It's a beautiful shop and my Dad was treated so well, got him all cleaned up and ready for anything. We'll be back soon.

I've been looking for a good barber for my son for about three years since I moved to SML. It's…read morebeen pretty difficult honestly. So when I looked on yelp & found this business I was excited & hopeful that it would work out. I made an apointment with Steve via their website for a Saturday apointment at 12:00. I drove all the way to Roanoke from the lake & at 12:00 Steve texted & said he didn't feel well and that he wasn't going to come into the shop at all that day. Now, I understand not feeling well...life happens. But to wait until the exact time of my apointment was piss poor. Now, I'll get to why I still gave this business a 5 star review. When we got the text that Steve left us high & dry CHASE stepped up & offered to cut my son's hair. He was crazy busy all by himself in the shop on a Saturday & he still squeezed us in. He took his time on my son's hair--he could have rushed him through & finished quickly, but Chase took his time & it really showed. I absolutely love my son's hair cut & I'll definitely bring my kid back to get his hair cut with Chase.

I waited for like 10 minutes before he finally came in the shop. Didn't introduce himself just told…read moreme to sit down in the chair. I should have got up and left the moment he had this dazed look like he was under the influence of something. Moved to Roanoke from San Diego so this was my first experience with a barber. Chase was the only one I could find with availability (should have been a warning sign) I've been getting the same cut for the past 10 years. Medium low skin fade, trim up the top. NOOO HIGH AND TIGHT. He never repeated back to me what I said, he just grabbed his clippers on a zero and ran a line up my head. He just kept cutting up and up and finally I was like dude I literally said no high and tight. At this point I already knew my hair was butchered, I didn't even want to see it, then on top of that he charges like $35 for subpar work, definitely will not be going back.

I'm a dude. Bro. Broheim...Brosefus. That's strange. I've just realized that I'm struggling…read moreto...say..."I'm a man". I'm also just now realizing that...I don't think its cool anymore to say "dude" or "dudebro". Whatever. I'm in my 30's. I should probably refer to myself as an adult male...or at least a guy. Yeah...Okay.... I'm a guy. Just wanted to set the record straight before I explain that most "guy" haircuts...are pretty simple unless the man-chilada has beautiful golden locks...or he has a skullet...also called a bullet (balding mullet) a la Brett Michaels (you know that's why he wears a do-rag, right? Oh shit...Remember that dating show he was on. Thanks for paving the way for crappy reality dating shows Brett! You suck!) Where was I? Hm... Oh yeah..."guy" haircuts are typically not that difficult...however, for some stupid reason, almost everyone who cuts my hair ends up making me look like an over zealous 5 year old who just got his first pair of safety-scissors. Until I met Marvin...Marvin was this Peruvian, loud and proud diva who could cut the shit out of some hair. Anyway...Marvin was my main hair cutting squeeze for 8 years until I moved across the country. Quite honestly...the one thing I was not looking forward to was finding someone else to cut my hair...because honestly...it feels like I'm cheating on Marvin...plus he always gave me inspirational one liners like..."Shut up...you look greeeaat" and "chyour wife looked great in that picture you posted yesterday...chyes I was stalking your facebook..soooo whaaat?!". Anyway...what I'm trying to say is I called around a couple of places...that were supposed to be good. One of them said I had to get an appointment a week in advance...Dude...You're a barber...not a dentist. Get your shit together. Anywhosies...So... I called Corporate Image to make sure I didn't have to wear a 3 piece suit to get a trim and they set me up with an appointment for a few hours later. Prompt service...Check. I get there...There's a kid getting his haircut. Dude looks happy. Dudekid... whatever...He was just chilling. My stylist (Penny) brings me up asks me what I want...and I pull the douchiest move ever by pulling up my facebook and like a typical moron (is it still PC to call someone moron?) and saying..."I want this [points to crappy selfie] with a number 3 on the sides." Penny didn't even bat an eye. She just gets to cutting. We did a little chatting but straight up...she finished my haircut in like what seems like 2 minutes. Quite honestly...I was dying to get home to see how bad she screwed it up. I checked in the mirror. Everything loooooooked fine...I payed...tipped (because thats what man-bros do)...and I rushed home to do the ultimate test. I put in my Murray's Pomade. Straight up. Penny nailed it. Crushed it...knocked it out of the park and for that...she's earned a customer-for-life and an really long, way-off-tangent 5-star review. Thanks Penny.

Jacks is a traditional men's barbershop located within the historic Davidsons Clothing for Men…read morestore in Downtown Roanoke, Virginia. Specializing in classic grooming services, Jacks offers expertly crafted manicure and pedicure services, among others, in a welcoming. friendly, and relaxing environment. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Today, after having made an appointment for 2:00pm, I revisited Jacks, and since my birthday is slowly approaching, I decided to treat myself to what they call in Jacks: "The Flush Signature Package. This package included a Classic Cut, with a deep cleansing shampoo, scalp and neck massage, precision haircut and style and aroma therapy hot towels. This was followed by the Executive Hand Detail which included a deluxe manicure that also included an exfoliating scrub and a warm paraffin wax dip. And last but not least, I received the Foot Treatment. Here my nails were trimmed, I had the removal of dead skin and I received a foot massage that promoted good circulation! During all this process I was treated like royalty. When I arrived they offered me a non-alcoholic drink. I had an iced Coca-Cola, comfortably seated and waiting to be called. When my stylist was ready, she came down to get me. Then we went to the second floor. I chose to go using the elevator rather than the long stairs. Once there I received the treatment previously described. Then my Manicurist / Pedicure continued doing the other things mention after once again offering me another non-alcoholic drink. What an amazing experience. When I was finished may hands and my legs felt so good from all the massages and treatments received. If you have an opportunity of going there I would highly recommend you do. You will feel like new again. Having these treatments done really does make a difference. I'm so glad I found this place.

Walk-ins are welcome but it seems appointments are easiest as the stylist stay pretty busy. The hair cuts are consistent and quality at a price that is comparable to any of the big name men's hair salons. The staff is very nice. I'm told that you can BYO alcohol and store it there to have while in the chair. There is also a clothing store downstairs that sells business/ casual attire making this a one stop shop to feel great about the way you look. You can make appointments in-person, over the phone or on their website.

We discussed what I wanted. He said no problem. So I sat down and he went to work. Razor, scissors and a straight edge. He did it all. No rush. Then some hot towels and a splash of Old Bay Rum. Done to perfection. And all for $12. Can't go wrong. I had tried most of the nice barbers here in Roanoke that are all run by women. Nice job but never up to what I wanted or expected. Being from NYC I am use to a good haircut. So finding this place was right what I was looking for. Remember ignore the outside and go in.

That being said, I am not a fan of supercuts or great clips because they notoriously do not have experienced barbers working there. I gave Highland Park Barber Shop a chance, not knowing anything about them at all. At first, you might be a little skeptical as its not the most aesthetically pleasing shop on earth (what barber shop is), but for $12 for a men's hair cut, I thought I would give it a shot. Let me tell you that I left there absolutely amazed. When you walk in, there are two barbers and a little waiting area. Ask for Greg- he is a wizard at cutting hair. I wear my hair high and tight and I am very picky about my looks- I'm hard to impress. He absolutely delivered and not to mention, my hair is very thick and hard to work with. He gave me an outstanding fade and it was better than my home barber shop in Southern California- that costs almost $25 a cut. I was extremely impressed. Give Highland Park Barber a shot- ask for Greg- and I promise you that you will not be disappointed. Great people, great service, great price. I will be going back every time I am in town.
