I visited earlier this year to watch Tuscaloosa County High put on a production of Beauty and the Beast. The inside looks like you're sitting outside the doors of a beautiful castle, faux brick lining the walls, balconies, and the ceiling painted like the sky. The little lights embedded in the ceiling come on when the lights go off so it looks like your gazing at the stars. The seats are by no means five star but they aren't intolerable either. They have a concessions area with typical theater prices. The biggest negative is the parking. It can be a real stinker and you may have quite a walk.

This is the least expensive theatre I've ever been to. Two people can have a movie date night for not much money at all. The tickets aren't to only thing that is cheap: this place has the cheapest popcorn and drinks I've ever seen. You can get a large popcorn and 2 large cokes for $9 I believe. This is a steal especially since other theatres upcharge their popcorn so much Now this place doesn't have the fanciest seating, but for the price this place is clean and cheap. The staff is friendly. I'd totally recommend this theatre to anyone, and this will be my exclusive stop for seeing a movie.

I often check on that first stall on the left to see if anyone has bothered to replace the cracked lid that exposes the plumbing in the tank. They haven't. Oh and my husband says 3 of the 4 urinals in the men's room are out of order. This is a clear representation of how much the owner/managers care about this theater. The oven they use to heat up the overpriced food is always broken. Oh and a couple of the screens have overly dim projectors making already dark movies practically impossible to watch. Lastly be careful in the parking lot. It's only a matter of time before the potholes connect and open into an actual sinkhole.

While each has their pros and cons, just for the overall more laid back vibe, I prefer Cinemark. As stated, it's in the mall, and when you first walk in, feels very much like an old-school mall theatre. You can book online (or purchase in person the old fashioned way), and choose your seating. Then, pick up your physical tickets when you arrive, via the box office (if it's being staffed), the kiosk inside, or the concession stand. As far as the theatres themselves, it's run of the mill digital surround sound. And the bigger theater you're in the better the sound, because of more speakers. That said, don't go in expecting Dolby Atmos or 4D, or an XD (IMAX competitor) screen. Expect an older style gentle sloping theatre (versus pure stadium seating) with comfortable "luxury recliners". The staff is friendly, the seats are comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean. Also, if you go to the movies somewhat often or regularly, their movie club membership is more than worth it. My only real issue would be inconsistent A/C temps, depending on which theatre house you're in. In my opinion theatres should consistently be on the colder side.

The staff is generally friendly and accommodating, thought a bit slow (time counts when those process are running out!) The popcorn is always warm and fresh, and they have a great stock of snacks and candy available! The theatres are usually really clean and the seats are very comfortable; the last time I went my seat was broken however and would not raise the footrest. The bathrooms are kind of dark but generally clean. Pro tip: buy your tickets in advance! You'll get your pick of seats and pay a little less!

Bigger stadium style seating, better projection, and higher quality sound, with Dolby Atmos offerings for certain films. That said, you're going to pay for it. Whereas a late showing at Cinemark runs $9.50- $9.75 (as of 26 May 25), Malco is charging $11.25-$11.75. On Tuesday specials, you have a similar gap, with Cinemark around $5, and Malco around $7. I generally find this reasonable given the differences. We swung by on Memorial Day during a busy opening, holiday extended weekend. Booking online (and having to pay extra for it) helps get past any lines, and skip to the kiosk. Like most modern theaters, there's no traditional movie stubs; rather cheap receipt paper tickets, about as thin as toilet paper. Being a stub collector I find this disappointing, but again I can't ding them for it, as it's par for the course with most theatres. The staff was courteous, and the theater clean. Until that point I was sitting on five (5) stars ... unfortunately I cannot ignore or forgive the state of disrepair my "luxury" seat was in (picture included; House 5, Row J). And the two (2) next to it, weren't far behind, so it clearly wasn't a one (1) off. This is not something that gets accidentally missed, nor something that happened suddenly. Because of that, I can't get past a two (2). However, being a film lover, I will try again in about a month, booking the same House, to see if there are any changes. If so, I'll update my rating accordingly.
