They replaced 171 linear feet of "falling apart fence" for our HOA. My request for quotes went out just before the Polar Vortex struck! It's all in the timing :) Almost a month went by before we could seriously look over the proposals. Make Me Construction was right in line price wise with the others, their warranty was a bit better, and they offered a few items including in their quote that the others did not. They did an excellent job on the replacement, and all done in one day - from tear down to finish. Professional all the way. We are keeping them on our list as a vendor for more work in the future. Let me start by saying that this is a long overdue review - but I wanted to wait few months to see how would my fence bear against the weather :) After deciding to replace the old 6 ft tall side by side fence it was hard to get a timely quote that was reasonable cost-wise for new cedar 8 ft tall board on board fence. Sean from Make Me Construction (or Make Me a Fence) was fairly responsive and was able to provide quote and reasonably negotiate to get the best possible price while meeting my design requirements. The first scheduled installation day was postponed due to rain (I remember being nervous about the delays at that time, but it was worth the wait). The overall installation along with tear of the old fence was only two days long. During the installation I got some design recommendations from the installers about the arched gate and I love how it turned out. Overall great job by Sean and his crew! I had a very bad experience with this company. They installed a $13,000. fence around my small backyard in Watauga. There was a tree in my neighbor's yard prior to installation that ended up in my yard after installation! This was a significant sized tree, 6-7 inches at base. (see attached photos) They did not stop and inform me that a tree was in the way. Apparently, when they flipped the fence so that the smooth side would face out, the tree was in the way, so they moved the fence over into my neighbor's yard in order to allow for the tree. I do not know how far over the fence is from the property line and tried to work out a solution with them to figure it out, such as getting an updated survey, which was recommended by the city inspector. Sean Holland, the owner, along with his team, would not take any responsibility or offer any solutions. Sean bullied and threatened me. (I am a single grandmother and I saved for 9 years to get this fence.) They did not obtain a permit until after the job was finished, at which time I told them I would be reaching out to the city to see if they could offer advice regarding determining the property lines. While I was on the phone with the city, I was informed that they had just come in and obtained the permit (after the project was finished). The fence was completed on Friday and today is Wednesday, May 4th. I communicated to Sean Holland this morning that I would be trying to obtain a lower quote for a survey and I would get back to him by the end of the day. Sean responded with a lien on my home and threatened daily late fees. Keep in mind that this is only the 3rd business day after the project completion. I have reached out to other contractors regarding proper protocol for situations like this when a tree is on the fence line. Of course, they all state that the fence company should have stopped installation and asked the homeowner for guidance. The fence company should not make decisions as far as moving a fence so that a tree changes from one property to the other. I also inquired about placing liens on client's properties and was told that this should be a complete last resort and only if the customer had stopped communicating with the company altogether. As long as the customer is communicating and trying to work out a solution, this would not be considered. Note: I did pay the final payment on the 3rd day as these threats were too distressing for me. The city and several others encouraged me to hire an attorney but I need to protect my mental health and move on. Sean Holland with Make Me Construction seems to be purely and selfishly focused on getting in and out in 3 days without regard for the paying customer. There is no evidence of customer service. They operate without integrity and display deceptiveness. There are several bad reviews on Google and BBB. Consider yourself warned. I wish I had looked up their reviews. Please go with a different fence company. *Also, I will be conducting a tree guy to take down my new tree as my new $13000. fence was installed right on top of the tree root. A portion of our backyard had a fence that was previously installed by Make Me Construction. Nevertheless, we sought quotes from 3 other companies and chose Make Me due to a fair price and evidence of their workmanship. The 2 installers worked extremely hard from sunrise to sunset digging holes in the rock hard caliche, cementing in the steel poles, attaching rails and pickets. They completed over 150 feet of fence in just a few days. We had one hiccup connecting an 8 foot fence and 6 foot fence on a hilly terrain. Make Me came up with a solution that resulted in a seamless, level fence line. We are very happy with our fence and highly recommend them. read more

If you want to work with a professional, honest, timely, responsive contractor and have a good experience with fence bidding/installation/repairs I SUGGEST NOT WORKING WITH Make Me A Fence. Though he seems friendly enough from the get-go, once the checks were handed over, the owner (and face of the company) suddenly developed an inability to return calls and, from my perspective, "flaked out" on several appointments without prior notification. The only successful trip occurred without calling ahead AND when I was out of town; therefore, the work wasn't done (Wouldn't you as the homeowner want to be present to be sure that all problems were resolved to your satisfaction?) Though the quality of the fence is great, Make Me A Fence has made it nearly impossible to have a WARRANTY-GUARANTEED fix performed on a considerable problem that developed within 30 days after installation... Nearly three months later the problem still persists. Warranty-related work should be done in a timely manner, shouldn't it? All in all, I've been made to feel that this man (and his company as an extension) is UNREACHABLE UNRELIABLE, & UNPROFESSIONAL. My opinion: STAY AWAY from Make Me A Fence! read more

Try to schedule for a week when you are flexible, they ran behind on the fence before mine so I had to move to another day. Make Me Construction built me a studio on my property. The permit took forever due to COVID (they kept us in the loop that entire time) but once approved, Make Me was on site to get it constructed. Very impressed with the sub contractors they use and their timeframe to get the job complete. The building inspectors that came for each process said Make Me used very high quality materials that they did not see often in projects. They continued each day and always had the inspectors set up to avoid delays. House looks amazing - and with all the rain we have had, it was easy to test that the construction quality is superb - no leaks, issues, etc. Hope to use them for other projects on the property - fence, driveway, etc. read more

Over the years I have worked with many home-improvement, construction companies. Make Me Construction is by far the best that I've ever worked with. We had a patio and chimney built onto our house. The quality and craftsmanship of their work was more than my wife and I expected. Jason, the project manager that we worked with; was unbelievably responsive and attentive to the details, as well as any small issues we had that came up. I found MakeMeAFence.com on Craigslist of all places! I was scanning the ads looking for some cedar pickets to begin the long and tedious process of replacing my existing fence panel by panel by myself. (I had done it myself 10 years earlier and it was due for replacement) On a whim, I sent an e-mail to the Craigslist ad requesting a quote to replace my fence. Within 2 hours Sean, the owner of MakeMeAFence, calls to make an appointment. That afternoon, Sean was at my house and gave me a rather reasonable quote for 166 feet of fence. (That was Wednesday, October 23, 2013) I also told him my neighbor would like a quote for their fence as well. Well, my neighbor and I both decided to go with MakeMeAFence and my fence was completed yesterday (November 01--The SAME day as it was started!). The crew arrived a little after 830 and the work began! They removed my old fence, dug and placed steel poles in concrete, installed the brackets and then built a new gate. After the gate was completed, the pickets went up along with a cedar trim board along the top. The fence looks incredible! After receiving three different estimates for an 8 ft., #1 western red cedar fence, we had chosen to use a local, well-known fence contractor. This contractor does not stain the fence, but we knew a staining contractor. He recommended that we get an estimate from his sub-contractor (Sean Holland). He forwarded the estimate to Mr. Holland to see if he would match our estimate. The estimate that was forwarded to Mr. Holland was for "132 ft. of 8 ft. cedar #1 Board-on-Board (1x4 and 1x2 trim), steel posts 3 ft. in the ground, 2 x 6 baseboards at the bottom, 1 walk gate (arched, window insert, corbels), tear out and haul off old fence for a cost of $5,544." On May 12, 2015, we received an estimate from MakeMeAFence.com for an "8 ft. tall western red cedar fence, 1x6x8 pickets, 2x4 cedar rails, 1x4 trim, 1x2 cedar trim, steel posts 3 ft. in the ground and 6 ft. apart, custom arched walk gate with metal decor insert and 2 corbels, tear down and dispose of fence for a cost of $5,105." Since Mr. Holland agreed to match the original estimate, we agreed to let him build the fence because he came in cheaper with his bid, and his website said there was a five year warranty - satisfaction guaranteed. We experienced delay after delay in starting the project. Contractor showed didn't show up when they were scheduled and showed up when they weren't expected. On June 23, 2015, the crew just showed up at our house unexpectedly to start tearing down the old fence. Mr. Holland showed up at our home and introduced himself to us. This was the first time that we had officially met him and or had any communication directly with him. All of our communication prior to this was made through the staining contractor. On Wednesday afternoon, June 24th, Mr. Holland called to say the fence was done and asked when I would be home so he could be paid. I told him I would be home later (early evening). He said he needed to get back to Arlington and asked if he could come by where I was working to pick up the check for payment. He said he really needed to get paid the money so he could do his next job. I contacted our contractor, and he said to just go ahead and pay Mr. Holland directly. I wrote him a check for $5,505. He said he did not have a receipt for me, but I told him that I had the canceled check. When I got home, I was so taken back with the over-all quality of construction of the fence. I spoke to Mr. Holland and told him we could not get the gate open without hitting or kicking the gate. They left nails sticking out on the inside of the fence. There were saw cuts in several of the pickets. Pickets were bowed and there were gaps between the pickets. There were many other issues. He commented that his crew had told someone here at the house that they were done and asked if it looked okay and they were told yes. I advised him that they were talking to a clueless sixteen year old that had no idea what was going on. Mr. Holland alleges that "this client was misinformed by another competitor fence company who told her #1 & #2 cedar pickets DO NOT have knots in them. We provided evidence supporting that they DO ACTUALLY have knot holes and only CLEAR Western Red Cedar has no holes, but is much more expensive. This was all explained verbally before we finalized the sale." This is absolutely, unequivocally not true. There was no contact with anyone other than the staining contractor until Mr. Holland showed up in our front yard and introduced himself to me on June 23rd. The competing contractor who Mr. Holland speaks of as "one of the fence companies who was initially bidding against us," was the contractor whose estimate he was supposed to match, and they never "said he did not use cedar pickets." They said that it was their opinion that the fence was not #1 or #2 grade cedar pickets. Grade #1 and grade #2 both can have knots, but they are limited in number and limited in size. The knots are supposed to be solid and tight. My information and understanding is based off all my research on the different types and grades of wood and the characteristics of the different grades of western red cedar before we ever started getting estimates. This fence did not appear to meet the standards for #1 (or #2) western red cedar, so I talked to at least a half a dozen contractors, three different fence supply companies, and numerous other individuals who said the pickets did not look like #1 or #2 quality. I called western red cedar wood manufacturers who set the industry standards for grading western red cedar. There is plenty of information available to anyone who is interested in educating themselves. On July 7, 2015, Mr. Holland told me via text message that he had used #2 grade cedar. I told him we thought he was matching the estimate we provided which was #1 grade cedar, to which he never responded. I informed him that there were many issues that needed to be addressed.
