I really enjoyed my first experience at Maltitude. I have always looked at this place to only buy beer and then leave, but to my amazement it was a totally different vibe. I got a flight of 4 different beers. Some were good to me and some didn't taste so good to me.. It's a good place to decide if you like beer and to find the taste of beer you like. The selection is crazy anything from IPA to Belgium or German. I love the fact that you can chill inside or outside and play a few games before you decide to leave. I seriously love this place. We were looking for craft beer in Columbus and stumbled up Maltitude. They have lots of craft beer for purchase and a few pretty rare ones. The owner (I forgot his name) and staff were super friendly and helpful. I had never owned a growler before so wanted to try that. You get to sample 3 - 1 oz samples for $3. The good thing is that its only $3, the bad thing is that you only get to try 3 because of some crazy Georgia law. With that said, bring a friend so you can try more and be educated on your growler fill purchase. The prices are very reasonable, and will be back. This a great concept. I just wish that you could actually drink beer in there and have some food. read more

This review is a little late, but I have always meant to come back and report my experience with this store. To be clear, I have never visited the actual establishment. But back in 2014/2015 I was dating a craft-beer enthusiast who lived in Phenix City, and I wanted to get him a special gift during the holiday season to wet his whistle. Enter Maltitudes. I called the store and purchased a gift certificate by phone, providing my full credit card details orally to the store associate (whose name escapes me at the moment, but I'll add it if I think of it) who answered the phone. Well, let's just say that not only did I receive the gift certificate -- but I also received a whole lot more than I bargained for, namely my credit card being used shortly thereafter on hundreds of dollars of fraudulent purchases at an area Walmart and ... McDonalds, I believe it was. Thankfully, my credit card company quickly identified the suspicious transactions and alerted me, ultimately closing that account number and issuing me a new number in its place. I have no idea whether the associate who took my call was directly responsible for the fraud, or whether he somehow sold my information to a third party who did the bad deed. But I was highly annoyed and inconvenienced by the entire affair, and it definitely confirmed that there was (and maybe still is, I don't know) a dishonest person on the store's staff. read more

Coming from Colorado where growler filling has been around for a while I was very happy to see that Georgia's alcohol laws finally came out of the prohibition days, got with the times, and is allowing growler fills! This is a locally, veteran-owned shop that caters to the beer (and wine) snob. I'm not sure you can use beer and snob in the same sentence, but I'm going to. They have a great, open, artisan-type shop that allows you to browse without getting in the people's way who know what they want. They also do a "limited" release keg every Sunday that is usually sold out within hours depending on the brand, and style. They have a "pick your six-pack" cooler where you can try beers of the same style, but by different brewers. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help anyone out who is either new to craft beer, or not sure of what they will like. read more

I've never ever seen this business model anywhere else. I found myself in Columbus for a wedding, exploring the Riverwalk (Verdict: Bee-eh-you-tifull) and my hubs and I stumbled over this place. They're a beer store with a bar in the back. But the bar isn't a bar. It's a growler filling station. What? Kind of amazing, but my mind immediately boggles at the overhead. How do they make a profit? It's probably from a prodigious amount of tap take-overs like the one we walked into. Wild Heaven from Decatur (say it right now, ya'll--[DEE-KAY-TER]) had flooded those taps with, arguably, the best beer I've had from the South. And the lovely folks at Maltitude hooked us up with a growler for... $5. Incredible! And the fill was only $16 (for a quad!). My only complaint is they didn't sell local wine, or group the locally made beer together. It makes it a little challenging for tourists looking to sample the local suds. But maybe this isn't a place for tourists. Because it was full of smiling, laughing locals. read more

We went several times and no one that worked there ever said hello or asked us if we needed help. We made it a pit stop on every trip downtown because it was so odd to us and we were gluttons for punishment that wanted to see if it would happen again, and it did, every time. With that being said I gave them a hard time about it last night and they seemed genuinely apologetic and concerned. We were boycotting them due to this, but I think we'll go back and do business with them now. They have the best craft beer selection in Columbus. I have nothing else to add so here is a recipe for my mom's homemade mac and cheese:) Recipe Ingredients: 1/2 pound elbow macaroni 3 tablespoons butter 3 tablespoons flour 1 tablespoon powdered mustard 3 cups milk 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced 1 bay leaf 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1 large egg 12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded 1 teaspoon kosher salt Fresh black pepper Topping: 3 tablespoons butter 1 cup panko bread crumbs Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente. While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for ten minutes and remove the bay leaf. Temper in the egg. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese. Melt the butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat. Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving. Remember to save leftovers for fried Macaroni and Cheese. read more

This place is amazing! Lots of bottles of beer to choose from and on the back wall there are 20 taps if you want to fill up a growler. You also get to have a taste for $1. Staff was friendly and able to describe the beers so you could imagine you were at a wine tasting in Sonoma. I wish Phoenix had something similar because it is not often that I am in Columbus.
