Salad, with Blue Cheese Dressing: Though it was weird looking (croutons in on corner, shredded cheese in a straight line, and diced tomatoes in the other corner), the greens were fresh and crisp. And, the cheese and tomato tasted fresh, too. The Blue Cheese Dressing was fantastic! I haven't tasted such good dressing in years. 5 Stars Hot Wings: Whoa! I don't think I've ever seen such small drumettes. And, many of the wings were in a near L shape, vs being tucked together. While tasty, unfortunately, I found the drumettes to be quite dry, and a bit tough. As was the wing tips. But, the wing bases were what I'm use to. 3 Stars Cajun Shrimp Pasta: Oh, my word! Talk about a scrumptiouselious dish! While the pasta did stick a little (could be due to delivery), this was fantastic! The Cajun spice was just hot enough to let you know it. But, not so much where it blew the top of your head off. Or, having to guzzle water to put the fire out. 5 Stars And, between the wings, salad and entree, I got enough for 2 dinners, and a lunch. 8-) So, despite the wings being a let down, I'm very pleased with this place. And, for sure, I'll order from them again.

It's nothing fancy, the cafe is in what looks like a redone modular home. You order your meat and two sides at the counter and get your own drinks. The iced tea was good. There are two long tables in the center so you eat family style but on the Sunday afternoon we went we were the only ones at one of the tables. They were doing a brisk takeout business. The lady who waited on us was very nice. My DD got the grilled pork chop, black eyed peas and macaroni and cheese with a hoe cake. I had pulled turkey with dressing and turkey gravy, sweet potato casserole and collards with a roll (I should have picked the hoe cake). Everything was fabulous with special accolades to the black eyed peas, the mac & cheese and the collards. There were lots of choices too with everything from fried shrimp to chitterlings and ox tails. If you find yourself in Eatonton and you like a meat and two sides search out Ms. Stellas, you won't be sorry.

There were plenty other options in both the special and cooked-to -order menu, I just don't remember them all. There were about 8-10 yummy sides to choose from. I had meat-loaf with brown gravy (could have been ketchup), collard greens, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and cornbread. I enjoyed it all. My companion had a fried pork-chop and it looked delicious. He seemed very pleased. It's a small old building that's kinda out of the way. It doesn't look like much from the road. If you happened to be driving on its back road you could easily miss it if you weren't looking for it. Found with Apple Maps. It was counter service. Small dining room. It was clean as far as I could tell. Single bathroom was old but well maintained. They had several takeout orders while I was there at late lunch time. The dining room was pretty full with three groups including mine. My only criticism was the fountain drinks were very limited. There were no diet sodas. There was unsweet tea available though.

If you are in a hurry (such as after shopping, or only 30 minutes for lunch), DO NOT come here when they first open (not everything is ready; Corned Beef and Cornbread wasn't out; Cornbread came out about 15 minutes after I got there). Or, are serving the lunch crowd. I got here right at 11:00, and there were 8 people in front of me (1 had 3 orders). And it took nearly 20 minutes before I got to the register. I just hope my few perishables didn't parish during this time + the drive back to my apartment. For dinner, I picked up a repeat review of Baked Chicken, Blackeye Peas, Squash Casserole with a roll (since the cornbread wasn't out yet, I order a yeast roll). And, a slice of Pecan pie (though, the filling seems to be less than the 1st time I had it). But, while I was still in line, the cornbread came out. And, I was able to swap the rolls. When I got back to my apartment, I put the food into storage containers. And, the Chicken just fell off the bones Since, everything is a repeat, I expect it all to be just as good as before. So, I won't update this review, unless something causes me to downgrade it.

It's been several months since I've gotten a pizza from here…read more When I walked in, there was no-one behind the counter. So, after waiting a minute, or 2, I stepped through the Employees Only, and hollered, Anyone here!? No answer. So figuring the prep person was in the bathroom, I sat down to wait. One nice thing that COVID has brought, the aluminum tables and benches, have been stacked to one side. And, they have padded chairs about 6 feet apart. Well, after another 3 minutes of waiting, someone from the Parent Company, Octagon Cafe, came over to wait take my order. Again, it's still advertised but not offered, is the Thin crust pizza. So, since I had a fresh 12 pack of beer, just begging to have pizza to go with it, ;-) I decided on a pepperoni pan pizza. Well, the CSR had to go back across the entrance, to get the pan of dough. :-o While the pizza was good, it didn't turn out great. Apparently, someone didn't spray enough oil on the bottom pan to allow it easy separation. And, because I didn't want the pizza cut (they have a 8-slice cutter), but the cutter hadn't been cleaned after the last use. So, not knowing how long it had been, I ended up bringing the pie pan home. So, now, I'll have to make another stop to return the bottom. And, after all that fighting, the topping had shifted, making for a lopsided pizza. At least I didn't have to pay a tip (I went to add it to the credit card receipt, but she told me not to worry about it). After getting back to my place, and when it was time to cut, and heat, the desired number of slices (3 of 16), I too, had to fight to get the pizza slices off the pan. To be honest, while the price is hard to beat, after today's episode there, I'm not sure if I'll go back, or not.

Best kept secret down this stretch of the South might just be Peggy's fried chicken…read more Now, a great many places have the confidence to fry a bird. That is not the same as knowing what they're doing. Plenty can make chicken hot. Fewer can make it memorable. Peggy's managed the rarer thing. This was the kind of fried chicken that makes a man quiet for a minute and reconsider whether he has properly valued his past blessings. They had other meats on the menu, and I do not doubt they were prepared by decent people with honest intentions, but ordering anything besides the fried chicken would have felt like showing up at a revival and asking for directions to a yoga class. And the sides, Lord help me, the sides were no afterthought. If I had not attended the funerals myself, I might have suspected my great grandma, grandma, and momma were back there in the kitchen, keeping an eye on the pots. Forgive me, Mammaw G, Mammaw, and Mom, but Peggy's had the better day with that chicken. I say that with love, respect, and a willingness to dodge a lightning bolt if one has been set aside for me. Fried okra, green beans, sweet potatoes, and mac and cheese, which any Southerner with good sense knows is a vegetable when it needs to be, spread across our plates like a family reunion of the righteous. The only medical advisory I'd offer is this: if your doctor has warned you against coating your insides with salt, you may want to admire from a respectful distance. And the sweet tea was right. Not tea-flavored water with ambition. Sweet tea. Properly made. The sort that lets you know nobody in the building is interested in modern nonsense. Next time I'm rolling down I-20, I may well make the turn toward Wrens again just to see whether Peggy's can do it twice. But judging by the regulars, the handshakes, the easy way the staff knew folks by name, and the fact they made us feel halfway local ourselves, I'd say this was no one-off. This felt less like a lucky meal and more like the kind of place that still believes doing something well is reason enough to keep doing it.

My grandson and I were hungry so we scurried over to get a place to go because they close at 8:30. We were kindly greeted and informed that the cooks have left the building but they had buffet style. The server came out and prepared our to go plates with care. We ordered sweet ice teas, had great conversation and I'm out merry way. I had Chuck beef over rice, candied yams, lima beens and a biscuit. OMG the food was as it should be, comfort food. Every bite was delicious and that biscuit melted in my mouth. The ice tea was perfectly crafted. My grandson had fried chicken in Mac n Cheese. He didn't expound in its taste but he gobbled it up with no complaints. I would say that he enjoyed it. I know the locals enjoy this restaurant because it seems like Peggy's is a staple in the community. It's too bad that I won't be back here but I am glad that I supported this restaurant rather than going to a fast food that's close by. Thank you to the staff for making us feel welcomed and by serving us with care. I choose chuck beef over rice, yams, lima beens, and a biscuit. I felt nostalgic eating this food reminiscing from days of past, living in the south and eating soul food
