Great exhibits. The museum is not huge but you learn a lot about the history and way of life of the Makah.

Really nice museum. My kids especially loved the replica longhouse. Worth the cost and a great chance to learn more about the Makah culture.

The staff was incredibly welcoming and open--one of the women working there took the time to chat with us, recommend places to eat, nature spots to check out, and even pointed out cool bugs to look for (which honestly made the whole experience feel very local in the best way). I ended up having such a great conversation with her--just genuinely kind and sweet energy. Also, if you're a magnet person... this place is dangerous. They have a really great selection--not just Twilight-themed, but also Port Angeles, La Push, Lake Crescent, and the surrounding areas. My family spent way too long deciding. It's one of those spots that feels less like a tourist stop and more like a reflection of the town itself. Definitely worth popping into while you're in Forks.

Pleasant enough over correspondence via email, I was excited when I first showed up. When I walked up, I was immediately confronted and I asked if I had called to book a tour in advance. I said no initially and when I tried to go on to explain that I emailed rather than called I was told that it was a private tour only and that they weren't open. I tried to explain again that I had emailed but before I could even finish, the tour guide dismissed me again explaining that there were no more available spots. I had to rather exasperatedly explain that I had in fact contacted the museum earlier for a tour and finally when I gave my name and it was indeed written on the clipboard I was permitted to stay (seemingly reluctantly). Mind you, this was in front of the entire group of tour members who were already present and this was extremely embarrassing and rather humiliating....honestly I don't know if I would recommend this place to my friends or family if this is the treatment they will receive. I am a diehard twilight fan and again this was one of the one things that I drove over 1600 miles to see, but this was simply not the experience I hoped it would be. Long story short, the poor attitude and lack of professionalism of the tour guide really took away from the entire experience and I hope that those in charge take note and address this. Twilight fans deserve better.

Forks was big into the timber industry in its early days before the industry declined. They are also known for their abundance of steelhead trout and salmon in nearby rivers. Forks is one of the rainiest towns in the U.S. It is located on Washington's Olympic Peninsula and has a population of around 3,000 people. When I arrived in Forks, I began to notice two big obsessions in this town - Sasquatch and Twilight. Forks hosts annual festivals dedicated to both of these things. I have never read or seen the Twilight movies, but the town of Forks happens to be the setting of the series. Even though the movies weren't filmed here, a number of locations in Forks were used in some scenes. As I drove around town, I started to see Twilight gift shops, signs and merchandise everywhere. The visitor center has Bella's truck and a gift shop that sells merchandise. I observed groups of fans that traveled to this town just to do self-guided tours of Twilight filming locations. I didn't realize those movies were such a big deal. Forks was close proximity to many of the stops that I did in Olympic National Park. The beaches near Forks like Rialto and La Push are just beautiful. There are a number of good places to eat here too. Sully's Drive-In was a popular hang-out spot. I also found a couple of coffee shops that I enjoyed. Forks is a small town that can be driven through in less than ten minutes. Everyone that I encountered in town were really nice.

In general, I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to come back but with kids who like small things, trains, dioramas, it was worth doing! I think we were in and out in about an hour. I bet some kids could zoom through in less time (then maybe not worth the price?) and some kids might take 1.5-2 hours, so maybe try to gauge if you think its something you/your family would enjoy. Some displays had buttons that didn't work but for the most part if you looked or read the placard you could figure out what was going on.

It was clear that a lot of time and talent went into many of the exhibits. That said, the experience felt a bit inconsistent. Some areas were much more engaging than others, and a few of the displays didn't have the same level of detail. At times, multiple audio narrations were playing at once, which made it difficult to focus and became a little overwhelming. We also noticed that several of the interactive buttons and TV displays weren't working during our visit. For $19, I don't regret stopping by, but it just wasn't quite what I was expecting. For me, it's more of a one-time attraction than somewhere I'd visit again. If you enjoy miniature art and displays, it may be worth checking out, but it ultimately wasn't the right fit for my interests.
