Mama Coco - walk down the memory lane
    Mukta D.

I was here a week after my previous visit. Boy, it was disappointing.. Service: 1/5 the young lady at the counter projected a really weird vibe, as if she was there to walk around in a beauty pageant, not to help customers with their orders. She barely responded to questions as if words cost money. Anyways, when I placed my order, instead of trying to understand what I asked for, she charged me for a Jalapeños salsa on the side. I'm someone who can't eat or tolerate very spicy food. So it felt absurd to get charged for a jalapeño salsa that I wouldn't eat. I told them that I was here couple days ago and the guy who was here gave me two salsas on the side(like every other Spanish restaurant), I just want those. And she and another lady told me, anything besides burrito is just us being generous, in a tone, that sounded like we are doing you a favor. I just paid for a burrito, so it felt bizarre. Food: 2/5 the burrito was cooked and the guy in the kitchen kept it at the counter. The way the chef kept it on the internal order counter was also weird, it rolled from one side of the counter to the other. And then it just stayed there for 3-4 mins, even though both ladies were free, they were not attending to other customers. As she was packing, that's when I realized that they were not going to add any salsa but a lot of chips. How was I going to eat those dry chips without any salsa. So absurd. So, I reminded them to give me the same two salsa like a few days ago. This is when they told me about them being generous. And I was taken aback and a bit annoyed by it. They gave me box and when I opened it at home, I realized they had taken out all the complimentary chips that they give out of generosity and gave me one cup of green salsa but no red salsa.. Ambiance: 3/4 it was fine but I am never going back again

Met up family here for lunch and it was perfect because my 2 kids were entertained the whole time by the play kitchen they had and also baby toys! Very cool that they have the space to do this in the back patio. The food was good and the service was good. The only odd thing was the michelada came in a glass that wasn't big enough for the whole beer so the mixture isn't right when you add more beer to it after? Not a big thing. Just grateful for a space that's great for toddlers! It's also close to Saint franks coffee and the Caltrain station. Everything was walkable!

Favorite Mexican restaurant in Menlo Park!! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with so much love. The service is welcoming and makes you feel like family every time you walk in. From the burritos to the plates, everything is delicious and beautifully prepared. Must try food and experience!

$13 for this small container of chicken tortilla soup :/

Ordered DoorDash from here today. Tortilla Soup bowl was ok, bit on the salty side and the portion was small. The Pastel Azteca was stale and hard, inedible. I would rather them have told me they didn't have it than send me something I couldn't even eat. First time getting food from here and highly disappointed! Won't be back.

    Pescado Asado

3.5 stars Mama Coco is a colorful, homey Mexican restaurant offering a menu of fresh, vibrant dishes. The Pescado Asado was a fillet of pan-roasted snapper served over a creamy yellow squash puree along with zucchini, corn, peppers, mango, tomato relish, and coconut rice. The Carne a la Tampiqueña was a variety plate that came with sliced skirt steak grilled with onions/peppers, mole enchiladas, guacamole, refried pinto beans, and red rice. Finally, we had the Huarache (meaning "sandal"), made of a fried oblong masa dough served over black bean puree and topped with cactus salad, cheese, cream, green salsa, and a choice of meat (we had the Cochinita Pibil, or achiote pork shoulder braised in banana leaves). My favorite part about the dishes was the variety of flavors represented on each of the plates, though the prices were surprisingly high for the portion sizes, and the service was slow and inattentive.

Really was not a fan of this place. First, they kept the door open so as a result, the interior had tons of flies and mosquitos that kept flying around our food. Second, the service was not great. It took a long time for anyone to come by to take our order or to take our bill. Third, the food was really disappointing. The guacamole tasted like it came from a grocery stores far too creamy. The bowl for the tostada ensalada was too hard and none of the shrimp were deveined. And agree with other reviews that there was way too much dressing on the salad. Sadly would not return and would not recommend.

Delicious food not too salty, and lots of good flavors. Suizas de Mariscos and fish tacos are my favorite items here. :)

Really good burritos, I do mostly take out so can't rate ambiance or service. Also like the chicken tortilla soup in the winter.

Place is a little small and unassuming from the street but the appeal for me was the $2.75 tacos in this economy? As for the tacos, great taste and value overall! They give a pretty generous portion size for their meat in the tacos. I asked for fish tacos, but the lady said they only do fish and shrimp tacos for 6.99? My favorite of the 3 tacos I had was the al pastor, wish it had a little pineapple on top with it. Carnitas were good, but not as flavorful and the lengua was pretty tender as one would hope 4/5* We also ordered the bisteck ranchero and it was a bit lack luster portion size was a lot smaller than what I'm used to and it was soaked in a red tomato sauce. Unfortunately this dish was a miss and underwhelming 2/5* Chips and salsa are refillable upon request too. The women who were working here were very nice as well! Salsa is on the medium/spicy side I'm giving this place 4 stars because of how happy I was with the tacos, please don't change those! Except maybe a little pineapple on the al pastor please! If you're hungry and want something flavorful and filling I would 100% stick to the tacos here

I got 2 quesobirria tacos and 2 tacos al pastor, and visually everything looked on point -- the plating was clean, tacos looked well-stuffed, and the birria tortillas had that nice golden crisp. But once we started eating, we all felt the same thing: the salsas were lacking flavor. And with tacos like these, good salsa takes everything to the next level. Here, it kind of held them back. They only gave me two tiny lime pieces, and I couldn't even get enough juice out of them to brighten up the tacos. Something so simple, but it makes a huge difference. We also asked for chips and salsa (they're not free), and they never came. Honest mistake -- they were cool about it and took it off the bill -- but still, it added to the overall experience. Another thing: the nopales weren't well cooked or prepped. They had that slightly tough, raw texture instead of the tender, seasoned bite they should have. Flavor-wise, the pastor and birria were decent, but with weak salsa and barely any lime, it felt incomplete. All four of us agreed on the same thing: This place could be great if they tighten up their salsas and the little details. I'd give them another shot someday because the base is there -- they just need that extra punch of flavor to really elevate their tacos.

The restaurant is beautiful and vibrant. We went in the fall, but I can only imagine how fun and full of energy it must feel in the summer. Food-wise: we tried the carne asada, shrimp, and birria tacos. The shrimp tacos were the standout for both of us. Absolutely amazing! The carne asada was our least favorite; the portion of meat was small, the tortillas were tiny for the fillings, and the burnt/melted cheese inside threw off the flavor. We also shared the guacamole + salsa combo, which I enjoyed, but just a heads-up: it leans on the spicier side.

I ordered a burrito with carne asada along with one taco. Right away, I was impressed with the presentation. Everything was neatly packed, and the portions were generous, which is always a plus for catered meals. Overall, the taste wasn't bad, but it didn't completely wow me. The carne asada was decent and filling, though I feel the burrito would've tasted much better with sour cream. Unfortunately, that came with an extra fee, so I skipped it. In hindsight, I probably would've enjoyed the meal more if I ordered a bowl instead, since the flavors might have stood out more without being wrapped in a tortilla. While it wasn't my favorite Mexican-style catering I've had, it was still a solid option for a work meal.
