My retired ladies four-some golf here weekly...our favorite day of the week. It was a very hot and dry summer and the course has always been maintained. For the first time ever I golfed at Bensalem and found the numerous trees to be annoying there. Makefield has zero trees. Lots of sand traps however. Many of the sand traps have small amounts of sand...makes it easier to get the ball out. In fact I use an iron or even rescue club to get out of the bunkers. A few of the ponds have gotten my balls...it happens. Staff is always friendly and accomodating. After golf we enjoy the club house with indoor and outdoor deck seating. However, they raised their prices of alcohol and food...rediculous! $15 for small vodka martini. Totally outrageous for what is served. Bummer. Reservations are a must as it is a popular local course. I had my best game ever today! read more

Flagrant mismanagement of the golfers. We had to wait 20 mins per hole and walked off at hole 7. Starter was non-existent and should have approached 2 father's with their 10 year old sons and had them skip a few holes as there were 3 empty holes ahead of them and the dad's were giving their sons lessons while the entire course was backed up. A waste of time and money. The conditions were bad. Inconsiderate golfers do not replace their divots or the indentations on the greens. Bad scene here. Go elsewhere. read more

This is fantastic public golf. I've been hearing about this course for a few years now but haven't been able to make the trek over... But today was the day! And what a day it was! Here's the short version... I honestly didn't play that well and I still really liked the course! The design elements in it are superb. The clubhouse is more than adequate. Saw the snack cart plenty of times during the round. The course was in perfectly fine shape. There were a few brown spots of grass here and there but it wasn't the biggest deal. The greens rolled true. The course was interesting and fun. The price was right for courses of this caliber. It was a great round and I highly suggest checking this course out. The course - washed out bunkers - tee boxes that look like it late August not the beginning of June - fairways with different colors of grass. Apparently they put the absolute most golfers on the. Purse to maximize profits - where do the profits go? Who's running this place. Maybe start with replacing that company. read more

I booked my tee time on Golf Now. Aside from little guidance, check in was seamless. I played as single and was paired with a father-son-friend threesome for my 2:00 pm tee time. The only other time I played this course was about 15 years ago during a frat brothers alumni gathering. The course is generally open. The course challenges are the sand traps and putting greens. I see from many recent posts the course airated the greens late (about a month ago). This move paid off as the greens were in very good shape. In fact the entire course was in very good shape. Our 18 hole round of golf was completed in 4 hours which by my standards is very good for a weekend round! I definitely recommend this course and I will certainly be back (hopefully sooner rather than 15 years later!). read more

Friday afternoon golf was great! The greens are still bumpy and slow from last week's aeration but by next week they should be perfect. Pace of play was nice until the usual slowdown at 13. Having comfort stations available and the beverage cart are refreshing! The musical duo under the tent was perfect to round out the day. I play this course regularly and I wanted to make some suggestions. Please get the sand traps playable. The some traps are in terrible shape most have a course brown sand which is very compacted with rocks and pebbles. Several times now we have had issues with golf carts.. one dying on us and had to be sent another from clubhouse and another was squeaking so bad sounded like a broken down jalopy. Bad breaks can also be an issue. Whats with the food??? Loved the huge soft Bavarian pretzel only to be replaced with grilled Octopus???? Come on the course is fun and could be a real jewel lets fix the issues!! read more

Despite the horrible weather we had this summer this course is even in worse condition than expected. Given the cost to play I expected much better conditions. Greens were in poor condition and clearly the cause was poor groundskeeper work. In addition some of the issue has to do with golfers not repairing divots and ball marks. Fairways were all so so since clumps of grass clippings littered most fairways. The carts alsohad no seed to repair divots. Not sure what is happening but clearly this course is in need of stepped up care. I have many other options to play golf at a lower cost with significantly better conditions in general vicinity. Lastly what is up with having political signage on driving range! read more

Just fuming.... The starter pulls me off the first hole (I've already teed off), says the pro shop states I didn't pay.... Essentially saying in stealing. I show the starter my receipt and he gets the pro shop on walkie talkie. Don't know the woman's name, but she makes me come off the course to the pro shop to discuss (a bit embarrassing... just a bit). Ruins my round. I show her my receipt. She doesn't apologize. She offers to get me out again, but my round is ruined already. I told her she should credit me a free round for another time and the ball I left on the course. All she does is credits me a refund for today and gives me a monogrammed pinnacle (pos ball) and wishes me a Merry Christmas (sarcastically.... But I was giving her a bit of attitude). Really shitty customer service. Unfortunately this is the best public course around and I've played here a few times in 2023 and it's been an exceptional experience up until now. It will be awhile before I can come back here sadly. read more

I am a regular Highlamds golfer since 2005. The course has never been in worse shape. The greens are horrible. Huge pock marks everywhere. The last two times I played they we're not mowed. I might need to move to another course. For the money I would play elsewhere at this time. read more

Course was in overall good condition but starting to show brown spots due to lack of rain. One suggestion......it's time to remove the foam cup liners. Several liners are too high and difficult to tell if putts were good or not. Other area courses have removed completely. read more

A fun and challenging course, especially for a public facility. Reminds of the wild rough and smallish greens of the British Open courses like St. Andrews in Scotland. Apres golf in the cozy clubhouse is also a pleasure with a small bar and room for a small dinner party. Also can't complain that it is the club nearest home. read more

Returned after not playing for most of the summer because of the earlier experiences, but I was pleased to see the course was more what I remembered from previous summers. I'm still baffled that the course was in better shape in November than it was in June/July. The staff was great from start to finish. The play was very fast. Greens rolled true (although this course attracts more inconsiderate people who have no sense of repairing ball marks on greens than I've ever seen elsewhere). Not to mentioned the reduced offseason rates make this the best bargain for quality in the area. read more

Had an unusual situation yesterday, the foursome I play with were notified at the last minute that the course we were going to play was too wet and we would not be able to play. I called and went over to Makefield Highlands and explained our situation, there were GREAT and accommodated us. to start, bathrooms were not very clean. the toilet paper rolls were on the ground. i was there for a cross country banquet for my sister, but the room was very small. The people at the bar were just socializing with other people, but when I came to get a drink they got it for me. The food was excellent. I especially liked the chicken and the Caesar salad. There was plenty to choose from such as salad, chicken, steak, rolls, baked ziti, fruit, and rolls. The food was warm and perfectly done. some of the employees were not doing the correct jobs but overall i had a pleasant experience. read more

Only live about 5 miles from the course so it's very convenient. Got off on time. Starter was helpful. Course was in great shape considering the wet conditions we've had. Course get a lot of play so the greens are a little rough. Made several long putts so there're not in that bad a shape. Great track. Interesting. Some risk reward holes. The Makefield Highlands golf course is a diverse pair of well maintained 9s. The greens are large, undulating, & consistent, but slow. Teed-off early afternoon on Saturday. $80 w/cart. The course was not over-watered. The roughs were thin, & supported prompt ball location & par opportunities. The sole beverage cart operator was aloof & elsewhere. Our two-4some-bachelor-party enjoyed the course, but contained novices & struggled to finish the 8th hole by the 2-hour mark. The ranger informed us that the foursome behind us wasn't stopping at the turn & would play through. We apologized for not keeping pace & agreed, then waited & followed that 4some off 10 tee. When that group was not even at the 11th tee, and we had hit 2 out of 4 approach shots on 10, we were again hassled by the rangers. One ranger suggested we play a scramble that hole & next. A scramble. We said OK, but didn't, and finished at the 4:45 mark. I'm not sure who was right but that's what happened. read more

Course is in very good shape. I've always enjoyed the links style layout and the variety of holes. A few short par 4's are mixed in with some longer holes. There are a couple of reachable par 5's along with more likely 3 shot holes. By and large you will hit every club in your bag. The customer service is very good and the food is great. All in all Makefield Highlands is a very nice course and an enjoyable place to play. read more

The course is in good shape, but the staff here are awful. On my most recent visit they booked our tee time behind a child's golf tournament. They didn't tell us ahead of time. We had to quit after 3 holes. We were given a rain check but no refund. The golf pro was rude and unapologetic and defensive even though there was no way he could be in the right... They'll do anything to get your money. I would recommend taking your game to a course that appreciates its patrons. read more

If you like crab grass, play here. $80.00 for beat up greens and crab grass taking over the whole course is a joke. It also seems like the staff doesn't care. The range ball dispenser was not working properly. You think someone would try to fix it or at least try to get some balls for their customers to use? Also, teed off at 8am on holiday Monday and none of the tee markers were in place. I am really disappointed with this place. read more

I can't believe the reviews I just read for this course. Some of the low ratings must be by people who's home course is either Pine Valley or Augusta National. While it is higher priced than other area courses it is because it is simply a better course. Course conditions are always great. The guy that said there is crabgrass everywhere must have been hallucinating from smoking some other kind of grass. Try this course and judge for yourself. My one complaint is that with such a great practice facility they should have grass tees on driving range. read more

Played course today first time in a while and was surprised as to the condition of some of the bunkers. Some bunkers were not being taken care of - rock side wall was exposed, not enough sand in traps and sand the cheap variety. for the price they are charging that should not be an issue.... read more

I have to agree with Jim and Nicholas. The staff on the golf course side make you feel as though they are doing you a favor. I have had my round interrupted asking me for a receipt multiple times. I brought my 10 year old daughter to play a few holes in twilight and was told she had to have a collared shirt. The next week I saw two middle aged women with jeans on. Their app is a mess. I booked an early bird back nine and it booked off the front at a rate that nobody understood. They agued with me and would not let me go off the front until I showed them my confirmation. I then decided to play 18, and was going to pay the balance upon completion. They sent a employee to get my card on the 12th hole. Infuriating. They remind you of how many rounds they have played there every year. I for one will not go back. I hope others post their experiences. Go to mountainside, Northhampton, Heron Glenn, the bucks club, mercer oaks or Middletown. They'll appreciate your dollars and you'll spend less of them. read more

A solid layout, but the staff are the most arrogant collection of people i have yet encountered on a golf course (which is rather remarkable). I've gone several times and have had bad experiences each time. It's sad because this a great course, but everyone from the starter, to the pro shop, to the rangers need a serious attitude adjustment before I ever return. read more

Very well run and well kept faciltiy. It almost has the feel of a private it club with a greeter at the bag drop and a serious ranger who makes sure players keep to the pace of play. Well laid out and feels like a links course. The greens are in decent shape given the amount of play by weekend warriors who don't know about repairing ball marks. We had a funeral luncheon at the restaurant this past week. The food and drink were fantastic and the staff could not have been more accommodating, helpful, and just all around wonderful. They made what was a very hard day just that much easier. read more
