If you order a fried item, however, it is cooked to order, so it is fresh. I had the smothered pork chop, rutabagas, squash casserole and a corn muffin. My wife got a fried porkchop. Absolutely delicious! Some of the best soul food I've had in the south. The baked chicken and dressing is perfect. The fried catfish and fried chicken are seasoned and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the Mac & cheese, greens and candied yams soufflé. If you come on a Sunday, expect to be in a line for a while, but it's well worth it (and that comes from a person who doesn't like to stand in lines). And the fried foods and made to order so expect an added 20 minutes for those. But worth it! read more

I wanted to get some fried okra and believe it or not, not easy to get in Ga. As I walked in, my thoughts were all over the place. This took me to a time in my life that was joyful. Lunch ladies recommending specials and inform us what is good! (All of it)! We grabbed a tray and proceeded through the choices of sides. They had a board to select. We went for the recommendation. I had had the 3 piece chicken dinner - 3 thighs, sweet potato soufflé, mac and cheese with a roll and iced tea. It was $12 and delicious. The men and women were very nice and helpful. There was plenty of space, clean chairs and tables and self service refills. read more

Ms. Stella's was the best place for down home country cooking. The people were very friendly and the food was awesome and amazing. We were in Milledgeville GA for 3 days and we ate there all 3 days. We didn't want anything else. Everything they served was great and the price was excellent. I will drive 5 hours to eat there, spend the night and eat again before getting back on the road. Soul food like this is a dying art. If you're nearby, Ms. Stella's is a must-stop. Every bite I put in my mouth was delicious. I went a little adventurous and got the pork neck bones -- messy but worth it; similar to ox tails. The purple-hull peas and squash casserole on the side were fantastic, but if I had to do it again I'd add a side of rice or mashed potatoes to woke up the delicious sauce the neck bones came in. My Dad got the calves liver in onions and brown gravy and loved his as well. If you're a pickier eater, they have meat loaf and fried chicken and mac n' cheese as well which I'm sure is every bit as good. MUST EAT HERE. If you were traveling through the Deep South like me and needed a quick stop for local cuisine, this is the place. I ordered the smothered pork chops with turnip greens and broccoli cheese rice and my bf got the beef tips with slaw and the same broccoli cheese rice. I grew up with home cooked country food but this was to another level. The taste was beyond delicious. You can tell these are old family recipes from the condition of the food. It's not any other "Ma and Pa country restaurant." The slaw had the perfect balance of mayo and vinegar with a hint of horseradish and the meats were so tender and full of flavor. They all come with this little corn bread flapjack thing that was new to me but good for sopping up the leftover gravy! I wish they were in my town. I am unsure if this is a town secret, but this business is special. There is attention to every food and flavor. I came looking for Soul food and this was the right place. Catfish, Turnip greens cooked proper, casserole dishes, fried okra, and gravy to smother it all was what is in the menu. I could not be happier with my choice, but this place should have a line out the door at all times of the year. It is not built to be a eat-in restaurant, it was made to pick up and eat with your family. Bring cash for tipping and be prepared to wait a few minutes while everything is prepared. This is the type of hole in the wall mom and pop place I was looking to find in Milledgeville. I happened at this place at the recommendation of a local and could not be happier I found this place. The place is at the corner and is a converted house. Walk in the doors and to your right is a modest dining room and to the left is where you order/pick up your food. Tons of locals hit this spot and everyone seemed to know everyone else. A plate comes with your choice of protein (I got the grilled chicken!) along with two sides of your choice. All the southern classics! All for ~ $6. They also serve some sandwiches, tea+lemonade, drinks, and desserts. If I could give zero stars I would. The staff is rude. And this place is very unprofessional. Ordered food, and paid. 10 minutes later they tell me they don't have it. I shrug it off and order a different side. And then another 10 minutes later they tell me they don't have that.
