The staff is so helpful with suggestions and recommendations. They are also available after your purchase to facetime you if you are having any issues with your little newbie plants. There were so many options it was hard to decide and did I say, the prices are beyond reasonable ... The green house is so fun to wander around...I had a hard time picking just one...Oh yeah, don't forget to meet the talking birds. My first purchase was 3 planters to hold my selections. A beautiful purple ceramic and 2 new planters for my outdoor plants next year. The purple beauty went perfectly with my new plant.... see the picture. She seems happy in her new home too. If you need a new plant to feed your sole.... head to Little Eden and I'm sure you will find the perfect fit.

In the past, during the winter they've even had 50% off of everything awesome! I've gotten a few plants from them that have thrived. If you can definitely try to make it out there to Little Eden!

I wanted to add some interest so that I wouldn't have just rock everywhere, but this south side of the house has no drip line. Perhaps some cacti and other southwestern plants would be appropriate? I made my way down to the local nursery and found this cute potato cactus. Rather than the typical plastic stick with planting instructions, the plastic stick found in the little plant casing said www.coldhardycactus.com. I went to this website to see how to plant and care for this cutie, and lo and behold--an entire cactus website run out of a location right down the road in Lakewood, Colorado! They sell quite a variety of cacti, yucca, agave, all the southwestern plants you might find in a desert environment, carefully studied and developed to be cold hardy for Colorado. I promptly scheduled an in-person tour of the plants, which you can do online. When I arrived, Kelly, a horticulturalist, showed me around the yard and greenhouses and told me about all the plants that he grows. He knows absolutely everything about them, and loves to convey his knowledge about their origination, hybridizations, and ability to withstand our environs in planting zones 4, 5, 6, etc. My house resides in zone 5. Based on Kelly's guidance and my own taste in plants, I walked away with a combination of cacti and succulents; from your traditional spiny cacti to beautiful flowering gentle varieties with smoother paddles. With my brown thumb, and the little 1.5-2" pots, I was wary about their outcome. However, you can see below the pictures that I took in May, 2025. They survived beautifully, and in fact are thriving! I have to admit that the succulents did not make it through the winter. I suspect I did not provide enough water for them after planting, or maybe the site just isn't right, but I couldn't be more happy and proud of the many cacti that are happy in my yard. In one year, some have at least doubled in size! I recently paid Kelly another visit this fall, and purchased some yuccas and agaves this time to fill in some holes in my landscape. I have some pictures below of these babies. I'm excited about the prospect of a southwestern cactus garden in my south yard! If you have want to add a little bit of interest to your yard with an unusual touch, or even just want to create an indoor cactus/succulent arrangement, I highly highly recommend visiting ColdHardyCactus.com. If you live in the Denver metro area you can pick them up from Kelly, but he also ships them anywhere.

The sizes- from compact to huge. The colors- non-blooming to show-stoppers. The knowledge- zones, growth, care. The prices- incredibly affordable for such rarity! I live in Austin, TX which is nearly perfect for all types of cacti, but we do experience the occasional freeze (like this week ), but these cacti are one less worry I have when protecting all my cold-tender plants. I planted my selections around November and they had plenty of time to root since we stay pretty warm until January. Excited to see what the spring holds for new growth and I'll certainly be adding to my in-ground collections!

The plants don't look their best in the spring because they are dormant. So a beginner would likely dismiss these as dead plants for sale. But long-time Rocky Mountain gardeners know these dry-looking tufts will wake up and grow into healthy plants by late spring or early summer. I've bought many of my starter native plants here and they have matured and multiplied through the years. However, beginners can get lots of help and advice from staff. You need to overcome the expectation of wanting lush, green seedlings to take home. These plants are priced higher than those in big box stores, but they are worth it. They have been acclimated to the local conditions, outside of cozy greenhouses with built in sprinklers. They will settle well in your Rocky Mountain backyard.

When we came in, there were about 3-6 kids, which is nice because I had my kids with me, too. Novacek's has a lot of flowers, which you can see from the outside looking in. Inside, they have a ton of tomatoes, peppers, and other veggies. Their hanging plants look nice and well priced. I don't know how many employees they have, but I don't think they have a lot. If you were to need help here, you'd be better off seeking someone out rather than waiting for someone to ask you. The rows between the shelves are mostly small, with one or two rows in the middle which are fairly large. They sell mostly plants with a few seed displays. As far as I could tell, they don't sell too many other things. I didn't get a chance to visit the far end or the back, so I could be wrong. In all, I liked what they have to offer, and I will be back again soon.

In my opinion, the prices are very fair and at times, we're better than the big box stores. They also had vegetables and BIG sized peppers and tomatoes for a steal of a deal. They had great customer service and were very polite at every interaction I had. As of May 2024, their hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm open everyday!
