I visited this place the first time today after driving past who knows how many times in the last ten years. Much like the TARDIS, is it much bigger on the inside! Worst customer service I've ever encountered. Woman was extremely rude over the phone, all I was asking if they are a pesticide free nursery in a polite voice. First she was like a what?? in the most condescending voice you could imagine pretending she didn't know what I was talking about first and after I repeated myself in more detail, and then finally caved and said she has a spray for this and a spray for that and despite her disgusting tone and choice is words throughout the call I said ok, have a nice day, thank you and she goes uh oh. Always great produce - many pickled and canned items from which to choose- jams and jellies and salsa's. They also have unique favors of ice cream and take-n-bake pies In all flavors! Right now they have bottled cherry juice. I love the plant selection and gardening supplies. This is the perfect place to stop in for a unique gift! It is a year round farmer's market!! read more

What a little diamond in the rough! This store is quite large with a variety of flowers and plants, but not to mention the salsas and jarred goods!! I walked away with habanero salsa, queso, green hot sauce and flowers. What a combo! While shopping, I was asked twice if I was finding everything I needed and then helped by the most friendly cashier at checkout. I will definitely return to this garden nursery! read more

Given some of their stuff is pretty pricey, but if you catch it at the right time it's not bad. I bought a pretty big squash for under a buck yesterday. Their staff is always ready to help and they are pretty friendly too. Another plus is they sell locally produced jams, preserves, ice cream, and cider. I really love their peach!!! And for those of you with a green thumb, they have potting soil, fill soil, and hay. Yay! Local produce! I'm actually willing to overlook their inflated prices simply because I was so wildly excited that I got to visit the closest thing to a real farmer's market I've seen since moving here. Malara Gardens is part nursery, part grocery store. Honestly, we didn't look around at the plants, herbs, and soil too much, but we did get all up in the fruits and vegetables. The folks who worked there were extremely friendly and helpful, and they had an enormous grill going with chicken and ... some meat other than chicken that smelled really good. You could tell they were people that took a lot of pride in their business. Sidenote: They had big basil plants on sale at the counter for only $1.99. Did I buy one? No. Am I regretting that now? Yes. Yes I am. If you're looking for a down home kind of produce shopping experience and need some spinach, watermelon, or sweet corn, head northwest, folks. My family has been twice, and have had an incredible experience each time. We have driven by countless times on our way to the in-law's house. After our last visit on Sunday, we will make sure to stop by every chance we can. They are currently all decked out for Halloween, and it's delightful. The 6 year old loved their little hay bale maze, and ran through it about a dozen times. The produce for sale is fresh, good quality, and priced below grocery stores. We really enjoyed the corn we bought. We were lucky enough to discover the locally made ice cream they sell, made by Glacier Ice Cream. It is the absolute best ice cream we have ever had. We will be back to try all the other flavors! The customer service is amazing. The wonderful woman who helped us made us feel so welcome. She appeased us when we played with the awesome Christmas light glasses, even though we were blocking the checkout. She answered our questions with grace and kindness. Hands down, best farmer's market and gardening center I've been to. read more

Well, what a nice surprise. We wound up back at Malara because my Almighty Will got vetoed, and found things to be in a little better shape. They really did have some truly gorgeous baskets and prices that made more sense. In fact, right now you can get 10 tomato plants for $10.00! How can that be?! You can't even get ten tomatoes for ten dollars at Whole Foods. There's still plenty of stuff everywhere, but it looks like a concerted effort has been made to tidy up. I broke down and bought some plants because they truly looked AMAZINGLY healthy and there were some lovely annuals I haven't seen anywhere else. And completely different staff was there when we were in; a nice fellow who chatted with me and was quite knowledgeable. So.... as much as it pains me, I have to change my previous review and say (sigh) YOU WERE RIGHT THAT THESE GUYS WOULD PULL IT TOGETHER. There, Honey. Happy Father's Day. read more

They have roasted green chilis in the fall and frozen pie cherries, which can be hard to find! I don't buy plants from Malara's- not a great selection, but what they have looks good. We go for the produce in the summer/fall, and for the Christmas trees in the winter. BEST Christmas tree we've ever had came from Malara's last year. Yes, we paid a little more for it, but it held up far better than our King Soopers trees of the past. The guy walked us down aisle by aisle, explaining the differences between the types of trees and their needles. They also keep many of their trees inside, so you don't have to worry about their being frozen and then thawing in your living room- dropping all of their needles on your floor! read more

stopped by for the first time to buy some of their fresh roasted New Mexico chile peppers, I was impressed with the time and effort they take to make sure the peppers are roasted and cleaned properly. I ordered our bushel roasted with whole cloves of garlic. I have bought from other local by the side of the road vendors.and they don't take the time nor effort. Sampled the roasted peppers. very tasty and roasted to perfection. read more

So I recently purchased a tree at Malara gardens. I have to say that the top of the tree didn't look too good but the lady said it was just some dry leaves. We followed her instructions for planting it. I'm all about supporting locals but the next day I found out that the same tree was sold for less than half of he price at home depot. Fine, it's for a good cause. Well, the tree died after less than a month. I called a guy -the expert on trees at Malara- and he said that I didn't plant it correctly. ( And I followed their instructions). In the meantime I did some research and it seemed that I bought the tree with some sort of disease. I went back and I asked if Malara gardens could do something for me since I had flushed 120$. They said no. They didn't offer anything. Again, I like to support the locals but Home Depot guarantees the tree for a whole year. And these people couldn't even offer me a discount on my next purchase. Shame on them. I'll never go back. read more
