By day it is filled with ladies who lunch, dining on the selection of decent-enough bar snacks and throwing back lattes like their rotary club membership depended on it. Of a night though it transforms into one of Formby's most popular nightspots with live music (usually by covers acts or local acoustic guitarists playing a selection of middle-of-the-road pop'n'rock picks) beer-quaffing customers spilling out onto the pavement in various states of merriness. Inside it's a little narrow and there's probably a bit too much in the way of padded leather seating but it is almost impossible to not get caught up in the lively atmosphere of a Friday or Saturday night spent here, especially in the summer months. They should really stop showing that video of the fireplace on the television when it's not being used for sport though.

Unfortunately for Formby, it got stuck with the smaller version, with coffee drinkers squeezed into the narrow inside whenever it's raining or cold. If it turns out to be quite a pleasant day, customers will almost certainly be found at the outside seating, because people like nothing more than to sit by the side of a road in the village (never seen the appeal, myself). Of a night, Woodwards becomes another one of Formby's busy bars as its finest (and some minor celebrities, if you're lucky) quickly fill the inside and out, meaning those spilling out of here and at D'Art often meet. Like The Gallery, if trendy wine bars are your cup of tea, I'd recommend it but I generally find it all a bit too posy for my liking and therefore generally try to avoid it.

A 'green room' in the entertainment business is a room where an artist waits before going on to perform Google reliably informs me, so I guess that's not related either. Unless they have an abundance of performing artists just sitting in there waiting to perform somewhere, of course. As it is, The Green Room is a fairly pleasant bar and grill in the heart of Ormskirk village which offers its customers various hot and cold refreshments of both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety. Of a daytime, customers can sip on cappuccinos and lattes whilst enjoying the sun in their nice outdoor seating area (weather permitting, of course). Of a night time, the bar is filled with woman drinking glasses of rose whilst their partners swig from various foreign bottled beers. The atmosphere is pleasant enough and although I've not had a chance to try their food, the menu does look pretty appetising and reasonably priced, meaning The Green Room is a solid place to go for a few drinks with friends or for a nice evening meal.

Good place to hang out with old friends and drink to your hearts' content. true epitome of what a british pub would be like. The only downfall was that the workers came around rushing us to finish our drinks and get out because they're closing up. Must be a culture thing, we've definitely stayed longer than we were supposed to have in American places and they just waited, yes, i know, we were wrong for staying, we just lost track of time, and always made sure to tip well! But here they aren't afraid to say hey, we're closing, get out! ok ok a lot nicer but basically same message. :) But other than that, I would come back for sure, service was great otherwise.

Otherwise, go ahead and order/prepay from the bar and then grab a seat. Beers are cold. Food is simple and yummy. Stick with their signature items such as the carvery - slices of 4 choices of meat with Yorkshire pudding and unlimited sides/gravy including mac and cheese, cauliflower, roasted parsnip, steamed carrots, steamed peas, corn, green beans, stuffing, roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes and a few more! Tomato basil soup was good. Shrimp cocktail was overcooked and made with teeny weeny shrimps. It's a casual, family friendly, affordable dining spot.

went here for my sunday roast last week and was very dissapointed :( the yorkshires were so dry…read morethey turned to dust in my mouth, they were stingy with the meat and all the veg was so overcooked it was like mush. the manager, a oldish guy with grey hair had an attitude problem when i told him i wasnt completely happy! all of the staff on the other hand were abolutely lovely and polite, and the pub itself has lovely decor and was nice and warm with an open fire...but these are the only decent things about this place. so if you only want a drink, then this is an ok place to come but dont bother if you are hungry!

If there are two words that will get people very excited when it comes to drinking, it's 'happy…read morehour'. Unfortunately many pubs and clubs don't really do happy hours any more; I guess maybe it's all just seen as a bit old-fashioned. Plus many places do cheap drinks deals all the time or not at all. The Plough is one such place that still persists with a good ol' happy hour that, funnily enough, isn't actually a happy 'hour' as it lasts from 11am through until 7pm everyday. Not that anyone's complaining of course. The pub itself is well-sized and has a decent location in the town centre whilst helpfully being sat next to a couple of takeaways as well. Aside from their happy hour that offers pints for just £2.10, The Plough also has a variety of decent drinks offers on bottled beers as well as spirits and cocktails for the ladies amongst you. As a consequence, the atmosphere in The Plough is always friendly and quite lively, making it a good place to go when you're looking to get in the mood for a night out and it's also a decent place to watch the footy of a matchday.
