We needed 3 bedroom ceiling fans replaced, a vent cover reattached and the new installation of a bathroom ceiling light fixture. In replacing one of the ceiling fans, Matt discovered that the original fan had been hung without the appropriate bracing -- so he went out, got the bracing and hung it right! Likewise, on the install of the light fixture, the new fixture 'kit' didn't come with a ceiling plate, so Matt, once again, headed out to get the missing elements to make sure the install was done properly. He also returned twice to ensure the drywall repair in the bathroom was perfect. He does this work on the side so you need to be flexible about scheduling.

Again more problems. Based upon his recommendation I purchased a new door. When he hung the door, I pointed out the latch looked troublesome he gave no response. That winter there was forceful winds and the door nearly came off the frame. Lucky for me my neighbors secured the door with bricks to keep it closed. When I returned, Marcus responded to my call and looked at the door, which was bad, he said he will check with Home Depot see if there is a warranty on the door. I checked myself and there was a warranty on the door. Needless to say I never heard from Marcus again. I do not recommend Marcus for any jobs.

He was receptive to all questions, indicated what they would cover in the quote along with screen removal, downspout removal, reinstall for both, deck prep, and staining with 2 coats. Their quote was not the lowest, but was in the middle. The real reasons I chose them was because I liked them when they came out for the in-person quote/estimate, and their truck appeared to be maintained (that's a big signal for me about care of work). On days of work, couldn't have been more pleased. Amazing job on deck prep, screen removal (labelled with tape), care of ladders, deck washing. They came in the next day to stain, and were wonderful about getting a quality job completed. I will use them again.

My experience with Handyman Kai was horrible. He turned a simple drywall job into a three-day…read morenightmare that was left incomplete. He was tasked with detecting the source of a leak and doing a drywall repair and paint job. He did a good job finding where the leak was, but everything went downhill from there. The problem began when he was dishonest about several things. He said he had someone to fix the leak because he "didn't do heights", but that person never materialized. Handyman Kai tried to fix that part himself. Then, he claimed I bought the wrong drywall product, but he said it was still "ok". But he kept using that as an excuse for why the project was not progressing as planned instead of recognizing he was in over his head. Next, he initially underpriced the job and later wanted more money. I wanted to pay him what was fair because I valued his time. I was very polite to him under extremely annoying circumstances that he created. He did not have a ladder or a blow-dryer/fan to do the project on time. So, we had to wait for the mud to dry naturally. This took hours/days of unnecessary extra time. The area he was patching was approximately 28 by 20. It was not a large area at all. He was clearly disgruntled, and it appeared to affect his mood. He asked me for half of the balance on the second day. I paid him considerably more than half. That left me with a minimal balance to pay him. Then he did the unthinkable. He requested someone else to complete the job on FB for $75 (he has since deleted the post). I still gave him the benefit of the doubt in an effort to allow him to finish a job that was a mess to begin with. Painter's tape was exposed, and cracks were seen throughout the job. I offered him more money than I owed to motivate him to finish the project. After our in-person conversation, where we agreed on the amount, he cancelled the job by text after he left. Now, I have an unfinished ceiling, and I have to pay someone else to come out and redo the job. So, he claims he made no money on the job because he had to pay this imaginary person who did not exist. Yet, he offers to give me a partial refund in a week. Does that make any sense at all? He makes things up as he goes along. Handyman Kai demonstrated a lack of integrity, and I did not appreciate the double-talk I received from him. Good luck if you choose him for a project.
