But the most unexpected thing is the food - Spanish tapas type dishes with a Moroccan influence. With this, I let my colleagues decide on the after-work drinking spot; there was nothing I could recommend without the feeling that it was probably a good 30 minute walk away. So, we walked across the road and I was introduced to City Wine Bar, probably one of the only nice looking bars within this area. It's all very rustic, quite small - so I can imagine it being rammed on a Friday - with a really nice atmosphere. Service was a little bit slow, but I took this as an opportunity to take in my surroundings. We had a few glasses of wine, which were very nice for the house choices, and I was told great things about the cocktails and food. If you're in this part of Liverpool for business or pleasure, City Wine Bar is a fine destination.

You can either try to park close by on the one way street, although then of course you would miss out on trying any of their wonderful cocktails; I strongly recommend the fabulous City Sunset btw! Or if you wish to have a drink, then Moorfields station is close by (just make sure you exit on Old Hall Street, unlike me!) Honestly though; the friendliness, the food (major congrats to the charming chef btw!) was superb, in fact my starter was almost orgasmic and boy does the food have to be excellent to get me to say that! It is a shame that more people have yet to discover this place and although part of me would love to keep this fabulously wonderful place to myself, it is too incredibly good for me to be so selfish. Milly's Wine Bar in Maghull is a strange sort of place…read more From the outside, it looks fairly modestly-sized, but upon entering you realise that it actually opens out into a rather large area inside. The bar is filled with a range of seating and booths for a rather more intimate drink if you fancy it and the walls are adorned with a range of sports paraphernalia and plasma TVs. It advertises itself as a sports bar so any sporting event, whether it is a big boxing match or Barnet v Dagenham & Redbridge, Milly's will almost certainly be showing it. They also have live music on at weekends, with local bands and acts performing and creating a fun, lively atmosphere, helped by the range of beers and spirits they have on offer there. There is also a nice little outdoor drinking area at the front of the bar, but unless you're a smoker then I wouldn't recommend it too much as the views of the car park aren't particularly inspiring. One negative about Milly's is its position on the 'Red Lion Shopping Centre', which is actually just a grouping of shops sat next to the bypass, so its location isn't exactly in a busy area. However, this does not seem to deter the many drinkers that go there so don't let it put you off too much.

My mother-in-law and I ordered the Pornstar Martini which has passion fruit in it -- it's even topped with half a passion fruit! My MIL knew I'd like the drink (I absolutely love passion fruit), so we decided to get it, but when I saw it was made with orange juice, which I don't like, the bartender was nice enough to offer to make it with pineapple juice! Delightful! The food here is really nice. They have a limited set lunch menu but they offer a wider range of options a la carte or for their dinner menu. Our table shared our appetizers which were delicious. I especially loved the calamari which had just the right amount of crunch! The goat cheese was really nice too, as well as the pate. For my main, I ordered the home made fish cakes which were really tasty, and quite large. I took one home for lunch the next day! My toddler loved the chips (fries)! I liked them too, but he liked him so much I barely had any. #momlife I'm fan of this local restaurant and I'm sure we'll come again on a future visit to my inlaws. :)

Was pretty excited on the night too, so excited I left my card in the wine machine which made me look like a total amateur. It's much more spacious inside than I had realised, and there are also seats and heaters outside with a great view of the nearby row of traditional pubs with the town hall in the background. I enjoyed trying the various wines (the smallest amount is often £2-3 so you can try a good four wines on a £10 card pre-payment) and could even tell that some of them tasted different, so am basically going to be earning my MW in no time. They also do a few little snacks - my fave baba ghanoush and some rather tasty crisps, although the brown olives tasted too sour for me. Tap water came chilled in a delightful glass bottle. Btw I am not sure there are actually other drinks options here, maybe check that before you go. The staff were efficient and welcoming and I am sure I will be back here. A great companion to hanging ditch and Bakerie in terms of our city's wine bar scene.

Although I now work for an independent wine merchant in Didsbury and am considered a bit of a fussy geek by my friends, I have longed for a good wine bar in Manchester pretty much since I arrived in town over 6 years ago, well before wine was a big thing for me. A few places have attempted it, half-heartedly for some, but none had so far succeeded. Then came Salut wines, first baby business of a lovely couple who like me love good wine and thought it deserved proper representation in the City Centre. An ambitious project that was, not without hurdles. But tenacity paid off and behold, a superb, clean, warm and welcoming wine bar where odd ins once was. Enomatic machines a-go-go, 32 wines are available by the glass at any point in (opening) time. That's 16 whites and rosés and 16 reds. Thanks to these machines you can enjoy a vast variety of wines, all of which are way above your house plonk from most pubs/bars/restaurant. And that's not all. 3 measures are available: 50ml, 125ml and 175 ml. The first one is my favourite. I can play to my heart's content and try a lot of wine before it's time to call it a day. Most wines are between £1.20 and £5 for a glass but you can also try some of the fancier stuff that would NEVER be available by the glass otherwise. Risk-free. Whilst they do not cater, a range of nibbles and tapas plates are available and it's perfectly suitable for a light lunch or diner. Cheese, cured meats and Mediterranean veggie plates, all made with very good ingredients. Music is top notch, not your average lounge "elevator" type nor your bass-boosted frenzy. Blues, jazz, pop, electro... To sum-up, great atmosphere, best wine selection in town, excellent service. The bottle prices to take away are on the steep side of I'm honest but I'll put that down as the location.

If I were you I'd definitely give the spiced corn fed chicken a whirl indeed, it was delightful!!! Served with crushed potatoes, chorizo and rosemary stuffing, roasted pepper dressing & basil crisps it was well prepared and cooked nicely indeed. At under £13 it was not bad price wise either for a main. The service was top notch, and I warmed to the aesthetics of the place. Well worth a visit I'd say!!!
