After many extension consultations, I came to Dana and her cute little salon as my last stop. Other salons were either just not willing to make this a great experience for me, or definitely quoted too many extra services and pricing. After the initial extensions were put in, the stylist's first words were: "Oops, it's a little crooked. If you don't mind it, just try and pull some hair to cover the bald spot." Wait...WHUT?!? You know you screwed up but you want me to be okay with it? Extensions are $$$ & I had saved money so I could do cover my pixie cut as it was growing out. I left the salon because she said she couldn't do anything more that day. Can I tell you, having 6+" of the right side of my shaved head bare because the stylist misjudged where she placed the extensions is not a good look! I texted her within a few hours begging her to fix it and she was very upset that she was going to have to come in the next day on her day off because I was upset. Again, wtf? You goofed and now you're mad because you have to fix it? I was surprised she would want anyone to see her work looking like a disaster. After all, that is for calling card. I let her know I wasn't mad, but I had to beg her to fix it. When I went in the next day, she was frustrated and said she was just going to take them out. She wasn't willing to fix it. I paid how much to install these and she was going to take them out and not bother to fix the problem? Luckily the owner of the salon offered some of her extra tape in extensions. She saw the problem and while trying not to interfere, she offered a solution. That is when I decided to search for a new stylist. Dana responded quickly to my online request. When I arrived at her cute little salon, there was another consult ahead of me. I was listening to Dana discuss that person's needs and she was so professional, super knowledgeable, and accommodating! It immediately put me at ease and in a positive and hopeful mind frame that my situation could be fixed by Dana. As previous stylists pointed out, Dana noted my extensions were a bit messy but she definitely could fix it and make the whole hairstyle look fuller, more normal than it did, and for a fraction of what many other stylists were charging. Dana was not the most expensive, but neither was her quote the least expensive, but right in the middle, but her customer service, level of knowledge, and warm and friendly demeanor puts her way over the top of all the other salons I've been to. Trust me, that was over six salons! Then, the best news was that she could do my hair right there and then! I was the last appointment she had booked and she and her new stylist, Nikki, had time. I was over the moon! I did not have to put up with my funky, mullet looking hair another day. She took apart what I had already installed and added a few more tape ins and my hair looks natural, like it's my own, super cute now, and full volume! Not just a string of hair attached to my head. I am no longer self-conscious about my beads showing and having a thin set of extensions. I cried from sheer Joy as this was how it was supposed to be when I first thought about having extensions. Dana brought my vision to life and it was no more expensive than my first set! In my career, I have high visibility working with donors and large events and I always need to look professional. I'm not shy about telling people I have extensions especially when I have a pixie one day, and 24 hours later I have chin length hair LOL Another awesome addition to this story is Dana also does color so it is going to be a One-Stop shop for me! I know I know, this is a super long review and I edited it down already! But it is important to know I did do my due diligence and research and Dana was by far the most knowledgeable, down to earth, professional, most experienced stylist that I met with. I also referred her to my other stylists up in LA, Hawaii, and Washington for when they have clients who move to Orange County. Dana and Nikki are amazing! I'm embarrassed but I believe I told them I loved them at least five or six times. If you are in the market for new extensions or just maintenance, I honestly say to come straight to Dana and don't bother meeting with all the other salons in the Long Beach area. I've done all the leg work for you! PS if you have never had extensions done, absolutely come to Dana. She listens to what you want, tells you what she can do, and offers so many ideas, suggestions, and solutions. She also knows the best type of extensions for your needs. However, do your research. Extensions are not cheap. Yes, it's like a car payment or half your rent for a month LOL. My photos only show the result of what Dana did. It was too embarrassing to take photos of my before look!

Luckily there was a novice stylist who was just starting to take clients who could fit me in. The salon is very elegant and stylish. A place they would offer you a glass of wine or champagne. (they didn't) The stylist did a great job. I just haven't been back because I'm too cheap to spend that kind of money on a regular basis. Supercuts is more my speed these days.

Now I'm not the customer at this shop, but I am the customer of the shopper of this shop ....that depends on good product for thier livelihood. I'm the one buying the product secondhand. I have had hair extensions, in my hair, for over a year and a half and have learned exactly how to take care of my Extentions. My Hair Dresser and I decided to replace them with new ones so they would look dramatically new and healthy, not because they were ratty or a mess or didn't have life left in them. So I did. Six weeks later, the brand new hair extension,of the same brand, were definitely faulty in color and for some reason!seem to rat up a bit. The color went from Brown to Orange. DID NOT use different product on them. But guess who the Manager at this business blamed? Me.!!!!!!!!! After a year and a half of proving my complete dedication to keeping these hair extensions perfect, " I " all of a sudden don't know how to care of my product. My Hair Dresser wanted an exchange and got denied. Then she requested how about 50% off of a new set and she got denied. What kind of Customer Service is this place? My Hair Dresser doesn't rip me off on selling me these hair extensions or double her money.... She charges me her cost of the hair extensions. She doesn't have anything to gain in this process. She knows, if she keeps me happy, I'll keep coming back to her. But I guess this business doesn't have the same work ethic that my Hair Dresser does. I am so mad for her and disappointed that this company doesn't even allow exchanges or refunds for a bad product... I guess they just think their customers are liars. What a disappointing and disgusting response to a customer that spends thousands of dollars in their shop. After investigation, I see that there are many people that complain about this companies customer service. Shameful. I guess they really don't care what anybody thinks of them.

Shop is run by some former beach 'babe' wanna be who has had one too many burritos of late, and her son who thinks he's apparently cool but nothing short of an absolute goon who rambled on about being anti corporate america but drives a posh bmw... Susie, the owner, brings her little dog along, and has trained this poor thing to keep quiet so it just sits there looking sad all day. Asked her did she take him to the famous dog beach. poor thing doesnt even get that. Her assistant, whose name I didnt get, looks like something out of a zombie film, who is 'out of it' and who, just coming near me, made me nervous, given she had sharp things in her hands but didnt seem to know what day it was. She had no idea what I had come in for and had started to set it up for some entirely different procedure... Rather uncomfortable the way Susie spoke to her, though probably warranted, but treated her as if she was completely stupid which doesnt do much for customer confidence. I popped into this shop to get one of my wefted hair extensions which had dreadlocked (not done by this shop), removed given I live abroad and was out visiting and saw this salon during a street fair, and this dreadlocked tangle was driving me mad. She charged me 25 dollars to remove one weft, which would have been ok, however, given the fact she still charged this even though I decided to book new kerotin extensions with her for 650 dollars - well, a bit tacky, really, innit (i would have comped the ten minute fix given the business for the new extensions which I paid 150 deposit for, it were me). Anyway, she put the extensions in, and not only do they not match my hair as the old ones did (they are too dark - is she blind? - don't ask me if they are right babe, you ought to know...), but after just over a week one has already come out and I have done nothing that would make it my fault, following her instructions on after care. Also, the hair looks great when she first puts it in, but it must just be some gloss because once you wash it, it looks crap. She uses cheap hair, and I heard her on the phone, she only pays 20 bucks for hair donations, then charges 650 and more for extensions. what a profit, but then youve got the huntington beach overheard, and her posh car, and her son's posh car, to pay for, havent you. And it wasnt until I left the salon that I realised she hadnt put extensions on the front part of my hair, where they were before, which also angered me, but I had no time to return to get it put right. Again though, she ought to have done it properly in the first place but the whole thing seemed a shoddy, rushed job even though I paid big bucks for it... Further to that she made racist remarks, which is fair enough, but not in a salon with a total stranger... i realiase its HB which is chock full of skinheads but crikey i dont want to talk about that sort of s**t in the salon chair, do you? For the 650 I paid, I was barely offered a cup of tea, which they dont even have in the shop but she sends the zombie out to fetch from starbucks which is brought back cold. Sadly, this is about what I expected from this town. I will be pursuing a partial refund from Susie for the fact that my hair is falling out after just one week. Avoid this shop. Staff arent happy, either, and it shows. read more

Cory is my girl. I live in Huntington Beach, but work in the film business in LA., so I'm used to paying crazy prices in snobby salons for cuts I wasn't always happy with. Also, appointments and I don't always get along, so it was only a matter of time before I was caught with an important meeting, no LA hair appointment and looking terribly scruffy. Taking a gamble I stepped into Makin' Waves Salon and sat in Cory's chair. I remember her smiling at me, this lunatic, as I barked exact orders at her...expecting the worst, she delivered me the PERFECT CUT -- and mind-blowing scalp and neck message. She even tugged on my ears, who knew that would feel so good! If that's considered cheating on my wife...I don't care! Seriously, Cory delivers consistently great cuts, puts up with my "I need an appointment now" attitude, and pampers. read more

The cut is great, the conversation is great (the guy has been in Southern California for EVER and knows pretty much every underground place that is, was, or will be). I had my hair done with other stylists before and thought it came out great, but what I didn't know was that my hair looked great because of the toning, not because of the actual work itself.... Side note: you can hide terrible hair jobs with toning. I had multiple colors on my hair that Nicole had to fix, and she also went slow and steady on my hair. Because Nicoloe cares about the integrity of your hair, she will refuse to go fast and harsh, this breaks your hair people!!! She kept my silver Ash hair that I had at my ends and balyage and matched the heck out of my hair. When they say you get what you spend... It's so true!!! And she's WORTH every... Single.. dime!!! I found this amazing deal on Groupon that offered a hair wash, hair cut, and styling from Nancy who works at Franco Hernanez Hair. It was such a great deal, and after talking to her on the phone I booked an appointment. I had to schedule an appointment with Nancy roughly 2-3 weeks in advance (she's a busy bee!). --LOCATION-- Franco Hernandez is located inside Phenix Salons with their own suite (#107). It's a very small salon with just enough space for 2 clients at a time. They have a small bench that my mom was able to sit while I got my hair done. --EXPERIENCE-- Nancy is such a sweet girl. I learned that she (and Franco, who was working with another client) used to work at Ulta, too. I gave Nancy a lot of liberty with my hair, giving her some specifications but ultimately a lot of freedom. In the end, I got a great haircut out of it. She even taught me how to use shears. To be honest, I liked my hair when it was done but it took a while longer for me to really, really like my hair since it's not as abundant as I'd hope. But, I trusted Nancy and it definitely is a good haircut (I just have super straight and relatively thin hair). She knows hair! Nancy also styled it by "waving" it out. She used a thick curling iron to achieve this. --PRODUCTS-- The salon is stacked full of RedKen products. I'm not sure if she only used RedKen on me, but my hair came out really soft and feels a lot healthier. Nancy and Franco does everything from styling to dying to haircuts. While I was getting my haircut, I saw Franco finishing up a client's hair. She had dyed her hair a spectacular hue of pinks and purples, among other colors. It was vibrant and definitely a statement. Franco and Nancy do a great job. I wish I asked what their normal rates are; I'd be interested in returning to them again in the future.
