Just when you think it's time to give up on good sushi you wander down a back alley in Shoreditch and hey - there you go, all your hopes and dreams are finally fulfilled!
Well maybe that's a fib - there are quite a few good sushi places in London - but the good ones are rare and do need calling out!
Maki is a relatively knew sushi shop just a stone throw from Old Street tube station. Expect yummy fat sushi maki roll slices, two for £1.99 and most other pieces (sashimi, nigari) for 99p per piece.
We ordered a selection of maki pieces and Vegetable Miso soup.
The maki was absolutely amazing, great quality ingredients, made well, tasted fantastic! Each a wonderful chunky bite with a good flavour.
However the Miso soup was the highlight, it's by far the best I have ever had. Thick mushrooms, tofu chuck and seaweed, this soup was bursting with ingredients. Worth writing home about... and a steal at £2.50.
For a meal it was on the reasonable side, but very cheap for sushi.
My only concern was that the boxes really didn't feel biodegradable. They were beautiful, bright and well made, but seemed a little OTT for a one use carrier. We brought inside and eat outside, so it would have been nice to be offered a more environmental option. read more
