Does it count if I visit Davis Wade Stadium but don't actually attend a game?? According to my friend Chris, it does NOT COUNT! C'mon Chris really?!?! But in my book, yes, it's a check off the list! So yesterday, on a beautiful spring morning in Starkville, Mississippi, I showed up on the campus of Mississippi State University and walked around Davis Wade Stadium. And for those who are familiar with TikTok, G-Fed tours every D-1 college football stadium (not on game days) and gets credit for it. Now it's my turn, lol. Davis Wade sits in the middle of Mississippi State's campus. First up from the parking lot, you have an undisturbed view of the home side of the stadium. It's perfect for a picture moment with Mississippi State's big "M" logo highlighting this section. Also noticeable were a few banners hanging parallel to the "M" State logo of their famous alumni now succeeding in the NFL. Players like Dak Prescott, Darius Slay and Chris Jones. Walking to the right hand side is the first of two end zones. And this is where things got dramatic, real fast (yes for me being a college football fan, lol)... Mississippi State's lettering was boldly painted behind the end zone scoreboard. Now...if you follow the brick path away from the scoreboard, you approach a statue of their mascot, the bulldog. Then if you turn around for a picture, you not only get the bulldog mascot, but you capture the Mississippi State signed scoreboard in the background too. Within one frame, they make a terrific college football stadium setting, with plenty of charming green grass and trees surrounding it all. I definitely took too many photos here, but I was having fun in the moment. And...for 11am on a Sunday, the campus was quiet and I didn't have to contend with students interfering with my picture taking, lol. Moving on...the horizontal back section of the stadium didn't offer much. I walked past a police station but at least there were more trees and grass to admire (which I didn't mind, lol). Lastly, the second end zone showcased a simple brick building facade. It had an old fashioned feel to it. Underneath the awning representing this end zone were large puzzle pieces embedded into the pavement comprising all the counties that make up Mississippi. It was interesting to observe. And Starkville is located towards the northeast section of the state. Then finally, the walk around felt like a mission successfully completed (from my pov, hahaha). It didn't take long. I finished in under 90 minutes and that was slowly taking my time. Here are some extra thoughts... - I wasn't able to get glimpses inside Davis Wade Stadium or onto the field from outside. - I parked in the front parking lot, but come game days, that won't be feasible whatsoever. - According to Google, Davis Wade Stadium only holds 61,000 seats, but by the looks of walking around, I would think it could pack in a lot more fans, maybe 80,000 - 90,000. - I hope to attend a game someday in the future. There's nothing like SEC football. The best players from the best conference in the country with some of the best stadium atmospheres. And I'd love to hear those iconic cow bells ringing all game long. Overall, I'm glad I made the effort to stop at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, MS. For me as a college football fan, I've watched plenty of games on television, but to actually be here with my own two feet and standing on Mississippi State's campus, in person, was a huge thrill whether there was a game being played or not. Having now been to games in Oxford and Starkville, the experiences could hardly have been more different. At Ole Miss, in the famous Grove, "F*CK YOU AGGIES" was yelled at me - more than once - while carrying my young daughter on my shoulders. At the game, Ole Miss fans spit sunflower seeds on my wife and son. Very classy. At Mississippi State, we enjoyed touring the beautiful campus, stopping to see the Grant and Lincoln collections at the library. We were among State fans a lot, at Bulldog Burger before the game and in a State section of the stadium. To the last person, everyone was friendly or least polite. I would be at 5 stars if not for cowbells! I didn't have preconceptions about these schools before, but now there's only one thing left to say. HAIL STATE! read more

Love, love, love this stadium and its game day operations! As a current graduate student at MSU, I took my family to the Turkey Bowl. The stadium is state of the art with so many amazing conveniences in mind for attendees. There was no long waits in line for entrance, concession, or restrooms. I wish I would have had better seats. I sat at one of the very ends of the stadium which was great for entrance and exit, but the view was a bit obscured for the game and even the drone show. But, this is typical for certain seats in any stadium. But, the overall ease of getting in and out of the stadium was great. Although some of the employees around the stadium were not quite sure of certain parking areas, I finally made it to Sorority Row. Now, getting out of there... that was an act of patience. But, unlike some other games I've gone to at other colleges, people were nice enough to let each other in the line going out and this caused people toward the middle and end of the line to have to wait longer. Again, that's to be expected some. read more

Long time season ticket holder. I have really enjoyed the updated stadium. Even outside of the newest parts in the end zone, the facilities on the West side are much improved. $100M in football construction projects and this place is not very nice. The facilities are 1930s era, antiquated at best. Most concessions consist of a folding table under a tent. The mens restrooms feature urinals that are a giant disgusting trough in the floor. The stalls lack locking doors, and on one recent visit the stall walls caved in on a patron. Most of the stadium still features bleacher seating. The highest top rows are so steep that you feel as if you'll fall over if you have any misstep. All the negatives aside, the fans really make up for it. It's an amazing football atmosphere, and they really write the book on how to tail gate. I wouldn't otherwise be so negative on the facilities if this wasn't the SEC with multi-billion TV deals and decades long history of sell outs at State. read more

What are you looking for in a football stadium? I'm looking for a place with a good atmosphere and good sightlines. Davis Wade has both of these. Despite seeing State lose to LSU, I still had a great time. PROS: -- More Cowbell!!! Nowhere else in the country are you going to find 58,000 fans ringing cowbells. Some of the fans even had cowbell holsters on their belts. -- Great sightlines. Even from the top of the upper deck I had a great view of the game. -- Great tailgating and pre-game. From thousands of maroon tents on the lawns surrounding the stadium to the pre-game band performance as they march in, State does it right. -- HD Big screen. The state of the art video board is ridiculous! It's the 4th biggest college football screen in the country and they show replays of every single play so if you missed something or want to see whether that was a legitimate holding call you can see it in crystal clear HD. CONS: -- MSU really needs to work on concessions. I ordered chicken fingers and fries but they didn't have fries and had to get them from downstairs. They wouldn't let me just pay for chicken fingers. I waited so long I eventually gave up and asked for my money back. -- Other than the cowbells, the MSU crowd is relatively tame. Not a lot of hooting and hollering or singing. They are certainly friendly but lack the intensity of other schools. read more

LSU fan here. We had a great experience at this stadium even though my team lost. I cannot believe I just said that but it is true! Mississippi State has the nicest, most polite fans I have ever interacted with. I travel to a lot of stadiums (college and pro) but have never been treated so pleasantly. As we walked around the stadium before the game, Miss St fans continued to tell us "hello" and "thank you for coming". It was so different than anywhere else that I have ever visited. We were kind of just in shock at how nice they were to us before and after they beat us :) Mississippi State has great fans! read more

My alma mater plays football here and that makes Davis Wade Stadium--Scott Field one of my favorite places on earth! I enrolled at Mississippi State in 1997 and started attending games here at that time. I saw some incredible games during my college days. We tore down the goal posts on multiple occasions! I still have a piece of one of those victims from the 1999 game against Ole Miss. One such game came against Florida in 2000. MSU won that day 47-35 and the score was much closer than the actual game. The Dawgs out-rushed Florida 351 to -78 on the day! Spurrier's visor is probably still circling the stadium. I also had the privilege of seeing us beat Arkansas in 1998 to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game. The Bullies hit a last second field goal to win that one. Almost as exciting was a win over Ole Miss in 1999. The Bulldogs would trail all game until a tying touchdown in the last minute. After the kick-off, the Rebs go deep and throw and incredible interception. Another last second field goal would complete the comeback! Over the years, the stadium has grown and it now taking on a major face-lift for 2014. The brick facade will add a beautiful look to the stadium. This, in addition to the tailgating area--The Junction--being right next to the stadium, will create an amazing game day. If you love southern football, are working on seeing every SEC stadium, or just want to be around the most passionate fans in all of college football, you need to make a trip to Starkville, Mississippi. The cowbell, giant jumbo-tron, and our awesome bulldog mascot make for an amazing football experience! read more

Ok, this stadium isn't the best... it's not the largest, it's not the loudest, and they don't play the best football here. How-Eva... it actually has a really nice gameday experience. I attended a night game between MS State and LSU (nope, not a fan of either), and was impressed at how far this place has come. I've attended a game or two here since the early 80's. They've added on, renovated, they have the largest jumbotron outside of Cowboys Stadium that I've ever seen, and they enjoy their SEC football. Though I honestly can't stand the sight or sound of a cowbell, they've done a great job of embracing it and made it part of their program. They even have Christopher Walken on the jumbotron asking for a "little more cowbell" from time to time. Overall, this is a great place to see a game... two thumbs up. read more
