. I had the hotpot which is blow my mind. Grading on a curve - compared to other Asian restaurants in Vienna - Mama Liu & Sons deserves a 5 star rating! I go there for dumplings, dim sum, flat-breads and more dumplings! All of the previously mentioned usual suspects are fresh and home-made and simply delicious. Combined with the house sauce (soy based with a slight kick), every dish that I tasted - and I had every dumpling on the menu - bursts with flavor. Excellent! Yes, yes, yes. We are huge fans of the dim sum and small dishes here. I am always really impressed with the flavours. The menu seems to change slightly quite often...Some dishes are gone all of a sudden, others are new. My favourites: seaweed salad, cold rice noodles in peanut sauce, beef tartar and the shrimp and wild garlic dumplings. Still haven't tried the hot pot (I always get distracted by the dim sum and small dishes instead) but have heard good things. Great food to share in a group. Service is good. I wanted to love it here, I really did. Hot Pot is one of my favorite things in the world and I have eaten a lot of it. My review is based solely on the hot pot portion of the menu. I'm used to heaping portions of veg, lots of dipping sauce choices, freshly sliced (in front of you) meat, beautiful broths, everything fresh & abundant. Instead I found a lacking impression of these things, with a price tag to match the disappointment. This place did hot pot before it became mama liu and I liked it better, but it still missed the mark. Hot Pot is = a mealtime of infinite possibilities, you start with a broth, choose your ingredients, then you and your friends let loose creating your one of a kind meal. It's healthy, social, affordable, and different every time. The broth I tried here is overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time, oily and lots of heat in the chili but not much else. The meat is ok, the service is nice but a bit scattered. They have taken the creativity of it away a bit and replaced it with a hip new facade to make it exciting. Why didn't you guys go for fair prices and authentic Chinese hot pot? Two stars because it wasn't terrible and the staff were friendly. read more

The former restaurant Liounge is gone to make place for an other type of Asian restaurant! It's modern, simple in the decor but certainly not on the plate!... The food there is definitely very, very good. They have a daily menu as well as several small and big dishes to combine according to your taste, in the tradition of the Chinese lunch/dinner. The dim sums are particularly yummy, the dough is cooked perfectly and the feelings full of Asian flavors... the best i have eaten in Vienna so far! In the evening, you can also order a Hot Pot: you cook your own ingredients in the hot soup that you ordered and served in front of you (in a pot!). A very healthy and tasty way of eating :) I didn't particularly like the settings to be honest (quite dark) and it may be a bit more expensive than it usually is in Asian restaurant... but the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff and the tempting menu made me forget about it! read more

Since I have heared so ,amy stories about the place I was a bit dissapointed by it after all. The restaurant is classy, chique and the service was excellent, but the food was really nothing special!! The hot pot is entertaining, but thats about it, The tast was not overwhealming, it was not bad either, but just according to the reputation I was expacting something more special. I had a rice with chicken and WOK vegtables, had better ones at asian food stands, again not bad, but nothing I would go specially there. The dumplings tasted also OK, but here again, you can get better ones. What they had and was really surprisingly good was a rose schnaps! If you are there and even if you don't like schnaps, you should get one! Its worth a shot ;) In the end the prices are really high for such an average food, but the environment is nice... read more

Talk about sheek Chinese food! The place is quite the enigma with its blacked out windows and curtained entrance - dining here is like sitting in on an exclusive cuisine experience. While the restaurant's main attraction is its hotpot, we did not make a reservation and therefore dined at the bar, which did not take away from the experience at all! The wait-staff is prompt and friendly, catering to our every needs. My vegetarian friends had no trouble working with the menu, as it is also filled with multiple vegetarian dishes. To be honest, I was a little skeptical at first about the authenticity of the dishes (as someone who's dined high and low in China), but it was a welcome surprise how on-point the flavors were - not too salty or greasy. I recommend the pork dumplings, Chinese pancakes and ABSOLUTELY the squid rice bowl...the spices (numbing style) erupt in your mouth and put you in a state of utter content. Perhaps I'm just partial as a rice lover... To top that off, definitely add a cocktail to your meal. The cocktail with ginger hits the spot and adds a refreshing element that balances out the infused spices within the dish. read more

Be very careful of your credit card. I felt the waiter intentionally try to keep our card because we are not Austrians. This was what happened. Last night we went to the Resturant to have dinner. We give the waiter our credit card as US custom. We did not get our card back after the receipt was back. I questioned the owner, and the waiter came by and drop the card next to my seat and said here is your card and point at the bench next to me. It is not possible for him to see the card because the bench is black, and the card is dark blue chase united mileage card. The more I think about it, the more I felt the store is not honest. Nice hip ambient. The tapas equivalent of Chinese food. The clienteles are mostly young non-Asian. It's definitely more style than substance. Food is on the salty side, especially the braised tofu. This was a fun and tasty dining experience. We couldn't get a reservation on a Saturday night so we showed up at about 7:45p.m. We had to wait over an hour but we strolled up and down the street and window shopped which passed the time quickly. We sat at the bar upon our return and ordered one of the custom cocktails which were very generous in serving size. We were seated at one of the communal tables and began to order various items from the menu. We probably over ordered -as the portion sizes were large, however, we were pleased with every item! If you order one of the bowls that cooks at your table-beware-it's huge! Great for sharing. Our waitress spoke pretty good English but the actual food servers did not-so we weren't absolutely sure about exactly which dish we were eating (and I'm pretty sure we ended up with orders from others at the table) but everything was absolutely delicious!
