Malacca Corner is all the things you dream of in a cheap Malaysian eatery. Bright fluro lights, plastic plates and menu items written in magic marker on coloured paper, blue-tacked around the walls. Pressed in glass and hung all over the room are photos of the dishes taken with a dark digital camera, and printed out little explanations of each dish. And of course, everything is crazily cheap and delicious.
One of my favourite things to get here are the vegetarian spring rolls. I know that sounds boring as all hell - but these spring rolls are different. They aren't deep-fried, they are fresh. Crunchy bean sprouts, fresh basil, carrot, cabbage and a light peanut sauce held together in a thin crepe like wrapper. Delicious. They do all the standard dishes well - Singapore Noodles, Haianese Chicken, Kway Teow, Chilli Chicken and Beef Rendang. Apparently their laksa is one of the better ones in town too. Malacca also do a few more unusual things - Kapitan (or captain) Chicken, an authentic boneless Malaysian chicken stew.
